Nichole’s boss at the fast food restaurant catches her cousin Gail practically giving food away and since Nichole was there when it happened, she may be in trouble as well. She can’t lose this job or she’ll also be in trouble with her parents. Her boss works out a deal with Gail which has Nicole chagrined when she discovers what it is. She faces a quandary in whether to tell someone.

Jesse gets to spend some time with his mother when she makes her first trip to Clearwater Crossing. His father and his father’s new wife aren’t pleased having her in town and aren’t making it easy on Jesse. To top it off, his father’s new wife’s daughter is getting on his last nerve. He wants to live with his mother when she goes back to California.

Melanie is feeling lonely and receives a note from an aunt that she doesn’t know well, inviting her for a visit four hours away.

Though I did like this book, it wasn’t clear why Gail accepted her boss’ condition for her keeping the job instead of taking the job loss. I didn’t understand why Nicole was implicated when it was clear she wasn’t involved when Gail practically gave the food away to a particular customer.

So Gail wasn’t so ‘perfect’ afterall…
