A very well-written, interesting and informative account of the area and probably the best one I've read to-date. It was published in 1987, and a lot has changed since then, but the information on the various landmarks, walks and places of interest remains relevant, as does the history (though I do wonder what he would have to say about the amount of traffic today, bearing in mind he thought Hereford had 'considerable traffic problems' in 1987!). There are no photographs, but the pen and wash illustrations by John Wilford have a timeless quality and sum up the area beautifully. Recommended to anyone who knows and loves this part of the world, or who is planning to visit it and would like to learn more about the area. I picked my copy up in a local charity shop for £2, but there are loads online for under a fiver. Well worth the money for anyone who loves the Wye Valley.
