Hide and Seek is the 4th book in its series and even though I haven't read any of the previous books, I was able to follow the story line easily. I got invested into the characters and felt like I was right there with them.
I found it interesting that this book had TWO prologues. I've never seen that before, but it was fun. I liked all of the characters and felt for the wife at times. I recommend not reading the blurb before you read the story, as I feel it gives away a big spoiler.
All in all, I recommend this to fans of military thrillers!

What an intense read! I knew from the previous book I read in this series—Fallen Angel—that I would like this newest release by Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky…and I wasn’t disappointed! Hide and Seek might take a few chapters for things to start happening, but once they do it continually escalade till the last page!
I really enjoyed getting to read more about the characters I got to know in Fallen Angel. I had forgotten how these guys can crack the jokes—several times I cracked up myself! I loved the camaraderie between the spec ops team members. And even the humor between their wives! It really added something to the book, in my opinion.
It’s hard to write this review without giving away a spoiler! There were a lot of twists and turns in Hide and Seek, that’s for sure. I’m starting to get a little crush on Crispin, known as Hawkeye…or Junior…or many other names the team plagues him with, haha! I loved Amelia’s ability to kick butt—dang, could she do some damage! The scenes from the home front, showing the team’s wives, were really emotionally touching. I admit getting teary-eyed—after reading a book like this, it gives me fresh respect for the women who have husbands serving overseas. What a sacrifice!
As I said before, the action in Hide and Seek was awesome. I was seriously gripping the pages toward the end, unable to even take a break from action! There were a lot of short scenes, cutting back and forth to the action. While some might think this would make understanding the full story confusing, Struecker and Gansky did a great job of presenting a clear storyline for the reader to follow. These two make a great team! I don’t know how many more books they plan to bring out with these characters, but I definitely hope there will be more!
Excellent read, this time with a quick-thinking and courageous female Captain. Urban warfare, mob madness, and political intrigue complicate an already tricky operation. The difficult aspects of meshing diverse personalties and building trust are also reflected in this rescue mission. Enjoyed immensely!
Just like the other books albeit this one was much more graphic. I did like the PM staged the death of tha team and the US couldn’t do anything about it until... they saved his daughter and the. They could fly the big helicopter in and save them. I hated the almost ending with Jose but of course have to ending with a upswing.

Not one book in this series disappointed. Each book played like an action packed movie in my head and the banter between team members was fantastically written. Sad that it is the final one as I would love more adventures with this team, but enjoyed the ride while it lasted.
But my biggest question is why did you put them in Fort Jackson? That’s mostly basic training. Rangers are at Fort Benning and a couple of other places.
Hide and Seek by Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky is based in the small country of Kyrgyzstan, an off shoot country from the former USSR. It’s a country rife with riots and uprisings.
Amelia Lennon, an army trained Foreign Affairs Officer, has just met with Juldiz Oskonbaeva, the government contact and lawyer daughter of the President of Kyrgyzstan, to negotiate a stay for the US military on Manas airbase. China and Russian are trying to out the US from the base.
Upon leaving the meeting, Amelia happens to follow behind Juldiz, as her next stop is just beyond Juldiz’s stop. Amelia witnesses an attempt to abduct her, contravenes the kidnapping, and finds them both on the run from the remaining abductors.
J. J. “Boss” Bartley was promoted to team leader of the mission to rescue Amelia despite Kyrgyzstan’s demand that US military remain outside the rioting areas. There are unknown circumstances with this mission that jeopardize the search and rescue. Amelia and Juldiz are alternately hiding and running to safety, unaware that the US Special Ops team is trying to find them. Thus begins part of the ‘hide and seek’ portion of the story.
At home, the wives of these men are misinformed that the whole team has been killed. So the story weaves back and forth between the grief and stress these women go through and the hazards of the team members.
I’ve come to enjoy the team of Struecker and Gansky in their high-rev mission trips of the Special Ops. This book is no different for action, suspense, danger, and deadly obstacles. The book may start out slow with the introduction of the team players and the meeting between Amelia and Juldiz, but the hard action and dangerous endeavors peal out of the racetrack and don’t stop till the end of the book. The scenes are depicted in real action and the characters form a camaraderie of humorous banter and serious workmanship.
I found the instrumentation and gadgets used for surveillance mind-boggling and fascinating– Special Ops gadgetry that are usually only privy to the military or thugs who might get their hands on for spying and interception. Now I don’t know if these actual instruments exist, but I’ve seen the bee drones, so I’m sure the information is close.
J. J. and another member are Christian, and they unabashedly pray during the hard times. They actually become a witness to the other men as the operation goes forth. It’s also a witness that one can be a Christian and still do the difficult job ahead of them, even if it means killing the enemy.
You don’t have to be a guy to enjoy this book. I’m fascinated by the bravery of the men that carry out these dangerous missions. It gives me a greater appreciation of what all our troops do on behalf of our country and the people of other countries. Grab a copy and sit down for an action-packed read! There are some raw areas that are gruesome, so keep that in mind.

Authors Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky, creators of Certain Jeopardy, have teamed up again to offer Hide and Seek, a fast-paced military adventure that sees the return of Master Sergeant J.J. Bartley, now promoted to Special Operations team leader. The team is on an air base in Kyrgyzstan, just about to start training with two new replacement members on their team, when they are suddenly called upon to rescue two women who have gone missing in the middle of an uprising of civilians who appear intent on overthrowing the government. Amelia Lennon is an Army trained Foreign Affiars officer who meets a government contact, Jildiz, daughter of the Kyrgyzstan president, to negotiate the continued presence of the Americans on the airbase. Following Jildiz on her way home from the meeting, Amelia witnesses a kidnap attempt, and her heroic actions send the women running for their lives through the chaos on the streets. J.J. and his team race to locate the women, uncovering a dangerous secret along the way.
Hide and Seek was a fantastic thriller, with non-stop action and excellent pacing. The characters are ones who readers will relate with, and for me I liked reading about men who are human, at times sarcastic and humerous, but above all are sacrificial and courageous in the face of danger. I love that the men are not shown as emotionless machines who have no fear. Instead, they are real men, men who man up when called upon, but who also ache for their families and who aren't afraid to cry when the situations calls for it. All of the characters are well-developed, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of their comments and interactions. The plot is believable and sobering, the writing so crisp that it will have your pulse racing. I felt like I was watching a movie! Although I haven't loved Alton Gansky's last couple of books, this one has restored my faith in his skill as a writer, and I hope that Gansky and Struecker have future books up their sleeves, because they will be on my list of planned reads if they do!
I highly recommend this outstanding read and give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Title: HIDE AND SEEK Author: Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky Publisher: Broadman & Holman 2012 ISBN 976-1-4336-7142-6 Genre: Inspirational/ Adventure Fiction \ Mystery Fiction \ Military Intelligence - Fiction
If you are a fan of action-packed, no-holds-barred military fiction, this is the book for you. By the same token, if you are a fan of Christian inspirational fiction where God is real and the situations are, too . . . this is the book for you. Hey . . . if you enjoy reading, this is the book for you!
This is the second book that the authors have constructed around an Army Special Operations team that is blacker than black, and is now being led by Master Sergeant J.J. “Boss” Bartley. And while I have not read the first book {though I’m planning on acquiring it ASAP) I had no trouble getting into the book. It stands alone, and the references to the previous book are clear enough without bogging down the story line.
The Kyrgzstan government is precariously positioned for either a triumphant future, or a devastating defeat. Army trained Foreign Affairs Officer Amelia Lennon is seeking to help stabilize the regime through diplomatic negotiations with the newly elected president. While following the lawyer daughter of the president, she thwarts an abduction attempt by those who are resistant to the new government, and finds herself struggling to survive in the war-torn landscape of Kyrgzstan.
“Boss” and his spec ops team have been tasked with the responsibility of rescuing the two fleeing women. In addition to the old team, two new members have been added. And now the team has been ordered into battle with zero time for assimilation. Unknown to the team, there are larger stakes at hand in this game of war and deception.
Written with a thorough understanding of what it takes to get the job done, you will roll with laughter at the give and take that goes on between the team members, and you will weep with sorrow at the situations they are forced to endure. Grab some coffee, and a box of tissues, because you are not going to be able to put HIDE AND SEEK down until you’ve finished the journey, and you are not going to want to get up to get supplies! 5 stars. 369 pages. $14.99..
Struecker and Gansky couldn't pack any more action into this novel. Not a page is turned without something being shot, smashed, blown up, or, at the very least, followed. For a civilian, Gansky has an incredibly grasp on military life and is able to pour drama and emotion into every action - both for those in the field and for those waiting for them at home. The story feels incredibly real as you read it - as if you're right there, seeing the fighting on the streets and seeing the terror in the faces of the Krygystani civilians who are just trying to get home safely.
I know virtually nothing about military life - but I feel as if I do now. I have a greater respect for those serving and even more so for their families. Hide and Seek is educational without being obvious and, lucky for me, Gansky is able to teach the military terms and phrases without leaving me in the dirt or making me feel stupid. Both are frustrating, but the story is so well written I felt neither.
I love when I can read a book and hand it to my husband, and that's just what I did with this one. The relationships between the men and their wives soften the harsh edges just a bit, but the story is really all about the men on this mission and the decisions they must make to succeed. I couldn't put it down, and I've never seen my husband fly through a book as fast as he did with this one.
If action stories are your favorites on any level, be sure to check this one out.
I received a free copy of Hide and Seek from the B&B Media Group in exchange for an honest review.
I'M HOOKED!! I love a well written book and this book has it all! Love, Laughter, Tears, Fear, Panic, WHAT!!!, Oh no!, all the factors that make you want to keep reading or follow the guys into the next battle and wait for the babies, and be a fly on the wall at the b-b-q's... There was just enough laughter to break the tension in a very real way. I know this book was written by a Retired Major and you can tell he knows his stuff! Small details like the thoughts going through their heads just before, during and after a battle. How the know they got hurt but it doesn't compute right away because they are still on go mode and adrenaline is keeping them from feeling the full extent of the pain until the stop and look at it or some one says something about it, then their brain says...oh, yeah that hurts really bad! Those are things you wouldn't know unless you had been through it. That's not television that's real life! I loved the book and now am on the hunt for his other books! I hope you keep writing Major!! I love your style!! I'm a new fan and plan to stay that way! I received this book from B&B Media to read and review for my unbiased opinion. These statements are mine and mine alone.
A female diplomat saves the daughter of the President from assassination, then flees for her life in a Krgyzstan city set aflame by rioting mobs. A special forces team sent in to rescue her is thought to have been killed, but they too are making their way through the city.
Each book in Struecker's "Sgt. Eric Moyer" series is better than the last. The installment is fast-paced, fascinating, and timely. This still isn't what I'd call fine literature, but it's a great story.
As with the other books in the series, serious issues are touched upon. What is it like when a family learns that their soldier has died? What is the role of a chaplain in such a situation?
The book did have some disappointments for me. The copyediting was quite a bit worse than the previous books--almost every one of the 32 chapters had a glaring typo or punctuation mistake. At the climax, the story features a canister of what is described as a biological material, then it becomes a biochemical material, then it behaves like a chemical weapon. Finally, the fictional story was overlaid upon real people, places, and events, which will make it hard for me to accurately unravel my understanding of the geopolitics of Kyrgyzstan.
"The dust has settled, but he's starting to think his prime minister was behind everything. He was staging a coup without it looking that way. The riots, the protests were orchedtrated to focus on key areas. The bio-chem attract would be blamed on the United States, forcing us to close the base. At this point we're guessing , but our intel guys think he was after the three billion the Chinese offered the country if we got the boot, and he was going to get a hefty pile of cash for himself. That's still speculation." Speculation, but hey, see what greed can do. A country on the verge of economic collapse, Kyrgyzstan. A president, Melkis, handing over the reins of government during public unrest so he could concentrate on rescuring his daughter Jildiz, on the run from an attempted kidnapping, to a prime minister Dootkasy who had his own ideas of policy and governing. A female army officer working in civilian, Amelia, trying to return the prime minister's daughter. A pregnant army wife, Tess, a christian woman angry from news of 'the death of her husband J. J.' These are some of the threads woven that we the reader must examine and carefully unravel in our reading of Hide and Seek by Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky.
I love a good military suspense/thriller and this was a very good read. I really enjoyed all the characters, even the secondary ones. I really like J.J. and his team, especially their humor and the way they interact with each other. Everyone comes across as very real and relatable. I especially liked Amelia. She was smart and tough! I like a strong, kick-butt female character. I think this is my favorite of Jeff Struecker's books.
Faith is an integral part of the story, and I like how it isn't shoved down anyone’s throat. It's there, but it's not pushy.
The only thing I don't like about this book (and all the books in the series.) is there's too many points of view. It's always a little confusing at the beginning trying to figure out who is who. I found myself skipping over parts of a characters POV's a couple of times and not missing anything in the plot.
I hope there's more books in this series! I highly recommend this book; there's plenty of suspense and action. And there's a character in here to satisfy every reader.
Set in the middle of Kyrgyzstan, a country boiling with turmoil, a foreign affairs office attempts to save the daughter of Kyrgyzstan’s president from terrorists determined on taking over the government. Master Sergeant J.J. Bartley is the leader of the team sent to rescue them, after the Kyrgyzstan government expressly tells the U.S. stay out. Mirroring today’s international tensions and immediate decisions required by our military leaders today, Hide and Seek is a riveting ride as the Special Operations team tracks down the two women who are running for their lives. Struecker uses his military knowledge to create a novel that puts the reader into stressful situations that mirror today’s current events. The inclusion of the characters’ conversations with the Lord creates an added depth to the story. This was definitely one of the best suspenseful novels I have read this year, and I am putting Struecker and Gansky on my list of Top Writers. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys war/ military, and suspense novels.
This is our August book club book. I had never read anything by this author. Someone from our club said that at first they were having issues with all of the military "stuff", but then called me later to tell me that she got really into it and couldn't put it down. I have to say that I completely agree. At first I wondered if I had made a mistake in picking this book without reading it first, and wondered if a bunch of woman, girly women, would enjoy it at all. Then I got to "know" the characters and the story line. This ended up being a fantastic book! Full of action, I learned more about Army Rangers and the jobs they do. I will most definitely read more books by this author. An author that I have never heard of, but so glad to have found.
This is a well written military suspense novel with a fantastic plot that is realistic and thought provoking. There is suspense, drama, and great characters. The rescue team leader's wife, who is pregnant, is told her husband is dead as well as the rest of the team. The grief and pain she experiences is heart breaking. She and the other famililes have been misinformed, the team is alive and well and knee deep in a dangerous mission to rescue two people.
The author has weaved four storylines into the book, each is as exciting as the other. You won't want to put the book down for a minute!
I received a copy of this book free from the B&B Media Group in exchange for an honest review.
Three stars or four? It was a good read, it kept my attention going all the way through, which is a bonus, because my mind wanders lots in books at times. But what annoyed me were the regular religious bits chucked in every now and then. They did nothing to add to the storyline. Also I could have done with less of the family stuff back home. I guess the author maybe developing some background for future books. If it doesn't add anything - then don't include it. But I guess that it deserves a four. But if I read anymore of Mr Strueckers books and they include random prayers, I'm out. If I want that stuff, I'll read the bible
A believable plot, a strong heroine and courageous heroes who aren't afraid to admit their belief in God. This was non-stop action and a riveting story. I skimmed over much of the technical military details because I just don't have the understanding, but the book is well written and the authors are definitely writing to their strengths. I tend to avoid thrillers and military stories, but this one sounded interesting and I'm so glad I read it. I was reminded of the early Jack Ryan novels by Tom Clancy.
Hide and Seek, the fourth book in the series, was an absolute pleasure to read. The authors put together a story that was both realistic and grand. The action is great and the character interactions are exceptional. Even in the midst of trying times, the authors are able to mix in humor seamlessly. This is a fantastic read and should remind everyone how blessed we are to have men and women, heroes, serving and willing to sacrifice themselves for others.
Riveting, thrilling, and could not put it down. Struecker takes you on a thrilling adventure of a special op team sent in to rescue 1 person. You are taken into the lives of these men and are left rooting for their survival. I found myself on edge during several parts of the book. I would highly recommend this book. ARC - Netgalley
A great military thriller by Major Strueker! Just like his other novels, it is intense, heartbreaking, and, yes, definitely a page-turner - making you want to keep reading non-stop 'cause you gotta find out what happens next!! Another great read by Major Jeff Strueker.
The daughter of the president of one of the former Russian states was almost kidnapped. A female American saved her from the kidnappers and they had to hide in the middle of riots hoping the good guys would find them.
Excellent. Powerfully and knowledgeably written. No cheese. Draws you in, makes you turn the page and begs you to read faster to return to the "other" story-line. Real to life reading. I even teared up and laughed when the moments arose! Likely hunt another of his books down and read it!
