"What happens when you have more "hot" questions on the Bible and creationism than you can answer in one book? You create a second volume! The New Answers Book 2 explores over 30 exciting and faith-affirming topics,
The fall of Lucifer and the origin of evil When does life begin (and why does it matter)? Is evolution a religion (and why should I care)? Archaeology, Egyptian Chronology, and the great flood Could early biblical figures like Noah really live to over 900 years of age? What was the Star of Bethlehem (and how did the wise men follow it)? The "Evolutionization" of our culture - including intelligent design, gay marriage, Hollywood movies, and more! Explore these and other topics, answered biblically and logically in this book from the world's largest apologetics ministry, Answers in Genesis.
The newest title in the Answers book series, contributors include Ken Ham, Dr. Andrew Snelling, Dr. Jason Lisle, Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell, Dr. Danny Faulkner, Mike Riddle, and more."
Dr. Ken Ham is the president of Answers in Genesis USA and is a well-known speaker and author on the subject of Young-Earth Creationism. He received a bachelor degree in applied science (emphasis on environmental biology) from the Queensland Institute of Technology, and a Diploma of Education from the University of Queensland. He has also received two honorary doctorates: a Doctor of Divinity from Temple Baptist College, and a Doctor of Literature from Baptist Liberty University.
He was a director of Creation Science Foundation (CSF) in Australia, an organization which he jointly founded with John Mackay. In 1987 he moved to the United States, still maintaining his links with CSF.
From 1987 to 1993, Ham worked for the Institute for Creation Research, and in 1994 set up what in 1995 became Answers in Genesis (AiG), a creation ministry dedicated to "upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse."
In 2008 Ham was described by well known atheist and evolutionary biologist PZ Myers as a "Wackaloon" for carrying out a prayer session with members of the Pentagon. Ham responded regarding the validity of that prayer breakfastand that PZ Myers and other critics were intolerant of his position.
Another winner from Ken Ham and Co. Some chapters are certainly better than others, but there is a wealth of information to be found here--and it's not the stuff we're getting from the mainstream media or our public school system. For anyone who thinks that science and religion are two opposing viewpoints that must, by definition, remain completely at odds with each other, this book will drive you crazy. My only real complaint is regarding the comic strips and illustrations throughout. About twenty years ago, when I was a little kid, I saw Ken Ham speak, and he used the exact same ones in his presentation. THE NEW ANSWERS BOOK 1 used them as well. I'm getting a little tired of seeing them recycled so often. Plus, most of them are pretty cheesy. Other than that, this is an excellent book on science from a biblical perspective, and I'm looking forward to cracking open Book 3.
This book was excellent. It dealt with quite a lot of issues and questions and it was so helpful for me to learn how to better defend my faith.
What I Liked: This book walked you through ways to deal with certain questions evolutionists ask in an attempt to stump Creation scientists and believers. These authors also encourage believers to stand on the Word of God and to trust it. They deal with other world issues and science questions in a very informative way that was quite understandable. I enjoyed this book quite a bit.
What I Didn't Like: There wasn't anything that I didn't like about this book.
I give this book 5 stars for an excellent look at some important issues. I definitely feel better equipped to defend my faith in Jesus Christ. This book is definitely a favorite of 2017.
The work Ken Ham does through Answers in Genesis, The Creation Museum and The Ark Encounter is amazing. I love his drive for Biblical truth and evangelism. That being said, I felt like this volume was not as good as the first. There were multiple things being repeated and I felt some information was not necessary. All in all, I enjoyed the book.
As with the first one, it was tedious at times, like reading a textbook. Some sections were very repetitive of book 1. And some were more science than I could handle BUT I still love these books. So informative and enlightening. I learn so much from these and they answer so many questions I've had since I was a child. 🥰
I would highly recommend all Christians read this book, which explains both Biblical narratives and topics relative to today's culture. It's written to be read by topic, or cover-to-cover. Most of the articles were easy to understand. Only 1 or 2 were very "sciencey", which I then skimmed through.
A very good book in the Answers series. There are a few chapters they may be more difficult for some people to understand the science, but overall Ken Ham and the other authors did a great job presenting the information so it should be easily understood.
I didn’t like this one as much as The New Answers Book. Overall, my thoughts on this book are the same as that one, so see that review. In this book, only 9 or so of the 31 questions deals directly with "evolution" (biological, geological, or cosmological). The others focus on biblical interpretation and application, theological questions, biblical historicity and inerrancy, and cultural/moral implications.
I liked the chapter that shows how geological processes such as lithification of sedimentary layers, erosion, fossilization, and coal formation can happen rapidly and don’t require millions of years. See Aren’t Millions of Years Required for Geological Processes?
Perhaps I misunderstand, but it seems that sometimes these books use the same uniformitarian assumptions they call invalid. They claim that rates (for values such as lightspeed, radioactive decay, and genetic mutation) may have changed in the past, rendering modern measurements inaccurate, yet they use uniformitarian rates to defend creationism in other instances (lunar recession, weakening of Earth’s magnetic field, and comet destruction).
Fossil record "...in a very general way the order of fossil 'succession' in the geologic record would reflect the successive burial of these pre- Flood biological communities as the Flood waters rose up onto the continents." Distinct faunal "stratigraphic horizons" can be explained by water sorting "simpler" (spherical and undifferentiated) organisms first, and others in order of increasing structural complexity.
Sediment beds tend to contain, from lowest to highest, marine vertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, and finally birds and mammals. The Flood can explain this order:
1. Increasing mobility, and therefore increasing ability to postpone inundation and burial; 2. Decreasing density and other hydrodynamic factors, which would tend to promote later burial; and 3. Increasing elevation of habitat and therefore time required for the Flood waters to rise and advance to overtake them.
Biblical historicity and inerrancy Creationists can’t argue for creation without the Bible. The Bible reveals major events (Creation, Fall, Flood, Babel, etc.) that enable interpretation of present facts.
The questioning of the historicity of Genesis wasn’t due to a reexamination of Scripture, but rather to match secular/evolutionary views. See Are Biblical Creationists Divisive?
"If the writer of Genesis was so careless as to omit over 85 percent of the generations in Genesis 11, why did he waste time giving us the information in the first place? What purpose would it serve, since it would be so inaccurate?" See Are There Gaps in the Genesis Genealogies?
Biblical canon Jesus and the apostles didn’t quote from the Apocrypha, even though they used the Septuagint which contained the Apocrypha (at the end). Josephus didn’t consider the Apocrypha part of Scripture. See Why 66?
Extrabiblical writings and "missing" gospels aren’t consistent with canonical Scripture and should be rejected. See Is the Bible Enough?
Theology The chapter Is Jesus God? contains many proof texts on Jesus’ divinity and the Trinity.
Review title: More Biblical alternatives to theories of origin
Two years after the original (The New Answers Book 1) more people had questions on creation, evolution, and the young-earth theory, hence this second volume. Like the first, the answers are interesting for those who are interested in approaching the answers (and the questions) with a mind open to these alternative approaches to origins.
"Approaches" may be more appropriately written as "approach", singular, as in the presumption that the Biblical account of creation, world-wide flood, and human dispersal at Babel in Genesis 1 to 11 are literal and accurate from the historical perspective, so that they can serve as valid assumptions underlying valid origin theories explaining the observations of modern empirical science. As I said in my review of the first volume, the answers make logical sense, even if not arranged in logical order, and the science focuses on establishing plausibilities, not air-tight solutions.
Some of the same ground is covered again, some with the same information and some with updated information. Among the best of the answers in this volume:
Q. 11 - a historical review of the origins of the theory that the earth is millions of years old (an idea that predates Darwin even though he is often given credit for it). .
Q.20 - a logical definition and theory of information that concludes that information can only be created by an intelligent, non-material source, and that DNA, as information by definition must have been created by an intelligent non-material source.
Q.23 - an explanation of geological phenomena such as the Grand Canyon and ocean reef formation that doesn't require millions of years, including the halting steps of old-earth geologists toward allowing catastrophic events in their theories without accepting Biblical accounts of extraordinary creation and the ultimate catastrophe of a world-wide flood.
Q.28 - an account of the dispersal of the human race at Babel, including a short review of historical genealogies from various world cultures that show lineage tracing back to the sons of Noah.
Q.31 - an explanation for fossil formation and fossil strata ordering within the Biblical timeline and caused by the Genesis flood.
The fact that this still exists is atrocious. Learn to think rationally, rather than reacting emotionally. Evolution is a fact, and if you question that perhaps you may still consider taking a boat and finding the edge of this flat earth? Ken Ham represents part of a major decline in civilization at a point where there is so much opportunity for the growth of truth.
It's great to read a book that reinforces faith and trusts in the Word as a foundational source of truth and not with the shaky (and blind) foundation of skepticism.
