Very enjoyable frontier adventure with a touch of romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the characters, learning about a time and place I was unfamiliar with. My only complaints are with the editing (spelling and grammar mistakes aplenty) and the somewhat clunky writing style. I feel like the author was going for a "historically accurate" speech pattern and it didn't succeed, in my opinion. All in all very entertaining older book. Would recommend.
River of Sky is a portrait of a young woman who overcomes many obstacles in order to take care of herself and her small son after her husband dies in Missouri 1835. The events that follow shape the woman she was meant to become. She defies the odds and takes over her husband's trading business, befriends her husband's Mandan wife, Blue Wing, tries to help the Mandan tribe, and eventually finds love again. If you like reading about how women overcome adversity, this book is for you. I found it inspiring and hopeful.
Pretty good story but not really my type of book - too typical romance. I only read 300 of the 440 pages - just skimmed over the last pages to figure out what happened.
Gave it up 1/4 of the way through. Just too slow going. The writer put in too many unnecessary sentences. Might have been a good story if more tightly written.
Have read a number of her books and the difference in them never ceases to amaze me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am now looking to see what other historical fictions she has written.
