Working Out the Kinks

Rate this book
Making an appointment with his ex-girlfriend under a fake name, David buys himself one hour to get her attention. Hoping to apologize and remind her of their time together, he intends to do whatever he has to in order to make Meredith, a practicing Wiccan, forgive him for being idiot enough to have listened to those around him which meant choosing his political aspirations over love.

Meredith is resistant to let David anywhere near her heart again. Desperate, David plays all his trump cards and suggests a sexual magick ritual which incorporates the BDSM lifestyle he and Meredith used to experiment with. The methods he uses may be unconventional, like sensory deprivation and sensation play intended to build trust and to achieve altered states of consciousness. But David is more than willing to do whatever it takes if he can just get Meredith to agree.

Ever since she was young, Kiki Howell has loved to listen to a well-woven tale with real characters, inspired plots, and delightful resolutions. Kiki could spend hours lost in a book, and soon she knew that creating lives, loves, and losses with just words had to be the greatest thing that she could do. To that end, she pursued her study of literature and writing, earning a bachelor’s degree in English from Kent State University.
“After a long break having my boys, I finally just had to write again. And, as soon as I gave the stories the space, they entered it. It’s both awesome and humbling to find the words in my mind become characters on a page and create their lives.”
Kiki is a multi-published author residing in Northeast Ohio with her incredibly handsome and talented, singer/songwriter husband and two children.

Kiki has such a way of extracting deep feelings from her readers. She has such a handle on peoples emotions you would almost swear it was an otherworldly talent. Meredith is deeply hurt by what happened between her and David, her now ex-boyfriend. For his part, he realizes he let the best thing that ever happen to him get away from him because of outside peer pressure. I felt for both of these characters emotional struggles. Meredith for wanting, but letting go for what she feels, is best for him. David for wanting, but having to deal with the amount of hurt he caused the one woman who loved him beyond anything. Their journey of rediscovery was HOT, as well as tender and full of emotions. I enjoyed how Kiki captured the Wiccan elements and told them with much attention to detail. I, like David, am Roman Catholic but I have ALWAYS been fascinated by the occult and/or witch craft. Not until I was older did I realize it was more a religion (Wicca), a way of life that brings balance, peace, and harmony to all around. I love that after reading a story by Kiki I feel like, not only have I read a great story but I have learned something new about myself and a greater appreciation for all things Wiccan. On a scale from 1-10 I give Working Out The Kinks a 10. Ever since I read Torn Asunder, I knew miss Howell would be an author I would want to read over and over again. If you are looking for a great short story with actual feelings you can relate to and a love to hold on to and never let go of than this story is one you need to pick up on October 17,2011.

Meredith has a heart to mend, her own. After the love of her life David broke it the month before she doesn't want him anywhere near her or it again, but when he suddenly makes an appointment in her massage parlour to see her under a false name, all her plans fly right out the window. Her heart aches, and her love comes to surface again. But, there's no way she's going to make this easy for him.

David buys himself one hour to convince her how stupid he was for letting her go, and he's not taking no for an answer even if he has to play out one of Meredith's fantasies to persuade her, a kidnapping. Both from two different worlds, David decides to leave behind his conservative ways and join Meredith, a practicing Wiccan, for the rest of his life. He suggests they try a sexual magic ritual incorporating the BDSM lifestyle they both like to explore to prove to her how serious he is about her. Now if only he can get Meredith to agree...

Working Out The Kinks is a very sensual kinky little short that I enjoyed reading as the author incorporates her unique style of a realistic scenerio with paranormal elements. The intimacy, sex, and chemistry between the hero and heroine are scorching, and it'll leave you wanting more. Great read!

This was awesome it was a fun fast short read. The story behind it really hit home for me. David and Meredith had a long road full of choices that were made that shouldnt of been. But in th end it worked out the way it should. My only complaint was this book was tooo short and now I want More. Kiki really hits home lov nd redemption and following your own path not one set out for you. I have to say tho that it would be seriously sexy to be taken with out a choice. Thats All im saying. Awesome Job Kiki!

This book was great! There were things I didn't like though.
-there were some typos/errors that bothered me but that always happens with short stories like this.
-David crying was a turn off for me. I don't like men who cries, even if they're so in love with a woman that they're filled with emotions.

Overall, the fantasies were very well written. Kiki Howell did an amazing job with this story :)

Former lovers Meredith and David have been torn apart by his family and their judgements. After realizing how much he's lost when Meredith left, David is back and trying to make amends in this short story that doesn't scrimp on the heat.

A lot has happened between our couple before the story has even begun and the emotions for each are very chaotic as they try to work through sadness, anger, and disappointment in what happened to their relationship. So when David arrives and Meredith touches his bare skin it's no wonder the sexual flames flare with so many intense emotions in the air. The sexual interludes from there on are intense with a bit of BDSM involved.

Adding to an already intriguing premise is Meredith's being a practicing Wiccan. With David's political aspirations, it is this fact that ends their relationship. To get her back he's immersed himself in the world of magick, buying books and studying spells all to prove that he accepts her wholeheartedly. Aspects of certain rituals show up during their lovemaking and add to the intensity of the moment and show proof of their newfound connection.

As I said, this is an intriguing storyline that caught my attention from the start. The Wiccan aspects felt a bit overdone to me though and David's wholehearted acceptance felt a bit unbelievable. I know he's doing it to prove a point to her, but he seemed to throw away a lifetime of beliefs in favor of the Wiccan religion rather quickly after it being such an issue between them. I also didn't feel fully invested in their relationship. They definitely have a strong sexual connection, but I don't feel there's a deep romance between them and I think my feelings mostly come from the fact that the foundation of their relationship is unseen.

These small issues didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the story though. The storyline's creative and the sexual interludes are imaginative. All-in-all, reading this short story was an entertaining way to spend the afternoon and I recommend it to others looking for a little afternoon delight.
