Alone in his fortress, Gareth Wolff hides from the world. Until Gracie Darlington scales his mountain and lands at his doorstep-with cuts, bruises…and amnesia. But the reclusive billionaire knows her type. She wants something from him. Something he's spent a lifetime trying to forget….Gareth won't let the sexy interloper leave. Not until he learns her angle and sates his desire in her arms. Gareth always gets what he wants…but this time, once Gracie regains her memory, it may be too late. Because not only has she invaded his lair…she's invaded his heart.
Janice Maynard came to the writing life early! When her third grade short story, “The Princess and the Robbers”, won a red ribbon in a school arts fair, Janice was hooked. She followed up that early success with a more commercial piece in the sixth grade… “Why My Mom Loves To Drink Coke”. No advance for that one, but she won a six-pack of Coke… remember those great little bottles?
In junior high Janice began circulating her work to a wider audience. A dozen or so notebook pages stapled together made the rounds in some particularly boring classes, with the riveting tales carefully hidden behind textbooks.
High school meant the big time… editor of the school newspaper, the Maroon and White. Janice used her insightful editorials to delve into such meaty subjects as “locker room odor” and “why we need two-ply tissue in the student bathrooms”.
College brought lots of writing, but very little of it creative… four years later, Janice stepped into the adult world as a fully certified elementary teacher.
Despite motherhood, full-time employment, and keeping up with an “always into something” husband, Janice never lost her love of writing or the desire to be published. In 1996 she realized her long-time dream when Kensington Publishing bought her first book, Sweetheart. That exciting moment was followed by the sales of two more books in the Precious Gem line.
In the fall of 2002, Janice left the classroom to pursue writing full-time.
I wasn't able to finish this. Apparently, the last half is better than the first, from the reviews. I couldn't make it to the half way. The dialogue bugged me a lot, the instant "burning thighs" from a woman who should be at least a little freaked out about who she is irritated me. I get that it is a romance, but take a chapter and devote it to the emotions that a gal would be having when she wakes up and doesn't remember who she is. I did not care or want to care about these characters, which made it hard for me to keep reading.
I really enjoyed this book. Gareth was a great wounded hero. I loved the way he used his artistry to raise money for the charity. When I see a hero with the kind of sensitivity that can make such beautiful things, I know he will love completely. When Gracie shows up, he is sure that she is up to something. Because of a past problem with a woman trying to steal something from him, he is unwilling to trust her. But as he gets to know her, he can't believe she would do something like that. Meanwhile, Gracie is lost because of her lack of memory. She feels safe with him, and begins to fall in love with him. When her memory returns, there is a big confrontation with Gareth feeling betrayed and ordering her away. I liked the way things worked out, and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
3.5 stars. That's right, I started off 2020 with amnesia trope. What old school cheesy goodness. Gareth Wolff is pretty much an Edge Lord. He's isolated himself and broods over two instances in his life that caused pain. So fantastic! Gracie Darlington set out to talk to Gareth and falls right in front of him, losing her memory! Of course, Gracie can't go anywhere and has to recoup in Garreth's house (conveniently his brother is a doctor and his neighbor :-D. Her attraction to Garreth is often self-reprimanded in her inner dialogue :-o. As they wait for her memories to come back, their feelings change and they grow closer. The reason for her original visit is eventually remembered. Add a bit of drama and a short separation and there, my friends, is the recipe for a classic Harlequin.
More like 2.5 stars. I really didn't like the fact that he essentially made her hurt herself, got amnesia, then proceeded to sleep with her within 2 days of this. She remembers things and people, but nothing of her life or why she comes to meet him. It was all a little hinky for me. I understand that he was nursing a hurt over losing his mother when he was 6, and a nasty relationship a few years before this, but he was just a mean ass who needed to be bumped down a peg or two. He lashes out in the meanest way possible every time. Just not my idea of a good romance. I will continue on with the series, because they are about other characters.
D2135 Jan12 Men of Wolff Mt. Gracie Darlington and Gareth Wolff meet when she shows up at his door and he scares her. She backs away from him and falls off his porch and is knocked out. When she come to she has no memory of why she's wanted to see him.
This story had a great premise as well as likable characters. The author knows how to string readers along to keep them interested. Protagonist Grace falls victim to amnesia, but in the end, when the wolf comes knocking at her door, she finds there are some things she can never forget.
I'm a fan of Janice Maynard to begin with and find that she's a reliable writer for a good read, perhaps not amazing, but never bad. There will always be a scene or character that really stick in your memory too. This story has a great brooding hero (my favorite kind) and deals with amnesia. Amnesia is a great tool to employ in these shorter books. It allows you to steer clear things that might bog a story down. On the flip side, these shorter stories don't always allow for a lot of expansion.
Gareth Wolff is a reclusive millionaire whose tragic past and a more recent betrayal have forced him to live in solitude, never trusting anyone. Gracie Darlington shows up at Gareth's house on the secluded Wolff Mountain and her purpose is unknown. Gareth tries to scare her away but instead he scares her, making her fall off his porch. Gracie wakes up with amnesia and Gareth, though he doesn't trust her, feels obligated to take care of her until all is healed.
When I'm reading Harlequins I'm not looking for deep emotions, complex characters or intricate plots. I'm a tad bit lenient when rating and reviewing in general but I'd still rate a bad book poorly and a great book sufficiently. While nothing in this book was a standout I have no major complaints about the story, characters, writing or dialogue. There was a bit of cheesiness in the dialogue on some of the final pages but I'm seeing that more and more in romance books. Overall it was an entertaining read with a bit of emotion and if the story would have been longer/more complex I could see myself really loving Gareth.
A brooding reclusive billionaire and a damsel in distress...with amnesia? I couldn't resist. This was the kind of story where the whole "thing" could've been avoided if he'd just called 911 to begin with (she was a trespasser with a head injury!), but then what fun would that be?
A character with amnesia for 90% of the book, like Gracie, is tough, because I have to wonder if we're really seeing the "real" her. It seemed to work for this book. It was clear that Gareth was in a lot of pain, and Gracie had what it took to rescue him from his fortress of solitude. I know I've said it before - I *lurve* those emotionally vulnerable, tortured alpha males, and Gareth is a prime example. Did I mention that he's an artist too? *swoon*
Though some of the story was far-fetched, INTO HIS PRIVATE DOMAIN was an enjoyable and very sexy read, and a solid start to The Men of Wolff Mountain series.
When Gracie is sent up the mountain by her father on a mission to see Gareth Wolff, bad stuff starts happening. First Gracie had to climb all the way up the mountain, so she didn't get caught by security or get caught period before she could get to Gareth. Secondly when she knocks on the door and Gareth tells her to go away, she falls off the step and gets amnesia.
Now Gareth is stuck with Gracie and has no clue what to do with her but he will not under any circumstances admit that he has fallen in love with her. Even if he has.
It was a good read, the characters COULD be based off of people in real life, as well as the fact you can easily believe the story. It didn't seem fake, the emotions flowed.
I loved the whole series but this one was my favourite! One thing I found a bit strange was that the first three books cross referenced each other a lot, with character stories continuing dinner table interaction etc. The next three, didn't seem to do this as much which I found strange - since most of the cousins either lived on Wolff Mountain or visited a lot. Book 7 - tied up the story nicely.
I typically don't read amnesia story lines in books, this one was well written and managed to be fresh. The cover is the reason I bought this book and the concept of a "Wolff Mountain"(this is book one about the family living on their mountain). My only complaint was too many things happened to the heroine.
This one started out better than your average romance novel. The amnesia plot is typical, but Maynard's writing is good and I was hooked. Then it dissolves into a dysfunctional sex fest with the brood master and main character Gareth Wolff, who really should get some therapy. The heroine Gracie is weak and vapid. Can't really recommend this one.
This is the first book in 'The Men of wolff Mountain' series and I really liked it. The H had a tortured soul after childhood trauma. He feared he was unable to feel anything until the h showed up at his secluded home under suspicious circumstances.
slightly predictable. worst part was trying to hold the book in a position that was comfortable and yet still being able to read it. the words were so close to the inside bond that it made it difficult to hold.
Like this book a lot, the fact the Gareth allowed Gracie into his heart. But I wished there had been slightly more to the ending of when they got back together. And I'm always one for a good epilogue - while it worked how it was, it would of been nice!
Livro 1 da série "men of Wolff mountain".
I don't know it was okay, there was something about the first three chapters that didn't put me off as I finished the book and found I liked the last half MUCH better than the first.
Love this book. So far I love the whole series all the Wolff men and woman was good reads. Gareth I felt was the hardest to come around but with Gracie's love he found his way.
This was my first Janice Maynard book. I think I have found a new additional author of romantic strong women novels besides Linda Lael Miller. We will see
