Shield City is infested with gangs, murder rates are high, and robberies are everyday occurrences. The criminals seem to outnumber the police. This story follows a 14-year-old adolescent named Clyde Watts. Clyde is timid and hates fighting. Though he has a lot of potential, he has been targeted by bullies all his life. One fateful afternoon, after his first less-than-successful day at high school, Clyde witnesses a truck accident caused by a school gang. After the accident, Clyde and an unspecified number of people are granted superhuman abilities. Clyde soon realizes he is the only one who can stop these mutants and restore normalcy to the city, even though he hates fighting. With these new powers, he must put a stop to everyday crime, keep mutants from terrorizing the city, and deal with a madman who wants to take advantage of the mutant uprising and overtake the city for his own agenda. Will the timid Clyde be able to deal with all this stress, or will all this new responsibility drive him over the edge?
