The exciting New Inductive Study Series (more than 880,000 copies sold) was created by Kay Arthur for people who long to immerse themselves in God's Word but need a 15-minutes-a-day resource to match their busy lifestyles. This exciting study focuses on Zecharaiah, Malachi, and Haggai, three prophets who shared God's messages of instruction and discipline and also words of encouragement and hope. Exploring these books of the Bible provides an insightful study of God's communication, character, and blessings. Using Kay Arthur's inductive study method, the truths of these Old Testament books inspire readers to hear God's message, become obedient, and share in the living hope of a Father who clearly conveys the promise of great blessings.
Kay Lee Arthur was an American Christian author, Bible teacher, and co-founder of Precept Ministries International. Renowned for her accessible and inductive approach to Bible study, she helped millions engage deeply with Scripture. Arthur began her ministry informally, teaching teenagers in her living room alongside her second husband, Jack Arthur. Their work soon grew into a global outreach, headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, under the name Precept Ministries International. She hosted the daily Bible teaching program Precepts for Life and became a respected voice in evangelical circles. Arthur authored numerous books and was a four-time winner of the ECPA Christian Book Award for titles such as A Marriage Without Regrets and The New Inductive Study Bible. Her ministry was rooted in a personal reawakening to faith in the early 1960s, following a divorce and a return to religious life. She and Jack also served briefly as missionaries in Mexico before founding their ministry. Arthur remained active in public faith-based initiatives into her later years and was known for her firm stances on social issues. She passed away on 2025 leaving behind a lasting legacy in Christian education and publishing.
The best thing about inductive Bible study is that it makes you slow down and pay attention to Bible passages that are difficult to understand. (or ones that seem boring!) The three books covered in this study are definitely not on the "most popular" lists so I appreciated the opportunity to spend time digging for treasures in them.
Imagine spending one week studying just chapter 14 of Zechariah. Or three weeks in the four chapters of Malachi. Or four days on just one verse (Zech 12:10)! I can't say I've become an expert on these books, but I certainly enjoyed being forced to read and re-read them, and discovering their many links to New Testament passages. A worthwhile study!
The portion on Haggai was more so review of Ezra (which was a fantastic entry in this series of study guides). I didn't get much from that section unfortunately. However, Zechariah and Malachi were great, with Malachi in particular being excellent.
I've now read all of the books on the Old Testament within this series (DNFed the Psalms entry and have read several from the New Testament as well). I'll say again that they shine at helping to understand prophecy and historical context without telling the reader what to think or imparting anything extra-Biblical. I highly recommend!
I had never done an inductive study before so wasn't prepared for the detailed homework, but the discussion questions and the group I studied with made this an eye opening study for seeing God's power and plans.
Another Inductive study finished! This was a study on Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. Three “minor” prophets with a major theme! They all speak to Israel quite pointedly about God’s expectation of obedience and their miserable failure in that area. Zech and Mal both talk quite a bit about the coming day of the Lord and much of the judgment that accompanies it. I definitely learned a lot and have a more broad understanding of Scripture as a whole after studying these three books for the last 8 months!
wow...just got home from studying the "full version" of Zechariah at Precept Ministries....Main Concept: Return to Me, that I may return to you! Would love for my Jewish friends to be encouraged reading this amazing book of the Bible to see the wonderful and peaceful restoration that G-d has planned for Jerusalem and Israel...one day, maybe soon! Yes, times will be tough in the short run, but He has NOT forgotten His chosen people!
