Angela is a renowned assassin "only" known by the name "the Teflon Queen". Her lethal grace, steady shot, and unmatched accuracy have made her the absolute best and most sought after killer in the game. But when the killer without a conscience is faced with an unknown emotion.... LOVE. Her whole perception is thrown off course and in a profession where second guessing can mean life or death ....will the queen reign supreme or be overthrown?
Pros: There's always something going on so there's no lag.
Cons: Oh, where to begin?
Gripe #1: The author is so repetitive. It's like he'll write the first line, immediately forget what he said, and then write it again.
She loved James with all of her heart, but she hated what he did for a living. The love she had for him made her overlook what he did for a living.
Also, unless your story is about a bunny rabbit, you do not need to use the word "hopped" 111 times in your book. Don't know another word for hopped? That's what a thesaurus is for.
Gripe #2: Lack of common sense. An FBI agent working deep under cover on a dangerous assignment does not tell a woman he just met for the first time, "I work for the Feds." And when the drug kingpin is finally busted, anyone with half a brain does not say to the suspect, "Meet the undercover agent who helped take you down." Nor do you put the undercover agent on television and give him an award. No. No. No.
Gripe #3: This book needs a glossary for those of us without street cred. I had to ask around to find out what a "dap" and a "hooptie" is. (The last word caused even more confusion as I couldn't make myself be understood. I was pronouncing it as it was spelled: hoop-tie.)
I love this book full of action from beginning to end. I love Silk's style of writing and i love his books. This is a good read if u haven't read plz do so.
First let me say that the storyline was bananas! I loved it! It was definitely a page turner but every time I turned the page I saw horrible grammatical errors that truly messed up the flow of this book. The book was terribly edited as if spell check was never even used. The author continuously misspelled words that should have been easy to spell or picked up in a spell check.
With a storyline this fierce, the grammatical errors should not have even existed. It took away a lot from the book. If it weren't for the errors it definitely could have been a four star book.
Silk you are such an amazing writer. Teflon Queen is so good!! I read it in about 3-4 hours. I love books that I can't put down and sacrifice sleep for. You have done it yet again and I am so proud of you!!! Keep knocking out these fabulous books of yours. I'm already a life fan. Till the next amazing story!!! ~M~
i really enjoyed this story and the characters were crazy as i know the author would have done and it was a few errors but nothing that took away from his message of the story.
OMG This book was on point from the first page. One of my husbands friends gave me this book and told me it was great and she wasn't lying. Angela was a straight beast with a gun. Capo was a straight up hard headed person. I loved this book. I'm going to end this review like this because I will tell the whole story. Great read 5 star banger.
I am not the target audience for this work. Given my inability to look beyond constant structural, grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors to a tortured story line, this "Run, Jane, Run" level story didn't make it past the third chapter with me.
This book was a great book it wasnt predictable like most books ive been reading. I feel in love with all the characters exspecially capo for some reason but i sure will be reading part 2.
I finished this book and if I could give it zero stars I would. The fact that it doesn't end and is a continuation is the least of its problems.
The writing is astrocious. The author needs to take a good writing course and learn grammar and the fundamentals of the novel. This book reads like he has never read anything in his life. The constant repetition of words in the same paragraph is annoying, indicating the writer doesn't know what he is doing. He seems to have a particular love for the word "smirk". Does he have a thesauraus?
The plot is ridiculous. What undercover FBI agent meets a woman and in five minutes is telling her he is an undercover agent? What undercover FBI agent accepts an award on TV after a major bust? Wouldn't that blow his cover for future jobs? Silk White has to do his homework so his books have a ring of realism.
The dialogue presents another issue. Do lawyers talk like drug dealers? They do in this book. In fact, there is only voice. The characters all speak the same, using the same slang and vocabulary regardless of who they are.
This is my first foray into the urban literature genre and if this book is standard fare it will soon be relegated to the dust bins of the literary world.
I received this book for free from Amazon.com. Angela is known only as The Teflon Queen. She is a highly skilled assassin. Her boss calls her Number 2 because she's the second best assassin he uses.
She's hired by Wayne who is a drug dealer who uses thugs like Capo, Moose, Big Moe, or Bone to enforce any problem situations. They spray bullets & don't seem concerned about collateral damages. Angela is brought in to help Capo hopefully gain some professionalism instead of being a hot dog wild shooter without much class.
Capo has ideas that he can run the show & leaves Wayne to start his own drug business. Moose & Bone go with him. Angela stays with Wayne, so does Big Moe, but she didn't meet him right away. She did however, meet federal agent James Carter & ran into the brick wall of conscience after falling in love.
Poor editing. Half the time they are guzzling Rosay & the other half they're guzzling Rozay. The men give a lot of dap as greetings. I needed an urban dictionary to figure out some of the terms used. Many typos interspersed throughout the book.
"As soon as he stepped foot in the joint the(y) saw ass everywhere as the beautiful strippers shook and moved their bodies."
There's a lot of 'hoppin' going on in this book. The Urban slang 'lil niggaz' is offensive. So is the excessive use of oral sex, grinding & the "F-bomb".
"Angela hopped out the shower and quickly got dress and headed out the door. She hopped in her Lamborghini and headed straight for Mr. Goldberg’s office."
Some music is referenced to set the mood: Trey Songz’, T.I.’s song “I’m Back”, Lil Wayne & Erykah Badu.
“That clown Money Mike came up there acting up so I had to spank his boots” Capo said like it was no big deal. “He lucky I didn’t have my bitch with me” he said referring to his .45."
Lots of sex, drugs & death throughout. Because of the poor editing I gave it an almost three stars.
The book ends with To Be Continued… Teflon Queen PT 2 Now Available
Angela was no nonsense and she handled business for herself. Even though she had to kill him her relationship was beautiful he brought out her softer side. I love Angela cause she tried to separate business and pleasure but was left realizing she did love him. Capo is a whole different story cant wait to find out what happens next
Like all of Silk White's books this one had my attention from beginning to end. I can't wait to see how Angela is going to get herself out of this situation. This book shows that even the coldest at heart can melt and lose focus when they've been introduced to "real love".
This is undoubtedly the worst, most poorly written book I have ever read. I got it for free via an Amazon book promotion, but I still want my money back. I want my time back. I want my life back. To say that this book has a plot is to stretch the definition of "plot" until it means nothing more than a barely coherent, and ultimately purposeless, jamming together of people and events that made the mistake of existing and occurring in the same time and place. There is zero plot and character development that makes sense. All of the characters are either colossally stupid or unbelievably reckless. I know that Maya Angelou once said, "Nothing human is alien to me," so even idiocy of such magnitude is within the realm of possibility. Even so, events shouldn't be so outrageous that a reader sets aside the book every few minutes and mutters expletives in order to calm themselves down and return to a state where they are able to continue reading.
The only thing worse than the sad attempt at a plot is the author's grammar. 1) He does not know the difference between "than" and "then". 2) At some point, it seems as if he believes that "as" can be used instead of "then". In any case, he uses "as" far more often than any person ought to. If you played a drinking game where you took a shot each time he wrote "This person did X as they did Y," you'd die from alcohol poisoning after getting through three chapters. 3) He writes "every since", not "ever since". EVERY SINCE. 4) He writes "pedal to the medal" EVERY TIME THE PHRASE COMES UP. 5) Most of the time, it's like he doesn't even know that commas exist. When he does remember they exist, he uses them incorrectly, e.g. "The only thing on her mind was James, this is the exact reason she didn't do relationships, in the business she was in there was no room for emotions, or feelings, and now Angela was finding that out the hard way." 6) He repeatedly and remorselessly makes use of the most hackneyed metaphors in existence. He uses the phrase "as quiet as a cat" at least twice. TWICE. 7) He writes "your" instead of "you're". 8) What is it with this man and the phrase "put in work"? He abuses it more than he abuses the word "as". 9) He typed incorrectly the name of the very character after whom the book is named... Her name is ANGELA, but he wrote ANGEL at least three times. Case in point: "Once inside ANGEL made sure she closed the door behind her quietly as she removed one of her .380's and held it with a two handed grip as she moved through out the house as quiet as a cat as she searched for her target." In fact, this line is a prime example of everything that is wrong with this book.
Never before has a work of fiction left me so enraged. Is there a way to give negative star reviews? This book deserves -5/5 stars.
Ooook, this isn't a typical book I'd read, but I decided to give this one a try--what the hell, right? What I'm a little disappointed by is the fact this story could have been a really great one, with a little more technique.
What I found interesting about this book is that it appears as though the author has a very wild imagination and watched and/or watches a lot of drug-related flicks like New Jack City, New York Undercover, etc. The storyline sort of felt like those movies/TV shows coupled with a little Sopranos and Oz thrown in the mix, and I think that's where my problem lied.
The Teflon Queen left me with too many questions and not enough answers. The storyline ran all over the place with the author intentionally leaving many chapters unanswered, and to be fair, perhaps that's what the author was going for, but with a supposed action-based novel like this, if you don't have a strong writing technique, it can leave the reader a bit confused, which is exactly what happened to me.
I also found some of the scenes to be a bit far-fetched, which also proved that this author loves the above-type movies/TV shows I mentioned above. I don't believe a lot of research went into the legal aspects of this story. There were a lot of things I found questionable. And my biggest let down was the lack of description. Many times bad guys were mentioned as being an angry black dude or the Chinese drug lord, but I have no idea what these characters looked like other than to use my imagination based on films I've seen dealing with drug-dealing related type of films.
This book had so, so much potential, but fell flat for me and didn't stand up to what I expected. It's not a bad story though. It will definitely keep your interest, as it did mine, but I just had so many questions due to lack of description and knowledge of some scenes. If you like blood and guts, a little bit of hot steamy sex, I believe you'll enjoy this story, but know that you will most likely not get all the answers you may be searching for in this first installment of the series.
Not bad but a little all over the place. It felt like I was reading a few different stories at one time. I think I'm used to stories where different plots tie the story together towards the end. The characters had a very loose tie to each other and seemed to branch their plots into totally separate stories. The only other thing that threw me off was how uneducated the experienced "professionals" seemed.
I had an extremely difficult time reading this book. The slang was atrocious and spilled over into the narrative portions. I found some of it very offensive. I have read erotica and did not find it nearly as poorly written or offensive as this. I do not know that I could recommend this book to anyone nor do I think I would read another from this author.
This intro to the series was an okay listen. The usual mix of bad guys, victims, and violence. Nothing really stood out about it good or bad. I can't say if I will listen to or read book 2 just yet. Maybe if this had been more about the teflon queen instead of the men around her, I would have been invested.
I need to know what happens next and so will you once you get stuck into this book. What I really love about the story-line is that it's not all about the main character, it's how all the characters are all connected that's important.
I finished this book only to see how it ended, otherwise the spelling and editing errors would have made me stop in the first chapter. It would be a much better story if there was some character development, but everyone just showed up with no description.
