Feminist Political Theory by Valerie Bryson

Rate this book
Feminist Political Theory provides both a wide-ranging history of western feminist thought and a lucid analysis of contemporary debates. It offers an accessible and thought-provoking account of complex theories, which it relates to 'real-life' issues such as sexual violence, political representation and the family. This timely new edition has been thoroughly updated to incorporate the most recent developments in feminism and feminist scholarship throughout, in particular taking into account the impact of black and postmodern feminist thought on feminist political theory.

An excellent introduction to feminist political thought presented in a historically chronological order that relates ideas and their criticisms in a manner that encourages further independent exploration. For those trying to situate themselves within the broad discourse of theories about gender and feminism, this volume is a good beginning. It takes potentially painfully abstract concepts and distills them into digestible--though hardly reductionist--moments in feminism that can be used for greater understanding of individual theories or the narrative of feminist thinking as a whole.

Excellent work on the history of feminist political theories & movements in the EU and the US since the 17th century. Bryson with a remarkable academic yet comprehensible approach describes the evolution of feminism within political, economic systems and social movements. A must read for all those wondering on the roots of feminism and its evolution towards the postmodern queer theory.

Çok beğendim, 2000'lere kadar olan kısmı çok derli toplu anlatmış. Başlangıç kitabı sayılmaz ama.
