Seventeen year old Emily, is invited to her Aunt Isabel and Uncle Joseph's home in New England for the summer, in return for making herself useful. Emily does succeed in making herself useful. However, because she possesses no social l or physical graces, she is not accepted by those her age in the quaint small town, It is only with the local produce man that Emily finds herself at ease around. It helps that Stefan has natural vitality and attraction. It is after a party, given by her aunt, that Emily must decide which direction to go. Does she go with Stefan or return home at the end of the summer
