It's good but not a good intro for Kenyan history or the mau mau uprising. Pretty confusing if u don't know much abt it but seems like it would be great for ppl interested and informed on the subject lol

Interesting account of the end of British colonialism and the internment, imprisonment and treatment of one of the "hard-core Mau Mau" nationalists. The application of revolutionary tactics, counter-revolutionary programs and the problems ahead for a changed country.

I know, since having recommended this book to wazungu in the US, that a good deal of my appreciation of this book was due to the fact that I read it in Kariuki's Kenya while he was still alive. Still, it is an important record of the pre-Independence turmoil in Kenya. And I still remember how he was able to find humor in his brutal imprisonment by the British.

A first hand account of one of those who fought for Kenyan independence from Britain.
