I just finished reading all three of these books in the Temperance Brennan series. As a Canadian it is fun for me to read a novel that includes Montreal. I have only ever made it as far as Quebec, however the "canadianisms" that the author includes I find to be fun little quirks for us Canucks to recognize and enjoy. With that aside I am truly enjoying the pace of these novels and the twists and turns that make the mystery enjoyable but do not completely spoil the reader's ability to perhaps sleuth their own way to the killer(s). It is interesting to read these after seeing the TV show that was inspired by the books. There are SO MANY changes in the TV series. The show is good but as is often the case I would vote that the books are better. I am also enjoying that the first three books in this series has taken us on three completely different journeys. Each novel was truly an original storyline. As an aside "Deadly Decisions" was extremely interesting for me. The author schools us on Criminal Biker Clubs and the novel highlights The Bandidos. Since it was written The Bandidos were massacred on a farm very close to my hometown. This Biker Gang related even is Canada's largest mass murder. Our sleepy little town was stunned and shocked. Our crime pages consist of reports to the Provincial Police of grass being left to grow past the municipal by-law height. I love the detail the author weaves to connect her research with her fiction. It allowed me to envision exactly how the shocking farmhouse massacre came to be and some of the possible politics behind a raid between warring Bike Club Factions. Reichs has a way of bringing all that you are reading to life of the page. It is for this reason that I am reading/re-reading all of the Tempe Brennan Novels.
I’m pretty late to the game, I’ve never watched the TV show Bones or picked up the Temperance Brennan series so I came in to this audio collection not knowing what to expect. (Since starting the books I have started to watch the TV show) I don’t do a lot of audio books because sometimes I do like to flip back some pages for reminders and clarification which can be almost impossible to do with an audio book. Overall I really enjoyed starting this series with the audio. A big reason for that is because there are a lot of French names and some French spoken so having the narrator read made it easier for me to understand. Because the first book takes place in Montreal, Canada I did find some of the descriptions of the travel around the city a little confusing because I don’t know Montreal topography at all. Even though these were abridged I thought they did a very good job of providing the critical information to the story as well as introducing all the characters. Each story was fun to listen to, action packed, and edge of my seat entertainment. I keep hoping that I get stuck in traffic so I can listen to a little bit more.
If you watched the TV show and are hoping to jump in to the books to catch up with your favorite characters, just know that the only similarities between the two are that the main character is Temperance Brennan and she is a forensic anthropologist. Almost everything else is different between the books and TV; setting, supporting characters, and even some of Temperance’s mannerisms.
Three abridged novels totaling 14.5 hours. We listened to them back-to-back and each one made me want to get back in the car in order to find out what happened next. I've only just begun to read/listen to Tempe Brennan mysteries but so far none have disappointed!
So far ,I have listened to Death du Jour and am prensently listening to De'ja` Death. The heroinne is a former Archaeologist now working in N.C. and Quebec as a forensic anthropologist for the police depts. Lots of mystery and suspense revolving around discovered corpses in varying stages of putrefaction. It's better than it sounds. The manditory love interest is there but with a twist. I finished the last CD this weekend 2 May . I happened to listen to them out of order but it only affected the sequence of the love interest, wwhich hasn't developed very far anyway. Basically, good murder mysteries taking place in Montreal/ Quebec. I enjoyed them but never heard poutine mentioned once.
Such a good set of books! I was suprised that there was enough emotional content in the stories to keep them intriguing - overall, a fair mix of the technical and dramatic. However, I can tell that this series is likely to overdo it on how many times the main character, Temperance Brennan, is forced into violent situations. Also, there are too many situations where her family/friends happen to be involved in something relates to the murders Brennan is investigating - or they end up being threatened themselves. Too coincidental. I do look forward to reading the next novels in the series though!
These books are the basis for the TV series Bones. These books are the first three in the Temperance Brennan series. Unlike the TV series, Tempe is a divorced, on-the-wagon alcoholic, with a college-age daughter. She splits her time between North Carolina and Montroyal.
She almost reminds me of Anna Pigeon from the Nevada Barr series. She sometimes strikes out on her own, and doesn't always do the right thing.
The books are fun to read. These unfortunately were abridged, but I am looking forward to reading unabridged versions going forward.
Temperance Brennon, forensic anthropologist, very different character from the television series.
I read these three books a few years back, and enjoyed them this time via audio CD.
In the life of a career woman, Reich weaves together family dynamics (sister, nephew, daughter), love interest (Detective Ryan), and good investigative work to find the story behind murdered victims. There is a bit of history, forensics, risk, suspense...
Just finished Deja Dead the 1st book from the Bones series. Really enjoyed this book. Suspenseful. Temperance Brennan an Anthropolgist is working on a case that she believes is the work of a serial killer. She just needs to prove to the police and in the process her best friend becomes one of the serial killers victims and she herself almost becomes a victim. Can't wait to read the rest of the books. I love the TV show so much thought I would enjoy these books and I do.

My best friend wanted this series of books for her Birthday and so when I bought her copies I decided to get myself the audio version. They were great books and the narator does an excellent job. The only dissapointment I had with them is that they were Abridged versions instead of Unabridged.
A bit gruesome but interesting. I am listenening to this on tape. I like listening to this surprisingly enough. It makes me want to go out and drive somewhere b/c I don't have a tape player anywhere else.
I love reading about my hometown. The author has a very good understanding of Montreal and its people-francophone and Anglophone. At times the crime writing is a bit too technical and I lose the story. But I do not mind reading Reichs.
