Le vicende di questo quarto e ultimo libro di Light and Shadow, sono diverse e variegate come i temi che tratta. Una delle vicende più importanti e centrali, rimane ovviamente l'amore travagliato tra Alan e Keyd che, da parte di quest'ultimo, nasconde ancora delle insicurezze che albergano nella sua mente; frutto del passato indottrinamento di una società omofoba e che forse non se ne andranno mai del tutto. I nostri due sono perennemente sotto assedio da parte dell'aristocrazia dell'Oenclar, che disprezza la loro relazione; ma da parte di alcuni c'è anche una grande avidità di potere e paura di perderlo. La politica interna nasconde intrighi, tentativi di assassinio e sovversione che minacciano Keydestas e la poca stabilità di un popolo ancora impantanato in un conflitto di cui nessuno vede la fine. Oltre agli eserciti della fazione avversa e le pressioni interne, si presentano mali più primordiali: una malattia delle entità che devasta il corpo e avvelena il sangue, che tenta di ammazzare ogni speranza. I nostri personaggi devono affrontare molte avversità e interrogativi, come la natura stessa delle differenti entità dei due popoli in lotta, e cosa vuol dire essere uomini con dei propi ruoli scelti, inveche di ruoli che possiedono corpi, in questa conclusione di storia piena di colpi di scena, tribolazioni e vicissitudini della politica e della guerra. Tuttavia, c'è anche una grande voglia di vincere contro tutto, di vivere, di amare, di credere in qualcosa, di riscatto sociale. Personalmente ho adorato questa saga, che è diventata una delle mie storie preferite e anche a distanza di anni, mi ricordo con profondo affetto di Alan, Keyd, Rysa, Kir, Darban e tutti gli altri personaggi nel loro strano e disperato mondo che forse in futuro ( in altre ipotetiche storie ) potrà guarire e ricostruirsi.

OMG....I'm done so far and I want more! NOW! Such a cliffhanger at the end of this fourth book is going to kill me slowly and painfully if the fifth book isn't coming up soon!

I'm so curious what is going to happen....I hope for a HEA, but since there had been death and bad injuries among the main characters I suppose any outcome is possible.
But I'm so hoping for Alan and Keyd to make it together, to be together like they are meant to be.

And I want to know if the two opponent folks will become one again (in a good way).

This story is a masterpiece, the whole idea and the creation of the world(s) and folks are matchless!
Can't wait to read the next book!

Okay, that was long. Not necesarily a good thing about this story. I admit I skippped. I skipped quite often in the second half. The universe is really interesting, unique. However, the characters are not, sadly. Most of my issues were with Alan who seemed more and more Mary Sueish the further I got in the story. Annoyed the hell out of me.

The monster length didn't help either. I really hope the story gets a proper rewrite, gets shortened, it has potential. But there just isn't enough plot to fill the monster length.

WOW! I don't even know what to say. So much is happening here! I love, love, love the plot line. This is amazing. I am so glad I stumbled onto this series! This is an obsession that I am excited to have! Oh Keyd and Alan what will happen next???
