2009 reprint of 1945 edition. Neville Goddard believed that prayer is the master key. A key may fit one door of a house, but when it fits all doors it may well claim to be a master key. Such and no less a key is prayer to all earthly problems.
Neville Goddard was a writer, speaker and mystic. He taught various self-help methods for testing his own claim that the human imagination is omnificent, therefore God. He achieved popularity by reinterpreting the Bible and the poetry of William Blake.
This little book highlights the positive effects prayer has on the subconscious mind and how that impacts the mental state positively. When you pray while certain that what you’re praying for is already yours, you’re automatically setting yourself in the right mental status that will motivate you further to achieve. The author explains how prayer is a meditative state in which one can experience mindfulness, which in turn has a lot of benefits psychologically. So regardless who you’re praying to or what your religious believes are, prayer has a noticeable positive effect on your mindset.
Really surprised myself reading a book with this title after how I grew up slanging Watchtowers as a kid. Usually most Christian stuff is a hard pass for me, but Neville Goddard is 🥰
In this lecture, Neville explains how prayer works. You must believe you already have what you are praying for. To do this, try to feel it. How would you feel if you already had what you wanted? Try it, and see. Read this for a more detailed explanation. You'll be glad you did!
This is another wonderful little book by Neville, perfectly expressed, in the old-fashioned language of the times he was born into. Sometimes I have to read his sentences several times to fully comprehend them. He is extremely intelligent, deep and logical.
Seemingly all his books have the same important message: when you pray, believe that you already have what you pray for, and feel the feeling you would feel if it were reality. This information is based on the law of reversibility:"If your realized prayer produces in you a definite feeling ----, then, inversely, that particular feeling --- must produce your realized prayer."
The author explains how you can help another by imagining him how you want him to be, as long as the desired state is something he himself would want of another or himself.
Neville, like Joseph Murphy, Catherine Ponder, Joel Goldsmith and probably many others, thus believes it is desirable to help others in this way, while Abraham teaches, as far as I understand, but I may be mistaken, that you should focus on working on your own problems, as it is ultimately ourselves alone who can change our lives.
Neville concludes the book by exhorting us to assume the feeling "I AM Christ", whereafter our whole behaviour will subtly change in accordance therewith.
I strongly recommend this book and all Neville's other works to all those interested in learning how to pray effectively in this way.
Three stars because I think the basic tenet of this book is true. That's useful if you haven't heard it before. The book proposes one simple idea but it is VERY repetitive. Also the layout on kindle makes it difficult to read. For both reasons I couldn't concentrate and I just skimmed through it to get to the end. It deals very much with praying for others rather than self help. The problem here is that, while I believe that the subconcious can influence one's own behaviour, I am unconvinced of the validity of the theory when it starts to get into telepathy. In common with other similar books it tends to state propositions as facts without any validation. It is a short book but it could be very much shorter. There are better books on this subject.
There is a common thread across all of Neville Goddard's books. It would be wise to not to try to delve into the work of too many different authors in the realm of this content and instead to find one author and delve into their work so as to really internalize and assimilate their ideas. Neville Goddard is a great author for the above case. And this book is concise enough to read a couple times and internalize. Or just keep going through more of his works.
I was swept away by Neville Goddard's biblical exploration of prayer as a practise in law of attraction.
I enjoyed his writing and marvelled at this thoughts based on his study of the word (bible). I really love his explanation that the art of believing in what we pray for is in our feeling, our ability to rejoice for the thing in question as to create and actualize it in reality.
Short read but very powerful.
There is something about this book that my soul knows to be true.
The book is about believing. Subconscious mind and creating thoughts and developing faith the thought. energies are inter related and created by one another. So is the thought flow. imagination and reality are also plays a similar role. What you imagine will become real, until one whole self wants the dream to come true.
Before you do something, you must believe you can do it.
When you look at someone, you must see yourself in them. You must believe them to be better than they are for that is the way they can recognize that they are better than they are.
A compelling read that delves into the power of prayer and imagination. Goddard redefines traditional views on prayer, presenting it as a mental art form that, when coupled with firm belief, can bring one's desires to fruition. The book is succinct and insightful, blending metaphysical thought with practical advice on how to effectively engage the subconscious mind.
Goddard's accessible prose allows readers to easily grasp his teachings on visualization and positive affirmations. While his metaphorical interpretation of scripture may not resonate with everyone, those with an open mind will find his perspective refreshing and potentially life-changing.
This book is a valuable resource for those looking to deepen their understanding of prayer as a tool for personal transformation.
I love Neville’s ideology! I’ve been wanting to read a book by him for a while now and will give his other books a read as well since they seem like good foundations. With that being said, this was not the smoothest read for me. It’s a short book so I thought I’d get through it pretty fast, but the way it’s written feels really clunky which slowed me down a lot. I had to focus on understanding his phrasing most of the time or I found myself skimming and having the go back and reread. It’s not the most concise explanation and the structure is a little repetitive, but I did highlight a lot of gold nuggets from start to finish so I’d say it’s worth a read nonetheless.
▪️controlled imagination. ▪️to pray believing that you already possess what you pray for ▪️What you sincerely believe as true of another you will awaken within him. ▪️You must know what you want before you can ask for it. ▪️The seemingly harmless habit of “talking to yourself” is the most fruitful form of prayer. ▪️Every dream could be realized by those self-disciplined enough to believe it. ▪️People are what you choose to make them; a man is according to the manner in which you look at him. You must look at him with different eyes before he will objectively change.
As usual, I am always blown away by how much i am able to take away from a Neville book. I completely understand his way of explaining certain spiritual and metaphysical subjects. Especially for someone like me who is trying to deconstruct religious beliefs given to me by my family. So, coming from a very structured, christian religion background, it helps that Neville has a very simple and easy to understand grasp on spirituality.
Quotes: "You don't attract what you want; you attract what you believe to be true." "To think is to speak softly, to speak is to think aloud." "The most effective method of healing or influencing the behaviour of others is what is known as the 'silent or absent treatment'."
“Prayer—the art of believing what is denied by the senses — deals almost entirely with the subconscious. Through prayer, the subconscious is suggested into acceptance of the wish fulfilled, and, reasoning deductively, logically unfolds it to its legitimate end. "Far greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.”
A truly worthy read if one has the spiritual consciousness to comprehend It’s full glory. The key to understanding this book is to contemplate, meditate, and pray over each profound point that is stated. Best prayers and wishes for all.
Very deep. Required me to read over and over the same lines to just finally begin to grasp some of the concepts written. Goddard, well before his time.
