This book is subtitled "A guide for parents whose child is more intense, sensitive, perceptive, persistent, energetic." This book introduced me to a new perspective in parenting——describing temperment, not only of the child but also the parent, and identifying characteristic traits, such as sensitivity and adaptability, as a range of responses, i.e., very sensitive or adapt quickly to usually not sensitive or slow to adapt. It provided a framework to describe and address responses, recognizing the potential for strengths in every characteristic trait and effective approaches to anticipating and avoiding some extreme responses. It reminded me, most of all, to appreciate and acknowledge different responses, especially those I did not experience or understand or share.
