This is one of the most inspiring books that I have read in a long time. The book is divided into three parts. Part one is a summary of Miss Smith's childhood and ministry in China. The focus is always on Jesus. After reading this book I better understand how to share the gospel with others particularly people who do not have a western cultural Christian background. Part two covered the filling of the Spirit. What I enjoyed the most about this section was its practicality. The Last small section was three letters written to family and friends from Bertha Smith while ministry in China Her courage in dealing with Japanese and Communist soldiers during extreme conflict where she was ministry was amazing. She never indicated fear or need because she always felt in God's care. I feel that Miss Smith was submerged in God's Word.

Thank you Miss Jo! Disagreed with a few minor points about how God interacts in this world, but overall encouraged by this story!!

This book by Bertha Smith came with this warning, which read, "Caution! Your life may never be business as usual after hearing the heartbeat of Bertha Smith. I would agree with this warning. I read about the life of Bertha Smith and her missionary heart for the people of China. She served 42 years in both China and Taiwan. Then when she turned 70 years old, she was told by her mission board that she had to return to the States, and thus the title of this book, "Go Home and Tell" when she went home to the States and began sharing what the Lord had done in and through her life during the past 42 years in China and Taiwan. The gripping accounts are so powerful, and I was drawn into the story in ways that I had not expected to be drawn into the story. I would highly recommend this book by Bertha Smith, "Go home and tell" to anyone who might want to know more about her story and what the Lord did in and through her life and also what the Lord can do in your life if you will just allow Him to work in your life.

I believe the edition that I have is even older, it was given to me as a gift and is autographed by Bertha Smith herself.

This is honestly one of the best biographies that I have read in a long time. This book is an inspiration to me and I'm so glad that Bertha Smith wrote so many letters and kept such a good diary. She was an incredible woman, I wish I could have seen her in action. Her prayer life, her knowledge of the Scriptures, her zeal, her dependance on the Lord are all so note-worthy. If I could even be a little bit like her as a missionary, I will be happy. Statistics say that single women don't live very long, but she proved scientists wrong. She retired at 70 and only because she was forced to, but she said it was a good thing that rules were in place. A must read for anyone on the mission field and anyone else that might be curious.

This is one of those life-changing books. I felt as if I was taking a discipleship course by reading her stories and applying the principles to my own life. I highly recommend this book and suggest a notebook and pen with which to take notes!

Miss Bertha Smith's biography of life as a missionary in China is both exciting and inspiring. As I read of her survival on the mission field I am greatly impressed how God provided for her and how she lived on very little food from time to time. One of the interesting themes that runs through the back was how her ministry in one area somehow managed to create a ministry and another area.

Of course Miss Smith handles one particular description very daintily. When the Japanese come and occupy the city that they are in she seeks to protect all of the young girls and women that you possibly can. She never really bothers to describe what the Japanese wanted with the women but leaves it unsaid. However several occasions she went and stood between Japanese soldiers and some of these young women and ordered them out of the area they were in. We know today that the Japanese were ordered when they invaded China to pillage and rape as punishment these people.

On an inspirational note the amount of time sent in prayer and also preparing the Chinese people to really understand really is inspiring we live in a day and age in which we simplify that preparation process.

This book is the most life changing book I ever read. If you want to learn how to pray for a revival then this is the book to read. I have read it again, again, and again. It has a fresh new message every time I read it.
