Kate Shoup brings a modern, off beat sensibility to cross stitch, embroidery, and needlework with Not Your Mama's Stitching. I haven't made many of the patterns from this book, but I really liked the variety of patterns. I have some experience crafting but an almost complete lack of ability to learn physical things from written instruction, and even I could muddle my way though the instructions. It's definitely not the kind of crafting my grandma did.

f you want a glossy-photo table book, keep looking. If you have a good grip on employing sarcasm and want to read real step-by-step tutorials on all the basic embroidery stitches, this is definitely the book for you!
Humor filled instructions with attainable projects, this book is a great intro to the world of subversive stitchery.

When I ordered this book I expected to like it a lot more. The project ideas aren't really that fun or clever. Out of all of the patterns/project ideas (there are about 20), I only found 2 or 3 even remotely interesting/inspiring. The writing was funny enough, but not enough to save the fact that the projects were tame enough that my grandma would probably like to do them.

This book includes many well thought-out tutorials with refreshing new ideas about needlework for today's hip chicks. The projects are very customizable. I find it especially exciting that many of the projects use yarn that realistically suits a stitcher on a budget.

Got this from the library to check out tha patterns. Only one sort of appealed to me. That being said, the instructional part was pretty good. I think this would be a good book for instruction for a beginner.

I thought there would be more pictures but overall this is a unique way of sewing some things you would not think to do. Very detailed and informative

Great idea! I wish there were more cross stitching patterns in it.
