Rate this book
Amber comes home from university to be with her father after he suffers a series of heart attacks.

A strange "virus" is sweeping through England, but one night, Amber watches helplessly as a ghost kills her neighbor, and she realizes there is no virus.

The government is lying. The fragile economy is collapsing as more and more people get sick, or die. Her parents are near bankruptcy, and Amber's only hope seems to be an eccentric Scotsman who can do nothing but offer her a dangerous job.

Then Amber realizes there is a bigger problem. It isn't just the living who are being attacked. One ghost destroys another ghost right in front of her. Will her father's soul will be destroyed if he dies?

Not terribly written, but there wasn't enough explained. I think the author was setting it up for the reveal in a sequel, but to me it just felt unfinished. The idea was unique, the characters interesting, although it never managed to scare me as intended.

This was gripping and thoroughly fascinating, with believable and likeable characters though there were a few issues. I will be looking for the next in the series.

SPOILERS AHEAD

My few problems were:

1) What happened to the neighbor's boy? One minute he was staying with Amber & her parents and then poof - he's not mentioned ever again.

2) Reading about Amber's pain after the amputee ghost attacked her was very difficult.

3) The loss of Amber's dogs was heart-wrenching and I was actually rooting for her to take out the mob-leader. He deserved far worse than a flaming bottle of alcohol landing on his head.

I loved:

1) Duncan

2) Duncan's moving buddies

3) Amber was likeable and believable.

4) Amber's dad was wonderful, though how he's surviving is beyond me.

It was rather unfortunate that I didn't like this book. It had all the right elements and yet I had to force myself to continue reading early on. I hoped that somwthing would click for me. Although it didn't, I do believe that this book had great potential and many will enjoy it.

There are ghosts killing people and the government is passing it off as a virus. People will not return home as the property are haunted and the owners send a salvage crew to save some of their good. A dangerous job and not always successful.

The thought of ghosts being able to kill people is a crazy scary idea. I really got into the story, and now I need to finish the series. I really enjoyed the characters and the story was laid out very nicely.
