Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do: The Textbook by Chris Kent

Rate this book
"Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do -- The TEXTBOOK" shows the overall picture of Jeet Kune Do as a method of self-discovery. Many books have been written about the techniques of martial arts. They deal with the basic tools of combat, such as punching, kicking and blocking. This "how to" approach is not enough to create a successful fighter. One may know how to punch and have adequate power, but without the proper timing the punch will never score. One may know how to kick, but without a feeling for the proper distance the kick will never land. One may be able to punch and kick, but without proper visual awarenss they might not see the opening when it occurs. The purpose of "Jeet Kune Do -- THE TEXTBOOK" is to explore those qualities and combative motions that make the tools work. It is qualities such as balance, precision, speed, awareness, distance and attitude that make the tools found in JKD work so well. The "how to" will always be important, but to be successful also takes the discovering of "why" and "when."Authors Chris Kent and Tim Tackett, world-renown for their decades of teaching Jeet Kune Do, lead you on a journey that will expose to the reader the various aspects of "the way of the intercepting fist" and allow them to see the overall picture.

The cover says “This was the art that Bruce Lee founded, taught, and used to electrify the martial arts world”. He electrified the martial arts world with his charisma and skill on the screen...not by doing this.

The illustrations weren’t all that well done, and the descriptions accompanying them weren’t always clear. The authors uses terms without explaining what they meant. There is a lot of white space.

A book written by some amateurs who haven't experienced a real Kickboxing and muay thai fight. This book is written by people who havent tried and tested their teaching in a real street fight. This book is a true essence of the term BullSHido !

I won't recommend this book .

It is a shame that even the basic kicking alignment was done awfully. This is a book written by someone who learned kickboxing by watching movies
