This was one of the sexiest werewolf/vampire books I have read in a long time. I have to admit that it was hard for me to buy the connection between Ruby and Ellis. It was more believable for me that her and Tyler would have been better suited for one another.
However, once there was more time for them to 'connect' it all clicked into place for me. I have to say this is the first book where I wanted the vampire over the werewolf and that NEVER happens. I loved that Sommer wrote a believable erotica story, where the woman wanted both men so she took both men. Where it wasn't all about over analyzing the situation. She was hot for Tyler and Ellis and wanted them both till her own body rejected the idea.
It makes it real. Real people, don't have it easy, they don't fall head over heels the first time. They have relationships before the FINAL relationships. Sommer really drove home that these are supernaturals, animals, monsters, beasts. With all the instincts of those creatures.

Just finished reading Big Bad by Sommer Marsden. I really like her Zombie Hunters series, so I thought I'd give this one a try. I mean, after all, werewolves and vampires and love triangles, right?
Like I told a few friends, it's like Twilight, only with some actual payout. Did anyone else think that? That Twilight would be just so much better if 1) Bella actually banged Jacob instead and 2) there was some on-screen sex?
Anyway, it was a fun story; lots of different kinds of supernaturals (werewolves, vampires, psychics, empaths, werebears oh my!) and quite a bit of Sommer's trademark spit-takes. The woman cracks me up and as I almost always seem to be drinking a coke while I'm reading, I've sprayed soda on my Kindle too many times now. I actually enjoy that, quite a lot. I'm a big time weird-pillow talk sort of girl, so reading an erotica story where I'm actually laughing just as much as getting twitchy in the thigh area? That's a big time bonus.
So, four and a half out of five.

Ruby is friends with a vampire, Tyler. Tyler and Ruby are both sexually attracted to each other though she is honest when she tells Tyler that it would just be sex. Ruby is also interested in Ellis, who just so happens to be a wolf shifter. Quite the dilemma. Ellis, the wolf shifter, knows Ruby is his, but he is being patient, willing to give into one of her fantasies; even if it may not be the best choice. After surrendering to her lust for vampire Tyler, (resulting in some hot, steamy sex and a vampire bite to send her over the edge), she is thrown back to the past in visions. Visions induced when as she blacks out from one of the most amazing orgasms. These visions, without giving too much away, thicken the plot in this sexually charged yet intriguing story. The tale of a girl who wants both the warm and cold man, lots of sexual pleasure from the two, a reincarnation, and a villain who is set out to kill not just for old vengeance, but in hopes of becoming Alpha of the pack. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I found myself pulled into the story, maybe from all the hot sex going on or maybe from me trying to see if the bad guy would get his in the end. I only wish I knew a little more background into the characters. Can you say prequel? Fingers crossed. Putting that wish aside, I would say give this book a chance. That is if you can visualize yourself wanting a vamp and a wolf, plenty of hot sex, and some fighting bad guys action, (and really who can’t). I’m counting on crossed fingers and toes that Sommer Marsden will continue with Tyler's story, since I was hurting with him at a love lost. Spoiler girl moment, I even teared up a bit but I still really want to read Tyler’s story.

This book could only be describe as delicious. This of your favorite dessert that is all you can eat with out gaining a pound. This is how I think of this book. Delicious and Mouthwatering. The characters are rememberable and I always find that to be the mark of a good book. The dynamics between Tyler, Ellis and Ruby are explosive. The side characters are just as endearing as the main characters. I wish I had a big, cuddly, teddybear of a friend as Mr. Peabody. I won't reveal who she picks but I wasn't upset by the ending especially when I find that the runner up will one day find his true love also. And yes, I wait in anticipation for that book to come out. I recommend this book to all those who love their paranormal romances with heapings of steamy sex scenes. I enjoyed the main course and beg for seconds.

Really, really enjoyed the love triangle. Felt so badly for both Tyler and Ellis. Ruby, not so much. My dislike of her character, what I saw as ingrained selfishness on her part, made me give this a lower rating than I would have.

Ruby’s take on passion:Rationalization is all well and good; everything neatly in its place and all. What if there is no good “acceptable” reason other than I darn well want to? I’m a big girl and this is no dime store romance novel – I don’t owe anyone explanations.I want both Ellis and Tyler – end of story. What could be more stressful than having the hots for your vampire best friend and newly arrived alpha werewolf? How about the werewolf wanting to do the horizontal mambo with you too. That, and you happen to be his long dead mate, reincarnated.No stress there, right? What if you buy into the whole life-death-rebirth cycle because it makes more sense than anything else you’ve heard?
Knowing all of that you still want to be the middle to a wereworlf/vampire sandwich, and they both want you (but not each other) very, very much. Further complication is that you can actually have both of them in your bed with your new/recycled mate’s blessing, but there’s an expiration date on the deal. One and one time only before he makes you fully his. Do you want to take the bull by the horns as it were, just to experience the rush of two impossibly handsome males at your sexual beck and call only once? Can you talk yourself into being that brave? Can you?
Sommer Marsden is quickly becoming one of my favorite “go to” authors, and Big Bad is just another example of why my Kindle will be burning up during these cold winter months. She has the ability to take characters that at first glance might be the sort you’ll roll your eyes over, and using those same flaws, command your love and sometimes grudging respect.
At first I didn’t care much for Ruby – I found her a bit selfish and uncaring. She wanted to scratch an itch so badly with her best friend she was willing to almost assuredly throw away the existing relationship. I know, Tyler was definitely drool worthy, but most of us can only claim one or two really close friends during our lives and know better than to chance losing something so precious for such a fleeting bit of pleasure. Tyler was a bit deluded in his thinking – that if they crossed that “line” in their relationship Ruby would just begin to magically love him, but couldn’t see that they had very different views of what they meant to each other.
Big Bad of course has the archetypical alpha male and Ellis fits the bill nicely, but surprises us with the depth he brings. He’s a guy and essentially one big hormone even being as old as he is, but does his best to ease Ruby into the reincarnated mate role with as much delicacy as possible. I enjoyed the history on Ellis a lot – the way it figured in to the plot really gave the story a kick in the pants and got my blood pumping and kept me invested until the last page.
Ms. Marsden even scores an A+ with her secondary characters – I absolutely loved Peabody and Mr. O’Dell! Hopefully she’ll allow them to make an appearance in future series installments. If you need a hot tale with a plot meaty enough to tide you over during the blustery cold of winter, Big Bad by Sommer Marsden is just the thing!

Ok it’s finally done! I felt like reading this book was an obligation I had to fulfill.
It’s not a bad book; it has a couple very desirable male leads. It has an aggressive alpha werewolf and an interesting (although highly under-developed) vampire character. The heroine is slightly annoying (by being seemingly dimwitted and unable to defend herself till the end of the book) however, that’s not anything new.
The worst part about this book was the writing. I found this author in a collection of short stories from one of my favorite authors (Selena Kitt). The short story Sommer Marsden wrote in the collect was very good, it made me immediately purchase one of her books. I will not do that again. Her writing is confusing. The way she structures her sentences seems backwards, almost like English is a second language. I was so distracted by the confusing writing that I wasn’t into the book, which wouldn’t have been a bad story otherwise.
So this has to be a “not recommended” in my opinion... It really just gave me a headache.

I don't think I've ever read a book before where the heroine absolutely ended up with the wrong guy (though I'm still not sure why she had to choose, seriously) but I still really enjoyed the book anyway and actually wasn't angry at it at all. Normally this kind of wrongness would ruin my entire day, but this was still a good read.
There was a stiffness to the Ruby/Ellis interaction that almost felt like a first draft, while the Ruby/Tyler interaction felt both perfectly natural and like a finished piece. I think I could've been talked into Ellis, but I didn't think the author won the argument.
Ultimately, I think I didn't mind the Ellis choice because while I get Ruby as a character, Tyler is too good for her. He deserves someone who didn't get enormous gratification from the fact that a hot guy she didn't love was completely in love with her. Please note that I am a person who would get enormous gratification from this sort of thing and would probably be less kind and more manipulative than Ruby was, but this is why I don't deserve nice things, either.

Sometimes it was hot and sometimes it was not. I just felt like there was something missing in this story. I hate to say that it fell a little flat for me.

I have to say BIG BAD was the first book of Sommer's I read & it's AFRIGGINMAZING! I have already recommended it to a majority of my friends and family that enjoy paranormal/erotic or otherwise just a great read. It does not follow a usual pattern like many other paranormal books do(it was surprising what happened each time). It's very refreshing and I'm hoping for a sequel!

i enjoyed this book, but i wanted so much more....more everything. my main problem was i really wanted to know more about the characters. so really, my only complaint was that the story could have been waaaay longer

H.O.T! I only give it 4 stars because the plot was a bit predictable. But did I mention HOT? :> I will definitely be reading the sequel. Sommer Marsden rocks. And I love her humor. It kinda parallels mine.
