In a very unrealistic telling, a girl named Jessie decides to do something about being teased for being the teachers pet. I suppose this book was meant to help those kids that face that problem, but having been one of those kids I can say it was not very helpful. Jessie's problems snowballed until she ended up getting held back because of her attitude. And finally at the very end, after almost a year of this going on with no one noticing but her teacher and the principal (including her best friend), her parents tell her everything is ok and suddenly she becomes good at sports too. The only positive thing I saw was that Jessie was able to share that her problems were important. Even though they seemed small to the adults, they were world changing to her. Kids do need to know that adults care about their problems no matter how "small" it seems that they get teased or that they don't know how to handle something a grown up would consider simple.
