In love with the preacher’s daughter… Tabitha Dailey wishes she could be anywhere except rural Virginia as the church secretary for her father's congregation. She craves a life of adventure like the characters in the fantasy stories she secretly writes. She'll skip town the second she gets enough money and the right opportunity.
Wesley Roberts fell for the quiet red-haired beauty the moment he saw her. She’s different from the other women in town, and he can’t stay away. Unfortunately, Tabitha has ignored him and his attempts at friendship for the past two years.
When Wes gets the contract for the church addition, he and Tabitha are forced to work together. Once Wesley discovers her secret, their common interests bring them closer, but is she willing to give up her dream of travel and excitement or will his past tear them apart?
The ‘Always a Bridesmaid’ series will be by many different authors and each book can be read as a stand-alone. The stories are sweet, contemporary romances that bring two people together. I loved the characters, their interactions, and the ending of this book. The two main characters attend the same church. Tabitha Dailey is the pastor’s daughter, and also the church secretary, and Wesley Roberts has won the bid to build the addition to the church.
Tabitha has plans to leave the small rural community and move to a larger city, like Roanoke, and Wes has left city life and moved to Prescott Hill for a more peaceful life. Wes has had his eyes on Tabitha for a while, but due to her father, she doesn’t have a life that he doesn’t control. That is a huge reason she wants to get away—to be able to choose how to live her life. She isn’t exactly pleased with being stuck with working with Wesley on the addition.
Wesley: When I suggested to your father that you were essential to running the church. You didn’t seem to like it. Don’t forget this. I’m looking forward to working with you, Tabitha. Tabitha: Listen, farm boy, we may have to work together to get this addition built, but don’t go getting any ideas about us. You’ll do your thin, and I’ll do mine. Got it?
The story will have Tabitha and Wesley together often at church—and even running errands. Slowly, she sees that he isn’t all that bad but he wants to stay in Prescott Hill and she wants to get away from here. He will ask her to assist him with planning better for his house, needing ideas, color palettes, and inspiration. She is shocked when she sees what he calls a cabin—because it is a two-story, four-bedroom log home. When he is injured, she feels bad, and under the doctor’s orders, he needs someone to watch over him for at least forty-eight hours.
I love these slow-simmering, sweet romance stories and Ms. Kari Lemor’s story of Tabitha and Wesley was an enjoyable read. I liked how both Tabitha and Wesley worked together when she revealed the truth about her pen name and his artwork complimented her stories. But will a secret destroy them?
“I discovered something out of this world.”
“Was it time to compromise some of her life goals while still reaching others?”
Tabitha, Always a Bridesmaid by Kari Lemor is the 2nd book in the Last Man Standing series. Tabitha Dailey is the preacher’s conservative daughter who works as the church secretary but secretly wants to move to the city, explore the world and be an author. Wesley Roberts has admired Tabitha for years, but has received nothing in return since Tabitha wants to leave their small town. This all changes when he is hired as the contractor for the church addition and Tabitha can’t deny her growing feelings for Wes. Tabitha is faced with deciding between love that will keep her trapped in a small town or following her dreams, but losing Wes. Not only do Tabitha and Wes have incredible chemistry, but Lemor also illustrates the friendships of the supporting characters so well that you don’t want the book to end. Love how Lemor always gives the heroine her own dimensions rather than just waiting for prince charming to swoop in and rescue her.
