What I learned from this book:

1. Dolphins make a TWEET! TWEET! TWEET! sound.
2. When a baby dolphin is born, the tail comes out first.
3. Dolphins are mammals.
4. The new baby must breathe air soon or he will drown.
5. The dolphin hits the water with its tail when it's danger.
6. When the dolphins hunt together for food, they are in a group called a pod.

This informational book about dolphins is great for younger kids with an interest in sea creatures. It is very simple, and provides information about dolphins in a story like manner. The book begins with a dolphin giving birth, and then tells the story of the baby dolphin growing up. It explains what dolphins eat, some of their habits, how they protect themselves, and more.

The book has very simple vocabulary, while introducing some new words specific to dolphins. The sentences are short and choppy and very easy to read. There are also quite a lot of onomatopoeia's used. The pictures are all mostly cool colors, and just more like sketches than anything.

I gave this book 4 stars. It is a beginner, easy-to-read book. With that in mind, it provides quite a bit of information about dolphins. I like the way they present the information as more of a story, because I think children would have more interest in the book that way. It might also be easier for some to understand.

Informative, accurate, and entertaining for children. My son was very worried about the safety of the baby dolphin and very interested in all the facts and talking points the book brought up.

I was going to rate it 4 stars, but my son said it was to good and insisted I raise it up to a 5. So I did. I guess my complaints would all revolve around it not being interesting to me, but maybe only because I already knew all the facts. In that light, I think it does deserve a 5.

Dolphins in nature.

This book gets credit for being scientifically accurate (for 1975) and having predation. But the art is even more boring than the story, which is a bit disappointing for something so life and death.

I don't regret reading this once, but it's already out in the little free library.

This book is brilliantly written, it is exciting, terrifying and informative (even I learnt a few things reading this to the kids). The pictures could be a lot better though, I really don’t think the artwork is at the same level as the writing, which is sad.

For kindergarten children, this is an excellent book to introduce children about dolphins. I would use this book in the classroom to inform children about information regarding dolphins, for example, where they are found and their scientific name. The book contains colorful illustrations of dolphins.
