Anh Do is a comedian, artist and also one of the highest selling Australian authors of all time, with total book sales approaching 3 million.

Anh’s first book, The Happiest Refugee, is his enormously popular memoir recounting his perilous childhood journey in a tiny boat from war-torn Vietnam to Australia. The book became an instant hit and has won numerous awards including Australian Book of the Year.

Anh has since turned his attention to children’s book writing.

Weird Do is an illustrated series starring Weir (1st name), Do (2nd name), a kid with a very unfortunate name. Aimed at the 8+ market, these books have gone off the charts as national best-sellers, resulting in 14 books total and more on the way. The first Weir Do won the Australian Book Industry Award for Older Children (2014).

Other children's book series include Hotdog, the adventures of a sausage dog and also Ninja Kid, the escapades of a 10 year old Nerd who discovers he’s the world’s last ninja.

In 2019, Anh released Wolf Girl, a series about a little girl who gets lost in forest and befriends a group of dogs and an enormous Wolf who become her family. Then came Rise of the Mythix, which marks the first of a number of sagas described by Anh as ‘A superhero movie in a book’.

All of Anh Do’s books are mega bestsellers and all rate between 4-5 star averages on websites such as Goodreads and Amazon.

It’s clear that Anh is an exciting voice in literature, able to delight across age ranges and different genres with great success, and he isn’t planning to slow down any time soon.

In Sink or Swim the reader is immediately plunged into the drama as Wolf Girl and her canine friends are being chased by the Hornets.
They escape in a small boat and soon come across a village being destroyed by a landslide. Here Wolf Girl meets Jarrod, a local athlete, and he convinces her to compete in the Championship Games where the winner receives one wish. This is where Wolf Girl is presented with a moral dilemma with who she should free with her wish. Although this dilemma isn't played out in this book.

With simple writing and full page illustrations throughout this isn't a challenging read. The pace starts out fast but slows towards the end of the novel. This is a series that needs to be read from the start as there is no backstory. The baddies are evil and Wolf Girl's doggie friends are fearless and dedicated. I loved the banter between the dogs it added some fun humour to the story.

Extensively illustrated throughout with half and full page black and white sketches which add an extra element of comprehension to the story.

Sink or Swim ends on a cliff hanger that will have readers eager for more.

For a traditionally published book by a popular author there were way too many mistakes that should’ve been caught before being released. Just sayin.
Apart from that I really enjoyed this instalment in the series and I can’t wait for the next book.

Another action-packed instalment in the Wolf Girl series as Gwen and the Pack are making their getaway and find themselves caught up in the affairs of a remote fishing village in need of assistance. There's a surprisingly reveal at the end of the book that will leave fans of the series wanting the next book asap.

Gwen has been on a long journey, searching for her lost parents and sister. Accompanied by her pack of 4 dogs and one wolf in a large canoe, she is pursued by a chopper. A wild storm is about to break. The evil Braxans are hot on her trail. What should she do?
With no thought of giving up, Gwen and her buddies overcome disaster to continue down the wild river, ending up in the village of Hookville. There is much destruction from the storm, and Gwen seeks a place to hide. Unknown to Gwen, she will team up with young Jarrod, who is a local athlete. He is destined to compete in the championship games to be held upriver in Moon City. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their way?
This is an action-packed continuation of the Wolf Girl series. Readers of the previous books will be enthralled by Gwen’s bravery and determination as she, with her companion’s assistance, battle on. The cliff-hanger ending will leave readers aged 8-14 in anticipation of the next book in the series.

My daughter has been reading this series for a while now and she suggested that I give them a try. I found them to be highly entertaining with a lot of fast paced action. A very enjoyable series so far, I look forward to what happens next.
