As a former student of Rousseau, I was quite familiar with his stories. I know Dr. Liley and I like him very much. I was excited for this book. Liley uses many direct quotations, which for me was nice because I could here Rousseau's voice, but I think the real narrative of Rousseau's life gets lost. There are so many more stories and places for elaboration that were left untouched. Also, the helpful hints section in the back, I feel, should have been Rousseau's direct words, not his words through Liley. I feel the book is easier to read than Umble's Jean-Marie Londeix: Master of the Saxophone, but lacks the depth. I was disappointed.
