Corey's Fire
Corey has disliked her good-looking neighbor from the moment they met: not only is Topher scorchingly sarcastic, he rides a noisy motorcycle and makes a sport of chasing Corey's beloved cat. But when a brushfire levels nearly the entire neighborhood, Topher is the only person who understands Corey's rage and sorrow. ناگهان، بخشی از وجودت را از دست میدهی و چارهای جز نگاه کردن نیست.
کتاب دربارهی از دست دادن، دوباره ساختن، تغییر، داستان پشت زندگی آدمها، دوستی، اهمیت گفتوگو و احساسات، فرار نکردن از اندوه و مسائل دیگر است.

This is my favorite fiction book ever written, and it's definitely number one in my Young Adult collection!
Corey, age 14, lives in a beautiful house in a Santa Ana canyon, where there's great fire danger during the month of October. One night, she hears her annoying, new 16-year old neighbor, Christopher ("Topher") tearing up the neighborhood as he whizzes by on his loud motorcycle for the umpteenth time. Corey is disgusted, especially when Topher spooks her beloved cat, Jabberwocky, by chasing him.
One evening, as Corey comes out of hers to head to her friend Ericka's house, to plan a Halloween party, she runs into Topher, who is coming over to begrudgingly apologize for his behavior towards Jabberwocky. He actually wants to give her a piece of his mind! But the two suddenly smell smoke and notice flames at the top of the canyon! Corey does everything she can to save her house, since her parents and brother are both away from home, but Topher convinces her to jump on his motorcycle and take off. She eventually listens.
Corey's parents finally get in contact with her and the whole family ends up living in a hotel for a while. School isn't the same. Her friendship with Ericka isn't the same either, since Ericka is the only one in the neighborhood who got to keep her house. Corey wants things to go back to the way they were before. The only one she can relate to is Topher, who opens up to her about his own family life. The two of them bond as they go back to look for Jabberwocky, who they never end up finding. Corey's parents decide to rent a different house instead of rebuilding their old one, which devastates Corey.
Corey wants to push everyone away, like Topher did, because of the changes she's going through. Finally, Topher confronts her, and she realizes she has to open her heart. He and she both decide that if they want the neighborhood rebuilt, it's up to them.

One of my very first favorite books.

I'm pretty sure my sister got this book from a Troll or Scholastic book order form in the mid 1990s. She was so proud of the book, and I recall being flummoxed by the boy's name. Topher, rhymes with toe-fur. But it was short for Christopher, so shouldn't the name rhyme with tougher? Does anyone actually pronounce Christopher chris-toe-fur?
And yes, something so stupid stuck with me years later when I found this book at my parents' house. I decided to give it the ole go.
It's a pretty good story about a teenager, Corey, who loses her home and everything except for the shirt on her back in a massive California fire. Worst of all, her beloved cat, Jabberwocky, ran off during the fire. Corey can't help but resent her friends whose homes were not destroyed. Her parents worry about money and decide not to rebuild the home they loved so much.
The author does a good job of what it felt like to be a teen in the 80s, feeling powerless in decisions (no internet or cell phones to escape to). I was particularly touched by Corey's sincere but fruitless attempts to find her cat, such as trying to buy an ad in the classifieds for the "lost" section. The book seems to be written for elementary age readers, or middle school readers at the oldest.
I didn't care too much for Topher and found him unnecessary to the story, though I appreciated him as something other than a love interest. He's a bad boy on a motorcycle, and a complete and utter jackass. He's downright nasty to Corey, but they inadvertently bond over the fire and he's sort of the Bagger Vance type character who helps her find her way. I'd have been more fond of him if he had a better reason for being such a jerk but the big reveal is that .
Recommended as a quick read if you're an 80s/90s kid who remembers the joy of those book order forms and the simple, clean books they featured.

مواجهه با غم و پذیرش آن کار سختی است...
اینکه از مراحل مصیبت بگذری و خودت را زیر خروارها چرا و درد پیدا نی و دستش را بگیری که دوباره بلند شود، پروسه ای است که به تنهایی و ناگهان اتفاق نمی افتد اما درک شدن مهم ترین کلید روشن شدن و برداشتن قدم های این مسیر است.
خانه زیبای من، با نام اصلی آتش کری، به خوبی این پروسه را به تصویر کشیده و به همین جهت لزوما مختص گروه سنی نوجوان ننیست، برای بزرگسالی که دچار گم شدگی بین آوار غم ها شده هم انتخاب مناسبی است که همراه کری قدم بردارد به سمت تغییر برای بهتر شدن.

کتاب با عنوان «خانه ی زیبای من» در ایران ترجمه شده است. این کتاب میتواند به نوجوانانی که در دوران بلوغ هستند کمک کند طور دیگری به دنیای اطراف نگاه کنند و بر مشکلات غلبه کنند.

یک کتاب خوب برای نوجوانان، با اینکه سی سالم هست و کتاب برای نوجونهای بالای ۱۴-۱۳ سال نوشته شده ولی دغدغه ها و چالش های زیبایی مطرح میکنه ودر پایان هم پیله کری تبدیل به پروانه میشه با اینکه عزیزانش از دست داده یعنی خونه قدیمیشون و گربه اش جبرواکی ولی تصمیم میگیره بقیه عزیزانش از دست نده

کری، دختر شانزده ساله ای در کالیفرنیای جنوبی، خانه اش را در توفان آتش از دست می دهد. توفان آتش 200 خانه و کل دره را می سوزاند و از بین می برد. پذیرفتن این حادثه برای کری و خانواده اش آسان نیست. کری خانه اش را از دست داده و اگر مواظب نباشد، خانواده و دوستانش را نیز از دست خواهد داد.
