Cute little poems about the secret lives of pirates. I was rather distressed, though not surprised, to learn they enjoy going commando.

No wonder their timbers are always shivering.

You can't help but smile while reading this book! Each page starts with a question such as: What Do Pirates Eat, What Do Pirates Wear, Do Pirates Have Pets or Do Pirates Celebrate Birthdays? The author brilliantly answers these questions in short, fun rhymes. I always read this book using my best pirate accent. That, paired with the playful illustrations and silly questions always makes My daughter giggle the entire time.

Do Pirates Take Baths is a cute story about how pirates live. The book consists of a short poem on each page that is relevant to pirates lives! For example, do pirates have pets? What do pirates do? Do pirates work hard? The story is a cute and interesting story for young readers. The book is meant for parents and children to enjoy together. At the front of the book there is a note from the Editorial Director to parents. This note is to wish parents a laugh with their child as they read the silly truths about pirates and their hygeine. I like this book a lot because it is simple and enjoyable. The rhymes in the book are intersting and funny. This book could be used to introduce poetry to a young reader. It could prove as an example and allow the children to make a poem of their own about themselves and their own habits in comparison to the pirates.

Our library story time performers read this together -- one asking the question that appeared as a heading on each double page spread and the other answering, reading the verse reply. They led the children in actions depicting the key elements.

Caution: they did skip a few pages due to the length of the book and also at least one mom suggested we not share the page where it ways pirates don't wear underwear. While it IS funny, she said her little boy (who LOVES pirates) is very reluctant to wear underwear and the only reason he wears underwear is his mom assured him they DO wear underwear!

The author answers a series of questions about pirates, such as: What do pirates do? How do you get to be a pirate? What does a pirate wear?

The answers are given in short, amusing rhymes. My favorite is: Where do pirates sleep?

"On cozy hammocks way down in the hold,
they sway till the morning light.
They dream of their mothers as they gently drift
into the starry night."

Very cute illustrations.

Good choice for any collection of pirate picture books.

A fun one for pirate story time. The rhymes made the kids giggle, and I liked that you wouldn't necessarily have to read the whole thing. I think this would be good for preschoolers and elementary kids who loves pirates.

Everything you ever need to know but were afraid to ask about pirates! Do they have pets? Do they take baths? Do they have birthdays? Very fun little rhymes answer these and more questions.

Cute, funny, delightful illustrations.

I read the first page and both kids simutaneously said, "Let's not read this one."

Good book for Talk like a Pirate Day on September 19. Even with a few facts woven in; this book is definitely fiction. Pirates are portrayed as fun-loving and happy-go-lucky.

I read this aloud at a preschool storytime and for each question that was asked in the book, the kids had an answer. They also liked finding the details in the illustrations.

Kids thought it was fun when I read the book out loud but, for each section, read "(name of a kid in the class) the pirate" instead of just "pirates."

A piratey tale told in question and answer form. The answers rhyme and we delight young scalawags.
