As with most stories set in the Hammer universe, you don’t need to have read the others to enjoy this stand-alone installment. You only need to know that it is an exclusive private BDSM club. In this particular story a few characters from previous books are mentioned in passing but it’s not necessary to “know” who they are.
Christopher is at the Halloween party dressed as a lion tamer, hoping to find someone to play with. He’s told by another member that there is a little kitty sitting in the corner, and he find Travis huddled on a stool looking slightly terrified. When Christopher approaches him, he finds that Travis accompanied two friends when his date stood him up, and he’s never been to a BDSM club before, however Travis fishes around and determines that Travis may be interested in giving it a whirl.
There is then a sex scene where Christopher uses his whip on Travis which to be honest, despite the Hammer being BDSM, I find most of the action is pretty light. This is not hardcore by any means, however using the whip is usually more than the spankings or bondage most stories employ in this world, so I enjoyed something a bit out of the norm and Travis’ reactions to the whole experience were interesting.
Although you do get Travis’ perspective some, it seems he has been interested in the lifestyle and talks about being on-line and checking things out, you aren’t really sure that he wants to try it, or if this is just some kind of fascination, and he sees the whole things as just sort of a fantasy come to life for one night. The book ends with a presumed future for the two men.
There are lots of Sean Michael hallmarks here. Travis is your typical small fluttery twink who is a poor dance student. Christopher is apparently wealthy and looking for love and finds it nearly instantly upon seeing Travis. However there is a certain comfort to reading these books. There are no great surprises, but sometimes that’s exactly what you are in the mood for and this one delivers on that front with a slight twist in using a whip during the sex scene rather than some other tools which come up more commonly. If that’s what you are looking for then it’s a good choice.

Cute, short D/s-themed story about a lonely top, Chris, dressed up as a lion tamer at a Hammer Halloween party. Fittingly, he finds a shy kitten, sub Travis, to role play with. While Travis isn't very experienced, he is curious enough to give it a try and the result is some very hot sex. I liked the way the role playing was worked into the process of both men getting to know each other. At the end of the story there is enough of an interest on both sides for a hint of something more permanent.
If you're looking for a quick, hot read with moderate D/s undertones, this may be a short story you like.

Christopher a Dom meets Travis during a Halloween party at the Hammer. They do a scene together where Travis is introduced to Chris' whip. Ending suggests that they will start a relationship.

Lion Tamer is another chapter in the Hammer Club series by Sean Michael. Like the other Hammer Club stories, Lion Tamer is about the BDSM life-style. The focus of the story is an encounter between Christopher and Travis at the Hammer Club Halloween party. Christopher arrives masked and carrying a lion tamer's whip. While, Travis wears the costume of a black cat. Both men are looking for some action.
Michael's Hammer Club is a rich and decadent stage for the encounter between Dom Christopher and wannabe Sub, Travis. The owners of the club, Xavier and Marcus are recurring characters in the Hammer Club series. They and other club regulars tie the stories together.
Christopher is looking for someone to ply with his expert whipping skills and Travis is not sure what he wants, but he thinks he could like what Christopher is offering. Michael develops a nice chemistry between Christopher and Travis in Lion Tamer. There's a great deal of high-energy play between the two main characters, but the BDSM doesn't get too heavy. Michael has light touch with sensitive issues and character development. He reveals things about his characters using facial gestures and body language -- an uplifted eyebrow can imply many things.
Lion Tamer is a fun little tale with some playful sex scenes. It's worth 4 stars. Enjoy!

It is Halloween, and BDSM Master Christopher is a lion tamer who is on the prowl for a beast to tame. Instead of finding himself a lion, he meets Travis who is dressed as a kitten. The couple hit it off, dance together, and then Christopher takes Travis to one of the plush rooms in the back of the club. They have sex and Christopher introduces Travis to the whip.
This story did not have a BDSM feel at all, in my opinion. The so-called Dom was not in the least bit dominant. Instead of laying claim to his sub, he negotiated with him. The Dom also kept calling his sub “kitty”, which I think was supposed to seem endearing. To me, it was unrealistic and a major turn-off.
I didn’t get the impression that this story represented BDSM. At the very most, it was a roleplay scene. Even the sex had me yawning. The writing and editing are strong, but it’s definitely not my kind of story…and DEFINITELY not my kind of BDSM.

Hammer Club fan here so I’m happy to devour any little sip or big gulp I can get! I enjoyed this story between Christopher and the innocent (or maybe not as much as he might first appear) Travis. This involved one short scene that evolved from Halloween costumes into a little playing where Travis was introduced to the kiss of the whip. A fun play scene and nice to catch a glimpse of a few familiar “faces” too!!

A fairly typical Sean Micheal Hammer short, which is just the thing when I'm in the mood for one. I've got to be honest, I've pretty much forgotten the characters just a few days after reading, but there was a Dom with a whip and a novice twink with cat ears on he called kitty. That's probably all you need to know. There was hot sex with a bit of whipping.

I just happened to come up on this one just before Halloween so the timing was perfect. Travis is a cute kitty brought in by his friends and them abandoned. Christopher as come for the party. What happens next is a very cute hook up story with the potential for more.
