Pierre Dukan is a French medical doctor and nutritionist, and the creator of the famous Dukan Diet.

In 1975, Pierre Dukan is a general practitioner in Paris when he was first confronted with a case of obesity. At the time, being overweight or obese was thought to be best treated by low calorie and small sized meals. Dukan thought of an alternative way to prevent patients from regaining their lost weight after dieting. He designed a new approach in four phases, including stabilisation and consolidation. After 20 odd years of research Pierre Dukan published his findings in 2000 in his book Je ne sais pas maigrir (I don't know how to get slimmer) which became a bestseller in France.

The book became a bestseller in the UK after Carole Middleton introduced her daughter Catherine, now The Duchess of Cambridge, to the diet before her wedding to Prince William. Catherine lost two dress sizes.

Dukan has published 19 books which have sold more than 11 million copies in 25 langages.

Some of these recipes are really good and of course some of them are horrible. My best advice to anyone just starting to use the recipes in this book is to watch out for the recipes labeled "easy" that involve quartering and skinning a whole fryer chicken. That is in no way easy and I will never do that again. Whenever it calls for a whole fryer chicken I just used chicken breasts. Another disadvantage of this book for American users is that there are a lot of recipes for rabbit and quail and such, stuff that is not readily available, and there are also a lot of recipes that call for ingredients that I could never find in America. I'm sure it would be great for the French, though!

If you're on the diet and need some inspiration this might help.

It would have gotten 4 stars if there were some sweets without artificial sweeteners. Anybody heard of beet puree?

If you've read the book, you already have the basics. That said, the pictures are rather nice.

Great. Includes a summary of Dukan diet (you don't need to buy the book, really), and the recipes are great. I thought Dukan diet was boring until I read this book. I don't give it 5 stars because it doesn't include pictures of the recipes.

My husband and I lost quite a bit of weight using this method. A good book that explains the "rules" of the diet very clearly.
