Macy's Awakening

Rate this book
Can Macy and Jerrod overcome the differences in their age and race to find lasting love?

On Macy Wilson's first grown-up adventure to the big city, she inadvertently ends up in jail. Her father hires an old college friend, defense attorney Jerrod Preston, to get Macy out of trouble. Jerrod is more than willing to help out his buddy by representing the gorgeous young black woman, but finds he must first battle his intense attraction to her, especially when the judge puts Macy under his protective custody.

Still an innocent at the age of nineteen, Macy ignores the differences in their age and race and sees the opportunity to learn all about sex from the handsome older man. On her second night in his home, a naked midnight rendezvous at the hot tub proves too powerful for either to resist, and Macy is awakened to pleasure like nothing she could have imagined.

But the morning brings feelings of remorse on both their parts. Macy knows her father wouldn't approve, and Jerrod is convinced Macy should be with someone closer to her own age. They settle into an uneasy platonic relationship, both secretly longing for the love that now seems just beyond their grasp.

Then an unforeseen circumstance raises the stakes, and Macy must make the toughest decision of her life. When she lays claim to the man she can't forget, will Jerrod send her away, or dare to open his heart to love once more?

Description: When the nineteen-year-old bi-racial daughter of an old college buddy gets in trouble with the law (through no fault of her own), Jerrod Preston, a divorced forty-three-year-old attorney, steps in to help. He agrees to not only represent her but also give her a place to live for seven weeks until her court date (she lives in another city, but was in town for a wedding). What he doesn’t count on is Macy breathing fresh air into his otherwise stale life. But can they overcome the many obstacles getting in the way of the budding love and passion?

The Good: This was a definite page turner. The author sent me this novel for review, and I opened it up just to see if I’d consider reading it in full. But somehow I didn’t end up putting it down until the very last page. Ms. Anthony excels at sexual tension. And I loved the way she used awkwardness between her H/H to highlight it. Both characters felt very realistic, especially Macy, who unlike many other romance novel virgins worries about that things a real nineteen-year-old virgin would worry about, like smelling okay and being sexy enough to attract a man like Jerrod. This book feels like a very realistic portrayal of what would happen if a forty-three-year-old attorney fell in love with his nineteen-year-old client.

The Bad: I commend Ms. Anthony for her realistic portrayal and solid writing skills, and I will certainly seek out future works. However, I think many readers my age will find the 24 year age difference off-putting. Jerrod isn’t predatory, but Macy’s naiveté and innocence made me squeamish toward the beginning of their sexual relationship as opposed to completely on-board. This couple eventually proved themselves to be well-matched, but because of the age and life experience difference, it was hard to cheer for their HEA.

The Naughty: Erotic. Explicit language. Toys.

Editing issues: One typo found.

Publisher: Beachwalk Press

Length: 93 pages (estimated)

Final Grade: B

Happy Reading,

The short, fast pace makes it easy to read.

This was an okay storyline with a decent plot.

It would have been nice if it had been longer since the two characters clearly had chemistry.

During a dull day, you should read this book, it's something to pass the time.

Macy’s Awakening by Pepper Anthony is an endearing love story involving sophisticated , handsome, physically fit, defense attorney, Jerrod Preston. He falls in love with a gorgeous, petite, black woman 23 years his junior. Macy Wilson is a 19 year old college student on her first venture away from home. Intelligent, but very naive, she ends up in trouble with the law.

Macy and Jerrod meet through Macy’s father, Chuck Wilson. Chuck and Jerrod share a past as college friends. Chuck Wilson is an extremely successful owner of his own construction company. Chuck seeks Jerrod’s legal expertise and trusts him to help and protect Macy through this awful ordeal. Macy is in Jerrod’s hands in more ways than one.

Jerrod is recently divorced from the love of his life Arlene. Still suffering the loss of his family and trying to wrap his head around what went awry in his marriage of over fifteen years, he buries himself in his law practice. He has no hope of falling in love again or sharing his heart and home with another person. He keeps to himself, avoiding the many women in constant pursuit of him and his kindness.

Macy’s Awakening by Ms. Anthony is a tender, love story that crosses issues that plague our society: race and age, especially as it relates to a loving relationship.

Macy’s Awakening is just that, the coming of age of a beautiful, innocent, college student. Macy Wilson is so innocent that she is probably the oldest virgin among her friends and associates. Chuck Wilson, Macy’s dad, is very protective of his little girl and is not so thrilled about her being 300 miles away from home as she attempts to assert her independence during her summer break from college.

At the mall, Macy is not really paying attention to her surroundings and becomes a fall victim for a jewelry heist. Arrested and afraid out of her mind, she contacts her dad. Jerrod Preston, defense lawyer is retained to represent Macy. The judge releases Macy into her attorney’s custody until the case comes to trial. This is how Jerrod and Macy meet.

Jerrod is taken with Macy’s naivete, her beauty, and her intelligence. Jerrod owns a large home in the suburbs where he once lived with his beloved family. His home has a guest house, and all of the perks one could want. It is located outside of Portland in an exquisite community. Jerrod takes Macy home and shows her to the guest house which will be her temporary home. The guest house is a peaceful environment surrounded by a beautiful backyard with fragrant flowers and a hot tub.

On her first night as his guest, she is having difficulty handling the situation she is in with the law and her mind is restless. This anxiety leads Macy to the hot tub around midnight. She is unaware that Jerrod’s bedroom has a view of the garden and hot tub. As Macy attempt to unwind, she slips in the water and floats in the luxurious hot tub.

Jerrod’s body jumps to attention as he gazes upon Macy’s lovely, milk-chocolate, petite body: her perky breasts; semi-sweet colored nipples; beautiful legs and curves. This titillating view keeps him awake most of the night, no matter how hard he tries to resist replaying the vision of loveliness. Will he able to resist temptation and keep Macy out of his experienced hands and mouth?

The setting described by Ms. Anthony is one that captivates the reader with its peacefulness and the delicate aromas from the garden. Her descriptions of Portland sights and sounds tickle your senses.

The main and secondary characters are realistic. Ms Anthony draws you into the heartaches, the pleasures and the breathless sensual intimacies shared between Jerrod and Macy and those close to them. I love the manner in which Ms. Anthony has Macy and Jerrod dealing with the issues of Macy’s Awakening. Jerrod provides Macy with the sensations her body craves, which she has heard so much about from her friends. Macy and Jerrod are physically attracted to each other, but are hesitant to engage in the desires of their bodies and hearts. Leticia, Macy’s best friend, encourages Macy to dig deeply to understand her body’s reactions. Through Jerrod’s skillful seductive techniques (acquired through maturation and experimentation in the realm of sexuality), he awakens all of Macy’s hidden feelings and curiosities. Ms. Anthony depicts the thrills and chills Macy discovers and releases as she begins listening to her body.

The only thing that made me a bit uncomfortable was the huge age differences between Jerrod and Macy.
I delighted in the development of Ms. Anthony’s characters, settings, rising actions, intimacies and how the emotional conflicts were handled.

Macy’s Awakening is just that, an awakening on several levels and a beautiful love story. I am happy to have had the pleasure of experiencing Ms. Pepper Anthony’s work and look forward to reading more of her books.

The characters in the story are believable, and the sheltered naivete of Macy's innocence rings true as she lets go of her fears to embrace her new-found freedom. Although Jerrod is divorced with a daughter, at times his character seems younger as he lets Macy into his heart. I enjoyed the fact that although they fell into bed together relatively quickly, they then pulled back from the physical relationship and true intimacy grew as they lived together awaiting the end of Macy's case. They went from insta-lust to a true relationship tested by
time and separation. I also appreciated the way things ended for them and the epilogue was especially sweet.

Love

This is by far my favorite story from this author. Macy and Jared went through all the first awareness of attraction and rationalizing why it's wrong and yet giving in and all the back and forth. Age and race have been an obstacle. Love really brings the truth to light. Love is right.

maybe it me but I didn't get the explicit sex content out of this read, to me this read seem really overly romantic. basically younger heroine and older hero who's overcome everyday life issues and challenges.

This was a nice, short read. Jerrod was a good man, Macy – sweet and innocent. I enjoyed the development of their relationship as Macy realized her sexuality and matured from girl to woman.

A sweet HEA.

I would have liked this book better if the hero wasn't having an inappropriate relationship with the heroine. The age difference wasn't the issue, the fact he was her lawyer was.

It was mediocre at best. Good plot but a little too explicit wording ( ie. cock and pu$$#) for my tastes.
