The story of a great baseball pitcher and his determination to overcome a serious injury, this book recounts how Boston Red Sox pitcher Roger Clemmens recovered from shoulder surgery to make the 1986 season and break the single game strikeout record
A great recount of the 1986 baseball year as seen through the eyes of Roger Clemens. I found it fascinating the details he remembers. Things like, on the game July 17th vs the Giants, Andre comes to the plate, I throw a change-up, then a forkball, then he fouls off another change-up, then I throw a breaking fastball that hits the low corner for a strike out. I'm not a baseball fan or anything like that. I picked this book up because I'm a baseball Dad now. My son is a pretty good pitcher, but I know almost nothing about actually playing ball, so as a bookworm I turn to books to learn. Getting right into the head of a great pitcher like Clemens kind of gave me an idea of what it might be like being a pitcher.
