They bonded over the fact that they both felt the same. They both felt they didn't fit in with their families.
Once all the secrets are revealed, how will they fit in as far as their families. And will they still be able to fit each other in their new lives, whatever happens.
I read this book the fastest of the three books in 25 hours after starting it. I wish had been more hours in the day or wasn’t as sleepy last night. I could have finished the third and finale book in The Silver Star of Texas trilogy. I loved all three brothers, but Cole is my favorite as the bad boy of the family and the only one to join the military where Zane had gone to college and Sloan had been the Sheriff.
Cole McKinney, the son that was tossed away by his dad, not wanted by his brothers either, grew up to be a wonderful tracker for the Texas Rangers. He struggled with life and after his mother’s death he about went the wrong way, but he was saved. The Rancher his mom cooked for took him under his wing and showed him the way. Cole became an Army sniper before joining DPS and then the Rangers. He hadn’t once asked for help from his brothers who are also Rangers.
Joey Hendricks’ life wasn’t much better because where she had both her parents there neither one noticed her. Her mother was too busy being drunk and high on pills. Her dad was planning the fake kidnapping/murder of her two year old brother. She felt guilt all her life since she was thirteen because Justin had been taken and presumed dead. Her mother blamed her for it all. She hadn’t been back in Justice, Texas in years. The Governor of Texas had sent her back to take care of the media and to keep an eye on the Rangers.
Cole and Joey first meeting was wild and that was how it stayed right up to the last page. They meet in front of the local bar and rode away there too. Not once but twice they were ran off the road by a vehicle. They were shot at and almost killed from day one in town. The killer didn’t much like them getting closer to finding what happened to Justin because that was what would make the rest come out.
I had wondered if Justin was the killer, but I was dead wrong. Justin or should I say Caleb was alive, well, and seventeen years old. He had no clue about who his real parents where, even though he knew he’d been adopted. Adopted wasn’t quite how it was, but I’ll let you find out about that part. The real killer I had never even expected and I’m still stunned.
Jim McKinney was finally officially cleared on the charges that had disgraced him years before. Moreover, he is not Justin/Caleb’s father even though for a while that is thought. However, Leland is certainly not Joey’s brother dad. It was just as shocking to find out who the dad to Justin/Caleb was.
Secrets, lies, and battles all rolled into another book, but the town of Justice can finally rest now that the killer is caught. All three McKinney brothers with Fiancées now and the broken bonds are minding. Cole is even being accepted, it just took the entire book for him to be taken at face value after butting heads with both his brothers, his dad and Stella McKinney.
This book is defiantly worth a read and a re-read in my opinion. Cole being the bad boy and my favorite and Joey and him going together hand in hand.
This was a Great book. It had action, Romance and suspense. It could be read as a stand alone, but it’s better to read Trace Evidence in Tarrant County first then read this one. Trace Evidence left a lot of unanswered questions. Justice for a Ranger was an Awesome follow up book. I loved Joey and Cole in this book. The story had lots of twist and turns, and I have to say I never saw the outcome coming…
Sample from Chapter 10 Panic shot through Joey as the car skidded into the tree and fire burst from the hood. The air bag trapped her, and she was hanging upside down between it and the seat. The scent of smoke and gas permeated the air, raising her fear another notch. Her chest ached from the impact of the bag, and her arm from being thrown against the door, but she was alive. Next to her, Cole grunted ans swiped at the air bag. “Joey, are you all right?” “Yeah. You?” Yes. But we have to get out of here fast. The cars going to blow any second. “I Know.” She jiggled her seat belt trying to free it. “ Cole, my seat belt is stuck!”
I'm just not in love with romance novels. All of them seem to go over the top in romance and sex. I would much rather read a good mystery with romance mixed in but as a reaction to the story. Cole McKinney sounds like a very handsome man but more important a good person, one with integrity. He had a hard life as a kid but came out on top as a Texas Ranger. Joey Hendricks also had a hard life as a child but there too came out on top in her life. She was a special investigator for the Texas governor. She too was nice looking but had other good qualities which made her stand out. Those two got together and were able to solve two murder mysteries. The mysteries I enjoyed.
The sexual tension in this book both annoyed and amused me. Two single adults, no ties to wife, husband or lovers, and yet they are too "honorable" to just let go and be themselves. Aside from that, it was a very interesting plot with a couple of really twisty curves to it. I enjoyed the book, and believe it was worth the money spent to buy it. Besides, I like reading about the Texas Rangers, they are bold, brave and maybe even a bit crazy.
A quick read with likable characters and a believable love connection. The mystery of the story takes away rather than adds to the romance and is rather predictable.
A story that will have your heart strings being pulled and you wanting to smack that daylight out of a father and his family for not getting to know his third son and a investigator for the governor coming home will tire up old wounds that will have both people coming together for the truth that will final put to rest of who killed this investigators brother. But finding this out will have a surprise ending that will shock the characters in the book and you.
This book was hard to get into. I didn’t like how the main male character said he didn’t care where the truth would lead, but then took a piece of evidence from a crime scene and stuck it into his pocket. He didn’t document it or tell anyone about it until the end of the book. I skimmed a lot of this book to get to the end.
