As with many 20th century photographers, Ruth Bernhard was alternately an artist, a teacher, a lecturer, a surrealist, a realist, and many other things. Her work was praised by Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. She is a shining example to women photographers everywhere.
