This book took me forever to read, I just couldn't get into it. The story was not interesting and no real high notes or cliff hangers. Sebastian was turned against his will by Madeline who wanted a companion but murdered his family so he was not all that welcoming which I can understand. Then after being alone for so long he falls for Serenity who is a battered wife and he tries to get her to leave her husband before she becomes a victim to his abuse. Serenity is scared to leave and then does the unthinkable, she kills her husband in a fight or flight scenario. I was not invested in the characters so I was distracted by reading 3 other books in between and will not be reading the rest of the series.
37 pages....so don't get all excited when you open up this book, glance towards the bottom and see 250 pages, because the rest of the 213 pages are those 10 chapters the author includes of the first book in The Serenity Series, you might as well just download Alone, the first book as its currently being offered for free on BN.
Anyway, the first 37 pages is just the extremely quick intro Sebastian and Madeline's 'relationship' or lack thereof. It's really just a rundown of who they are and why Madeline decided to turn him, because she basically thought he was cute it's what it came down to...sighs...women. At least his wife didn't hate him for something that obviously wasn't his fault, so that's a good thing...
Sebastian' s life is cut short when he is turned into a vampire. Now that he has left his family and is on the run with his maker. Centuries go by and Serenity comes plowing into him with her haunted eyes. To make sure Serenity is ok Sebastian goes after her. But in her moment of insanity she stays with Sebastian a little longer than necessary. Gong back home for Serenity is going to be a series of bruises all done to her by her husband Jackson. Will advice from a stranger be enough for Serenity to run and never come back? Or will she stay and eventually die from one of Jackson's beatings?
Made a mistake on the date I finished so I fixed the date. Sorry.
The characters are very well written and I wanted to know even more about them, which to me is a sign of good characters. Sebastian was forced into the life of a Vampire. When he was given the chance to redeem his life by helping Serenity find herself again. She was married to man that was abusive and she hated everything about her life, until Sebastian swooped in. He seemed to be able to fix everything... if only he was willing to.
The ending left my jaw on the floor. This is a prequel to the book Alone. I can't wait to read Alone to find out how Serenity and Sebastian's lives carry on. Great and sweet story, very empowering at moments.
This is an incredibly short short - it was actually on 13% of the ebook. The rest of it was the first ten chapters of Alone, the next book in the series. So as such, this will be a short review.
This lays down the groundwork about how Sebastian became a vampire and under what circumstances. It gives a good snapshot of how he feels about his family but doesn't really go into much depth.
If you want to read the next book then yes, read this. If you're not sure then you could read this to give it a go. If you doubt you will read the series for whatever reason then skip this as it isn't really a standalone.
Marissa Farrar The Vengeful Vampire Prequel to the “Serentiy” Series
Although very short, this will leave you wanting to read “Alone”, the first in the Serenity Series immediately. The reader is introduced to Sebastian, who is desperate to get home to his wife and daughter after being away at sea. Unfortunately for him, a vampire has taken a liking to him and follows him home.
It’s well written, a great taster to the storyline and gives the reader an insight into the writing style of the author. Can’t wait to read more.
XD
Okay just realized this is a 4,000 word short story that leads in the direction of bigger books, I do have to comment that it was just to short to be really entertainings. It could have been longer with better descriptions. It seemed to me it was a rush to get it written. I think it could have been better and alot more entertaining if the author would have taken her time. I will read her next book, there will be my judgement-after I read the first in these books.
I liked this book but diffidently didn't love it. Serenity is abused physically and mentally by her husband which is a writer. The book reminded me of the country songs. The ones where the woman never leaves an abusive spouse and ends up dead by the end of the song. She meets Sebastian he tries to tell her to move on and leave her abusive husband.
They weren't kidding when they said it was a short story. I finished it in ten minutes and that was with interruptions. Not too sure if it's enough of a teaser to read the full length novel or not. I'm going to read the reviews for the book and see what they say before I decide on if I'm going to read it.
Ok, I was definitely expecting more than this...it was a very good introduction to Sebastian, but I think there could have been more...a lot happened in the 200 years before he me Serenity. I think the author could have given us a look into some of those years and the things that he did to get even or away from Madeline.
I was given this book by the author in return for an honest review.
Although this is only a short story I thought it was excellent an was also a wonderful introduction to Sebastian and how he came to be. Can't wait to read "Alone" which is the follow on from this book :)
A short story that was just that. The few facts that must be relevant to the first book in this series could possibly have been incorporated somehow into the actual first book instead of this prequel. I am however looking forward to the first book 'Alone'.
This isn't a bad book at all. I'm actually going to begin the next in this series right after getting off of here. The characters are believable and the story is easy to follow without confusion or anything else. I was impressed with how nicely it was thought out as well.
Thought this was a good book but a little too short. although it is a prequel so... i liked this book so i bought the second, but was let down to tell you the truth.
I enjoyed reading the back story to sebastian! It was a little slow getting into the first book, but i ended up reading all of the books and loved them! Great job!!
