It is a hardcover book published in 1992 with 30 pages. But No Candy is the story of a young girl named Lee who loves to eating and savoring Hershey's chocolate bars from her daddy's general store, which her family lives above. She lives during World War II and suddenly there are no candy bars in the store because of government rationing. Lee's uncle Ted goes off to war for two years, and brings her home chocolate, but she can't eat it because she has changed inside and grown up.

Third grade +.

"While her Uncle Ted is off fighting World War II, Lee watches the candy gradually disappear from the shelves of her family's store and realizes that her entire world has changed."

Wonderful insights to the time period. Beautifully painted illustrations.
