Edward Jeffrey Irving Ardizzone, CBE, RA was an English artist, writer and illustrator, chiefly of children's books.

For Tim All Alone (Oxford, 1956), which he wrote and illustrated, Ardizzone won the inaugural Kate Greenaway Medal from the Library Association, recognising the year's best children's book illustration by a British subject.

For the 50th anniversary of the Medal (1955–2005) it was named one of the top ten winning works, selected by a panel to compose the ballot for a public election of the all-time favourite.

I love Ardizzone's illustration work. I hope to read everything he illustrated - not to mention the books he illustrated and wrote himself. These 6 Tim books are wonderful. Excitement, adventure, an illustration on every page - I simply cannot wait to read these to Squirt! I'm going to have to beg, borrow or steal a "Complete Adventures Of Tim" soon. This is a timeless series - my favorites in this collection were "Tim and Ginger" and "Tim to the Lighthouse" - I just love how Tim and his friends play at the seaside, talk to old salts, stowaway on boats, work as cabin boys (and cabin girls - there's plenty of stuff that girls would enjoy in these books, by the way), and get into all kinds of scrapes. The quintessential kids adventure books, if you ask me. I highly recommend them to the kid in everyone.
