Asher Daniox was an anomaly. Feared and worshiped by her kind for a power previously unheard of, the princess of the Fae Realm sought nothing more than to prove she could rule with a just and strong hand. That she was worthy of the title of Queen.
Yet, as her impending marriage to a young mortal prince draws nearer, she finds herself dreaming of a different life. One ruled by her own wants and needs. But, with a power as dangerous as hers, would she do more harm than good if left unchecked? And if she does not find allies in the mortals, how will the fae survive the savage demons to the West?
When a handsome stranger urges Asher to question her world and those within it – to trust the power she feared for so long – the princess is forced to reevaluate her life, and to continuously put it in jeopardy. Will she follow the orders of the king and queen who raised her – who always knew best? Or will she follow her heart, which might lead her to a fate she cannot survive?
As lies, betrayals, and danger find her at every corner, Asher must make a choice. For if she does not, the imminent war will.
Brea has been obsessively reading since she was six years old, consuming any and all books she could get her hands on. Thus sparked the dream of creating something similar – a book that would make readers cry and laugh and smile and feel all those big emotions that she did. At nine-years-old, she wrote her first book. Over the years she would write many more, but it was not until Of Night and Blood that she finally felt the book she dreamed of writing had come to life. Since then, she has poured her soul into many more stories and has found herself in the process.
She spends her time advocating for human rights, drinking too much coffee, chasing around her children, and ordering new books for her endless TBR. She lives in the United States with her family
REREAD February 2024 5 Lost Returned Dagger Stars ⭐ Spicy Level: 🌶️/5
I still love, adore and am obsessed with this book and the characters and everything Bellamy and Asher.
The only thing to add is the missing trope summary from my previous review: ▶ Instalust to Enemies to Lovers ▶ Fae X Demons ▶ Found Family ▶ Trauma Bonding ▶ Shadow Daddy ▶ Who Did This To You ▶ Touch Her You Die ▶ HE DOES HER HAIR
AND THE NOTE THAT THE DAGGER IS NOW NOT LOST!
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5 Lost Dagger Stars ⭐ Spicy Level: 🌶️/5
This book is the type of book that you can't help but be sucked into and be enamoured by. With the multi-level layers of intricacies the story holds, it ends up as something that is both simultaneously gut-wrenching but also undeniably beautiful. At face value, it is a Fantasy that does draw on some standard tropes that are common in the genre.
However when you look deeper into the writing, a hauntingly elegant written story unfolds that is a traumatic and undeniably emotional journey. It is this aspect that made the book unforgettable.
This book follows Asher, who is the ward of the King and Queen of the Fae. Asher is bound by an overly loyal sense of duty and responsibility for her kingdom and her people, but she really craves love and acceptance. She hopes to be worthy and not feared. In so doing, she often lets her own feelings, aspirations, needs, wants, and dreams be left to the wayside to please those around her. Very quickly, though, Bellamy comes into her life and soon Asher is faced with questioning everything that she knows, the history that she's been told to believe. The motives of the family that has raised her and what her actual place in the world is.
If you LOVE a story that is primarily character-driven, you will love this as much as I did! I felt there wasn't as big of a plot focus as most of the story is dedicated to Asher's growth. She is undeniably real and very easy to relate to. Her growth as an individual is just beautifully commendable and captivating that I could not put this book down. I must warn you that her story is not an easy one to read, it's dark and painful. My heart broke for Asher and what she has to deal with.
The world-building in this is something to be commended on. There is a unique magic system, warring kingdoms with political intrigue. A rich complex but well-built history, a compelling world and FAE and DEMONS!
From a romance point of view, it was strange that this was the first time something I normally consider a book ick - "Instalove" (especially on Bellamy's part), was used as a plot element. There is this almost infatuation where he is utterly devoted to her and the reader is spectacularly taunted as to why. My advice is if you're like me and do not particularly like instalove, do not let the first 20% of the book dissuade you from reading the rest of the book. This sets the foundation for what is a really magnificent slow-burn romance. One where you will find yourself just as captivated with Bell as he is with Asher...
I also absolutely adored the side characters in this as well and how they all add to the development of a found family. Not only is there banter between Asher and Bellamy but with most of the characters she meets. I honestly felt like I knew each and every one of these characters, that is how well-developed, well-rounded and complete each of them felt.
Overall this was a wonderful debut from Brea Lamb, that I do not think anyone will not enjoy when they pick it up!!! AND GOSH...the number of thoughts, feelings and speculations I have reeling in my mind at the end of this has me begging for book 2 already and this one isn't fully released!
Of Night and Blood releases 1 May 2023!
Thank you Brea for an eARC in exchange for a review! All thoughts and feelings are my own
I enjoyed reading this sooo much! I can't wait until more of you read this. I know all of you SJM, Jenn Armentrout, Danielle Jensen, and Elise Kova fans will devour this book. Ash's story starts with her living in a palace as a Princess with her adoptive parents who are also the Queen and King of the Fae Realm. She has the ability to see into and control other people's minds. For this reason, she's always been seen as dangerous and/or a weapon.
Her adoptive parents have convinced her that everything they do for and to her are for her own good. Ash is betrothed to a young human man who's only ambition is to marry Ash, so that he can gain a crown and the ability to live as long as she does, centuries.

"I love you, Asher Daniox. You are the breath in my lungs and the beat of my heart. And I am yours. I was yours yesterday, I am yours today, and I will be yours every day after… "
An orphaned heroine, a mysterious stranger and the greatest of betrayals…
Asher has lost her parents as a child and was raised by The king and the queen to be the heir of the kingdom. She is forced to marry a mortal king she hates for the sake of the realm, when she meets a handsome stranger on the night of her ball, she is immediately drawn to him and to the possibility of having a choice in her future, but the danger lurks and the people who wants to use her for her powers won’t let that happen.
Tropes: ⚔️ Enemies to lovers ⚔️ Banter ⚔️ Abuse and gaslight*ng ⚔️ Betrayal ⚔️ fae x demons ⚔️ She can read minds ⚔️ He can wield shadows ⚔️ He falls first
This had a solid plot, interesting characters most of who have ulterior motives and a good representation of depression, psychological and physical ab*se and feminine rage. The story grabs our attention from the first page, and leaves us to want to know more. Asher is yet to discover the extent of her powers, the true events that left her orphaned and her enemies motives. I can’t wait to continue the series and read more of Asher and Bellamy’s story!!!
This, unfortunately, was a DNF. I got through 36% of the book before I had to call it quits. The story itself and the thought behind it was amazing and I was excited to see what journey the author took us on. The powers that the fae and other beings could hold is really cool (the readers were my favourite)!! The first thing that turned me off from the book was how fast Asher and Bellamy met. With the quickness of them meeting, it meant we weren’t given a ton of info about Asher and her adoptive family. I feel like if were given more context about the thoughts and feelings surrounding that familial relationship AND seen more communication between them, it would’ve made things make more sense along the way. There was such minimal character building and it was evident. Bellamy’s identity did not surprise me at all and I wish the author didn’t give us as many clues in the first quarter of the book before the reveal, to give us a jaw dropping surprise. The second thing that put me off was how dim Asher is. First of all, her power is insane, and she has the ability to be an incredible heroine, but she doesn’t act like it. I wish she stepped more into her boss ass b era and showcased that she shouldn’t be messed with more often. I also HATED how she kept saying Bellamy manipulated and betrayed her and that all she’d get from him is lies and deceit. Like what??? He literally saved your life, he never lied to you, and he vowed to you that he meant no harm to you. Just, how she perceived him made me so mad that I couldn’t even finish the book because she kept making me want to reach through the pages and strangle her 😭

I’m always nervous when I start a book that’s been on my tbr for a long time. And I really shouldn’t be, because I always end up loving them. Of Night And Blood was no exception. The first 50/100 pages were a little hard for me to get into—but as all fantasy readers know, there’s always a lot of worldbuilding to understand in the first part. After that? I literally couldn’t stop reading. From the first page, I had about a million (ok, five or six) theories, and I continued to add more the further I read. In true fae fashion, there’s plenty of twists and turns, including a cliffhanger that almost made my jaw hit the floor (I was that shocked). Brea’s foreshadowing is AMAZING, with so many little hints and tidbits of information that even now I’m still realising what they actually meant. I feel like there’s going to be so much going on in book two, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for my favourite characters. Speaking of characters... Asher, our protagonist, is morally grey, a little unreliable, and slightly grumpy. Obviously, I adore her. I just wanted to wrap her up in a blanket and hug her for most of the book, because my poor girl has been through enough already. We also have Bellamy, love interest, king of swoon-worthy lines, and the newest addition to my book bf list. Everything he said had me smiling, blushing, and wishing I was Asher. For the other characters, Henry (my favourite carrot-top) and Noe were definitely my favourites. The found family in this book felt so comforting, and the friendships Asher is beginning to have with them? It’s precious. I just know book two is going to be just as good (if not better) and I literally cannot wait to read it. Until then...I guess I’ll just spend my time perfecting my theories and rereading my favourite quotes.

If this isn’t on your TBR, I WILL resort to threats and make you add it
Don’t go into this book expecting any kind of answers. The pacing is day by day. I assume the reader is meant to learn everything along with…along with…I can’t even remember the fmc name. I had to stop reading at 93%. They go on a 40+ day long journey without any explanation as to what happens when they reach their destination or why they’re even traveling in the first place. Then all the sudden they’re in love? I thought she wanted nothing to do with the guy but now they’re dropping the L word all over the place. I learned nothing about these characters in the 400 pages of this book
unfortunately this is a DNF for me. while this has promise, the insta-lust was really hard to get past, and i do not feel connected to the characters. i can see why people like it, but i don’t have the will-power to continue after 25%.
"You are not alone, Asher. I am here. I do not care what I said before. Any piece of yourself that you will give, I will take with honor. I will treasure you, hold you, and support you. My heart belongs to you, Princess. Never will you be alone again," he said, his voice a doting whisper.
🌟 TROPES & THEMES 🌟 ✔️ Healing Journey ✔️ Demons vs Fae ✔️ Found Family ✔️ “Princess” ✔️ Morally Grey Characters ✔️ World/Story Building ✔️ The Most Stunning Map 👀 ✔️ Flawed but Growing Characters ✔️ Unique Magic System ✔️ “Who Did That To You” ✔️ Heavy Themes
Firstly, let me just say, I am FERAL for a healing journey story. FERAL. And Brea gave us just that with Asher. “I am no one’s but my own.” Was a key phrase through the story as we watched Asher progress.
Asher is absolutely a flawed, incredibly layered character. She’s been through things that have altered her completely and shaped her into who she is at the beginning of the story. Brea so beautifully captured Asher’s stages of growth throughout this entire book - and by the end I just wanted to reach through the pages and give her a big hug and say, “you did it, Ash! You did it baby girl, you’re HEALING!” It was honest, raw, and I loved reading about her.
Bellamy. Oh my stars, BELLAMY. 🫠🫠 I don’t usually vibe with instalove/lust but by page 30 I was INLOVE. Now pause. Let me say this… this book is instalove. But not really. 🤣 I know, wtf has Linds lost her marbles? No, sis. We start with some 🥵 tension, then BOOM! Slow burn the rest of the way. And I LOVED it.
Trust me when I say, trust the process. Okay? Just trust. Remember ACOMAF? Rhys? The OTHER side of the story? Hmm?? Yeah. Just trust the process is all I’m saying. 😇
Bellamy was so unique, I loved his hot/cold feelings, the fits he’d throw when he got angry. Dimples and eye crinkles. His mouth and the things he’d say. Basically one of my new book boyfriends. 🤣
This story is very character driven - but there is also plot development!! We get to explore the world and truly see just how much love and work Brea put into this blossoming series.
There was some 🌶️ bits, and it was written SO WELL. 🤌🏽🤌🏽 the ending had me SHOOKETH.
Y’all I’m not even playing I was reading this book during a concert, ok? THAT IS HOW HOOKED I WAS. 🫠 I’m sorry Crywolf, I couldn’t help myself.
I’m so fired up for the next installment, omg. I cannot wait to go back and reread and catch bits that I didn’t see the first time. Don’t sleep on this epic start to a fantasy romance story!! And if you also are a lover for a healing/finding yourself journey - grab this book asap!!
Okay, SWOON! I will tell you right now: If you like ACOTAR or The Cruel Prince, you’ll definitely want to try Of Night and Blood!
This book gives us a strong female character, Asher, a swoon-worthy love interest, and an incredible world you’ll want to dive headfirst into.
I want to praise the awesome character-building of the book’s main character, Asher. Talk about a strong female character! I LOVED her! She was opinionated, intelligent, beautiful yet relatable, and one of my all-time favorite book characters. Her love interest, Bellamy, wasn’t too bad, either. And their romance is definitely swoon-worthy.
The book has a low to mid-spice level. I’m not a huge fan of spice, but this personal preference will not affect my rating of the book, which is 4.8/5 stars.
The worldbuilding is phenomenal, with clever usage of magic and explaining the mechanics clearly and engagingly. The imagery and romance are beautiful, and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat! The only reason I didn’t rate this at a full 5 stars is because some choices the characters made didn’t make sense in the moment, and some of the book formatting could have been better. But the fantastic writing and overall story make up for it!
I both love and hate it. I can’t believe the secrets uncovered at the end! BUT Asher freaking irritated the Shittake mushrooms out of me this entire time playing the “woe is me” role and not growing into her strengths as much as she should have. Bell is swoony BUT the instalove he has for her just because it was seen has me miffed because he doesn’t really go on the journey of love I’d expect of him.
My favorite part in this is the found family Asher has here. Each person has such a special story, one with tragedy but also with love and joy. The Haven sounds like such a beautiful place that I hope Asher comes to realize how important peace like that is.
Asher really needs to grow a lot in the next book for me. I was sick of her always feeling morose and feeling alone. I get that that was a major focus of the story and it’s a very important one, but I feel it was dragged on way too long especially after she has hints after hints proving to her that her former life is one of betrayal.
Still trying to sort my feelings out and gauge what feels off about this. I didn’t hate it. I think it has potential but I’m not in love with it and I can’t quite put my finger on it yet.
While I enjoyed this book… I enjoyed it as much as every “underestimated woman endures a challenging past but gets taken by the villain who she later learns loves her and actually saved her but now the true villain wants her back” book. So hoping book 2 uncovers a glittering unique twist to the plot.
How do I even start to express how much I love this book! The world, characters, plot literally everything about this world that Brea has created cements this book as one of my all time favourite reads. The writing is absolutely beautiful, Brea has a way of pulling you in and creates the most compelling story of art in word form that pulls every emotion possible and shows us the beauty even in pain.
”I would have done it, Asher. I would kill them all to save you, make no mistake. For you, I would be the Villian.”
Asher is my soul character and will forever hold a special place in my heart. Her story is utterly heartbreaking and the way Brea writes mental health is so so relatable there were moments that I had to stop and just take a moment. Asher for me is so relatable her inner thoughts, feelings and just her healing journey just makes me feel seen. I love this character with all my heart.
”I was no one’s but my own. I was not a prize to be won or a gift to be given.”
Bellamy is so well written and his utter devotion to Asher is beautiful I mean he BRAIDED HER HAIR!! The tension, tenderness and how he completely sees Asher for who she really is. I love a shadow mmc but Bellamy is hands down one of my favourites.
”You mean everything, Asher. Everything. You are the beginning and the end and every moment in between.”
I’m so in awe of this story and the world that Brea has created, from the plot, side characters, world building, a beautiful slow burning romance and without a doubt the mental health rep. I can’t wait to devour book two but I am preparing myself for the pain that will probably come. Please please read The Coveted Series.
This is a masterpiece of a debut. Brea weaved such a beautiful story of a young woman who has never had the privilege of choosing for herself. Through Asher’s life she was brainwashed and fed so many lies that I felt a deep connection to her history. When she decided that she belongs to no one, and starts to take back her life, I loved seeing that side of her.
Bellamy, freaking SWOON. I highlighted SO MUCH from this book. I loved their banter and I really enjoyed Asher giving him a hard time. She’s not going to let him in easy. He’s going to work for it AS👏🏻HE👏🏻SHOULD! 😂 So you go girl, make him beg.
Found family/sisterhood - I really liked seeing Asher settle in and having that girl time w Noe. I think every person who feels like Asher needs someone like her in their lives. The banter Asher has w Henry had me freaking rolling lol.
👑Queen Brea is an AMAZING author and I am so grateful I found this book because Asher is my girl. Thank you Brea for creating this beautiful world for us. You are magnificent and I am rooting for you to dominate this world w your series!
I love Asher. She is unlike any other female character; intelligent with deadly power and no typical female main character dialogues or actions. I really love her. However, I cringed a few times at Bellamy's character. He is broody but lovey-dovey toward Asher. Despite this, I like him because he wasnt that typical dark, cold and handsome MMC.
But there’s something about the plot I can’t ignore. When Asher was kidnapped, instead of being angry, despairing, or using her power to escape, she asked to be trained by her captor as soon as she woke up. That didn’t make sense to me. Additionally, the wishy-washy, long detailed paragraphs between dialogues were distracting. I kept forgetting the dialogue because of this and ended up skimming through those parts, yet I still understood the story.
I was really excited when I started reading this book, but bit by bit lost interest with how the story unfolded.
The twist at the end, I didn’t see that coming, haha. This book is a cliffhanger, but I'm not sure if I should read the second book or not.

Read if you enjoy BIG magic, royals battling it out, a bit of a slow burn (he falls first, HARD), found family, fashion, MMC with dimples, MFC who is battling herself but must be the HERO, and sarcasm.
OFAB has a very special cast of characters you absolutely fall in love with. With lots of humor, violence and a plot that will keep you wanting more.
The depth that the author writes these character's emotions, the magic, the royal hierarchy, and lore that is building The Coveted world has everything I need in a Fantasy romance series.
Asher's the MFC voice comes from a place of hurt, and doubt. She is learning to trust herself but always knowing she has to fight for OTHERS...who the "right" others is adds to the plot lol.
"I believe we all are afraid sometimes. Of others and ourselves. No one is completely sure of themself, but your doubt will prevent you from becoming what you were destined to be."
No. Just no. At first I thought it was going to be okay. But the amount of times I had to set this book down because it gave me the ick was so much. I was generous and gave two stars because the IDEA is there. But there’s just so much that I cannot stand. And it also really pissed me off that there wasn’t a single contraction in the whole book. Who takes the time to say “I do not understand.” No.
Update: I’m changing my rating to one star. I’m still pissed about the refusal to use contractions.
DNF at 30% I was so excited to read this book and my happiness slowly faded away..
He saved her numerous times, he is sweet to her, he tries to help her, he supports her. They kiss.. they almost make love. He save her from her fiancé by unaliving him..
She: “Will you ki// me next? Is that why you took me?”
Wtf

What I absolutely loved, because of its rareness in that genre, was the heroine to be old. God damn old with nearly 200 years. And it was so refreshing. Asher is no Damsel in distress, no virgin maiden, who gets the world explained by a man. She is a badass, a fucking queen and finally the fierce heroine, a good fantasy story deserves. I would even go as far as saying she is my most favorite FMC of All time. Because that woman got depth! And her presentation of mental illness and showing how Our heroine can be strong even while suffering from it...I can not emphasise how good the author did her.
The pace was fast, really fast. But it matches the story so wonderful, it never felt rushed. The romance had a different dynamic than usual and if you are looking for a heartwrenching story, where he falls first and harder, here you go.
I loved the world building, the fantasy, the tension and the turns. And that big cliffhanger and the end, which was a bit diguised but promised a big turn in book two. I simply loved reading this book and can only recommend it with all my heart.
“I am not a pawn, a toy, or a pet. I am not just some princess waiting to be carried off or a female begging to be rescued” ASHER👏🏼 DANIOX👏🏼
I am completely obsessed with this book. From the moment I started reading I was drawn in. Asher’s character is unique, badass, she is no one’s but her owns, and is ready to fight for those she loves at any moment. I felt for her in so many ways and her feminine rage was everything.
“Did I not say that no one touches my princess? he growled”
Bellamyyyy this man! I freaking loved Bellamy from the moment he made his way into Asher’s castle. He’s mysterious, powerful, cares deeply for his people, and doesn’t put up with anyone’s sh*t 😂. The banter between him and Asher had me kicking my feet laughing lol
There are also many lovable side characters! Henry and Noe being two of my favorites 🥹. Also, Brea, I swear you put crack in this book because the way I devoured it and was constantly thinking about it was probably unhealthy 😂. There is just so much amazingness to this book and story. I cannot wait to devour book 2 Of Realms and Chaos!!🖤🤍
love loved this!! the characters, magic, and world were all so fun and interesting and there’s still so much mystery surrounding so many of the characters / what side is good v bad.
so so many magical creatures (fae, demons, raiths, sirens), elemental magic system, royal courts, political intrigue, fae & human v demon war, potential lost / stolen heirs (that epilogue had me like wtf!!) ??
your literal next book boyfriend is in this book, pls everyone come read and experience Bellamy - cheeky & sneaky & hot
there was so much potential in this book. the training, the badass moments. it was so good. but i felt like it was all overshadowed by the romance. the romance wasn’t particularly good, otherwise it wouldn’t have felt too much like an overshadow.
an easy and fairly fast paced read though, so i can’t complain too much.
I received an ARC of the republished version and let me tell you, this book is dark and tramatic and so so good!
There is not much action and its starts off slow but it's all completely necessary. Asher is powerful but broken and I can't wait to see how she heals.
This book is very heavy so definitely tread lightly.
Wowzers. I am speechless. Asher is such a phenomenal character. This book deals with some heavy themes and being alongside while Asher realizes the gravity of her experiences and truly comes into her own is so inspiring. The world building is well done, however, it is clear there is so much more to learn about what is truly going on in this world.(Book 2!!!) I also absolutely loved the found family story line in this book. The cast of characters is perfection and their devotion to Asher, building her up and helping her heal is so fulfilling. I honestly am so excited to continue to see how this story builds.

Favorite Quotes: “I am not a pawn, a toy, or a pet. I am not just some princess waiting to be carried off or a female begging to be rescued,”
“Only fools deny and ignore something as inescapable as fear, Ash,” he would state. “What really matters is how you take that fear and overcome it.”
“We were the worst kind of evil. The beautiful kind that inspired hope in others, then ripped it from them and brought only death. The kind of evil that had to fight itself every day.”
Thank you to the author and Enchanted Pages PR for providing a review copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
Did you want to read a book about walking through the woods for 85% of the book, with an incredibly immature and dull FMC? What about cringy amounts of banter constantly? Instant love? Sprinkle in a little bit of absolutely zero plot development and you’ve got this bundle of words.
I am ruined, I am wrecked, I am sobbing, I am done.
If you enjoy dark romantasy this is a MUST read. Brea beautifully tackles difficult topics such as mental health, and familial abuse. The found family story that underlines everything dark in this book absolutely shattered my heart. This book is so poignantly written and every line will make a tiny stab at your heart. Asher is one of my favourite romantasy FMC’s I’ve ever read - she has experienced some of the most horrible things life has to offer and is so resilient and just badass. Bellamy is the spicy shadow daddy we all want tbh.
I can’t say enough about how much I adored this book, this cast of characters, and this story.
