Please read at your discretion and check the warning in the preface of the book.
What a book!! This trope is not something I've read before, the reverse age gap along with the heat, tension and plot was perfect.
Nadia is on her way to visit her son in prison, along with a truckload of ‘goodies’ hidden in her nether regions. On getting to the prison there's a breakout and a prisoner kidnaps her. Malakai is younger than Nadia. Bent on getting away, they go together.
The suspense of the police finding them kept me on edge throughout the book and Malakai and the way he was with Nadia was 🔥🔥
If you like age gap with a twist, give this ago.
As usual Layla does not disappoint with her writing.
Moving right along with Layla Simon. I know some readers discover an author and can plow through their entire backlist but I’ve never been able to do that. After like 3 or 4 books I need something different and I may or may not remember to go back and read the rest. So far Layla Simon is 3 for 3 with me. I’m digging her vibe and happy to keep going.
This one was pretty different from the high school bully romances. We’ve got a 20something prison convict who’s escaped custody and taken a 45 year old mom as his hostage. She had been on the way to see her son in prison and smuggle drugs in under coercion.
Generally speaking, age gap is not a trope I particularly enjoy. It won’t stop from reading a book but I’m definitely reading *in spite* of the age gap and never because it has one. Additionally, I tend to actively avoid age gap if it’s the heroine who is older. I’m certain this is some form of internalized misogyny but it is what it is. I’ve been liking this author so far so I was willing to make an exception.
Definite spoilers beyond this point.
The bulk of the story is H keeping h hostage while he’s on the run from the police. It keeps things interesting for sure. I liked both the H and h here. They had pretty amazing chemistry together.
As with this authors other books there’s some tantalizing dubcon/noncon that reminds me of Sam Mariano.
I have noted the ending of her books feel a little too easy and unrealistic but I don’t mind that terribly because the story was so enjoyable.
Fast burn No virgins Dubcon/noncon Mild OW drama No OM drama No cheating Months long separation HEA
Safety - I’d consider this pretty safe. The OW drama isn’t what you may expect. H had broken out of prison because he thought his “girlfriend” was about to have his baby and he wanted to be there. He’d only slept with her once while drunk and she told him he was the baby daddy. He killed her abusive ex protecting her and that’s how he ended up in prison.
The h is hurt when she finds out about the “girlfriend” but she was never really his girlfriend and it turned out he wasn’t the baby daddy.
The separation stems from him being caught and he’s back in prison. She manages to break him out. She’s pregnant and far enough along to know baby gender. They escape to some remote island to presumably live happily ever after.

Tropes: ~age gap w/older woman (h is 45 and H is in his 20s) ~dark romance ~kidnapping ~convict hero ~size difference ~forced proximity ~tattooed, villain hero ~a hint of primal play ~dub con
Lately I've been preferring age gaps where the woman is older, which is what originally made me pick this one up. I was also intrigued that the hero is a convict who has just escaped prison (okay, and the cover model might've caught my attention as well lol). The book jumps right into the action, when our heroine Nadia is driving to the prison to visit her son. She's not only visiting, but also smuggling in drugs after a threat on his life, and she has the drugs stashed in a very private place, if you catch my drift. She ends up getting hit by a prison van before she can reach her destination, and then is kidnapped by an escaped convict named Malakai.
The book is mostly Kai on the run with Nadia in tow, and while I did think that it was a bit insta-lovey, I still had a great time. Kai quickly realizes that Nadia is hiding drugs, and the scene where he...removes them from her was way hotter than it had any right to be haha. The whole book is definitely one where you have to suspend your disbelief, but it was a fun, quick read that I needed to help get me out of a reading slump I had been struggling with. I definitely will keep this author on my radar for the future!
If this book was Taylor Swift lyrics:
"It was the great escape, the prison break The light of freedom on my face"
This was definitely a different read. Nadia had plans to help her son, who's life is threatened in prison, but she doesn't expect to crash into Malakai, who is trying to escape from prison.
I liked Nadia's character. She is older which likely lends to her maturity, and while she does take chances to defend herself and fight back, she also seems to see the situation from other's perspective and takes a non-biased approach to things. She has had to overcome difficulties in her life, including an abusive husband and will feel inadequate at times, but she is selfless and will put others before herself. Nadia is also resourceful and spins things to her advantage.
Malakai is a gentle giant/golden retriever. He is younger, so this might lend to some of his actions of wanting to show respect to Nadia, but he also will enforce his points and take control when needed. We learn he hasn't had the easiest childhood (and I wish we got a little bit more on his background as well as the group helping him escape) and hasn't been treated fairly due to lack of schooling, but he has principles and deep down wants to do what's right.
The two of them are a couple that you end up rooting for. There might be some moments between the two where there are boundaries pushed and we do get some scenes where they address this. Malakai and Nadia also seem to work well together, with them looking out for the other as they are on the run. They might have issues communicating at times, but they eventually to work things out and open up to one another. You could also see the push and pull between them and are glad when things work out.
Along with that, we do get some suspense as we wonder if the police will catch up to Malakai and what Nadia will do as a hostage. You also get to see the dynamic between Nadia and her son, Josh, and I kind of wish we got more scenes as well because by the end, you could tell this mom and son duo are formidable even if it seemed they had a strained relationship at the beginning.
Overall, this read kept me turning the pages, wondering what would happen next.
I have no idea how I found this book or this author. It's been in my KU books for a while. Either way, I'm so glad I did. I loved it. I laughed, cheesy smiled, and felt nervous throughout it all.
I love Kai. Love him.
This story is about Kai and Nadia. Nadia has a son in prison, and she is forced to sneak contraband into the prison to save him. On her drive there she gets into a car accident with Kai. He is escaping prison where he was serving time for murder. He didn't want to serve his full sentence and miss the birth of his son. Kai ends up taking Nadia and her car during his escape. They spend two days on the turn together. I won't spoil the rest of the story because it's a ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There are secrets, action, steamy deliciousness, and humor. Seriously, I laughed a few times throughout this book. Did I mention that I love Kai? He's a gentle giant but he absolutely will go there if he needs to. He's the epitome of misunderstood and judged based on his appearance. The man has had a rough life and been used for most of it. I felt so much for him...every time he felt like he wasn't good enough or likeable. I wanted to wrap him in bubble wrap and keep him safe, protect his fragile ego and heart at all costs. All this man wanted was love and a family; to be wanted and cared for. Yet, he did commit murder...twice. Like I said, he will absolutely go there if it's necessary. Nadia was tough. She quite literally would do anything for those she loves. She's also twice Kai's age. This woman did some things that I do not think I would ever be able to do. She was strong, gave as good as she got, and yet she was also a bit fragile, broken, and didn't feel worthy. Her history was also heartbreaking.
I picked this up and literally did not put it down until I finished it. Read it straight through in one sitting. I am anxious to read more from the author now.
I had high hopes for this book and I was not disappointed 💯👌🏻 I’ve never read a reverse age gap but I’m ngl I’m probably gonna look for more now! I love this trope!! The spice was perfect 🤌🏻 The mmc called 90s music oldies and honestly I was ready to throw away my kindle after that line because wtf? Anyways, the only reason I’m not giving 5 stars was because I wanted it to be a little longer. This story and the chemistry between the fmc and mmc was just 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 and I didn’t want it end so soon 🥺 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (Arc review)
I really LOVE Layla simon, i first read your loss and i was absolutely obsessed with it. This book just solidified that obsession with her. This is a stand-alone, reverse age gap dark romance, with a captor / hostage situation. Always check trigger warnings before reading but other than that buckle up babes for this beautiful story between two broken people trying to find happiness.
We have Nadia who is trying to help her son who is in prison by taking a very high risk, but before she even gets to the prison she gets into a car accident and gets taken hostage by an insanely hot guy whose around the same age as her son. The attraction between these two is so strong they will do whatever they can, to understand eachother, to help and to love eachother in the best way they can.
I really loved this story, they both have demons from their past and it's so beautifully written how they overcome them by opening up to eachother and to understand, love and support eachother no matter what.
Reverse age gap of 23 years but t didn’t put me off reading . When Nadia is going to visit her son Josh she crashes into a van and Kai appears asking if she’s ok it’s then she realises he’s an escaped prisoner .
My very first read, by Layla Simon. I will definitely be picking up more of her books and yes, I am fan Girling hard! This book I had everything and anything that you need to fantasize in the story. Nadia and Kai are hot and sexy. She was not just someone’s mom, but she was someone’s everything. I did not expect to love this book like I did. I laughed. I cried And I was rooting for them every step of the way. Nadia starts off being that mom who goes above and beyond for her child. Her son is in prison, and she believes that he is in trouble. To save him she attempts to smuggle drugs. Scared, but somewhat fearless she goes all in. That is when she was intercepted by the sexy and devilish Kai. A prison break gone wrong because as he’s on a mission to see his unborn child. Together they fight for each other and in away no one ever has before. Age means nothing but loyalty and love. Roll everything.
Nadia is a 45 year old Mom. She had a rough marriage due to her husband being abusive which wasn’t a great influence on her son. Her son ends up in prison and men from the gang he’s in tell Nadia if she doesn’t smuggle drugs into the prison that they’ll have him killed. She heads to the prison for a visit with her son with packages of meth in her 🐱 and arrived just as Malakai (our MMC) is escaping. He forces his way into her car and takes her captive. When he finds out she has drugs in her 🐱 he makes her come to get them out 😳 things escalate from there and the more time she spends with Malakai the more she likes him.
Malakai is convicted of murder but there’s something he needs to do before he spends the next 8 year sun prison so he escapes. He was more soft than I expected (I say soft lightly because he takes her captive and does noncon/Dubcon things to her soooooo he’s not like romcom soft) but the more you learn about him to more you realize he isn’t this psychopathic prisoner you expect him to be. He was perfect for Nadia!
I really wanted the primal play they kept hinting about and I’m sad we didn’t get it.
I enjoyed the plot and characters. I loved the ending, things went exactly the way I had hoped they would. This was my first Layla Simon book but it won’t be my last!
This is the second book I read from Layla and with every book I love her more and more!
One of the best reverse age gaps that I read! The age gap is big, Nadia is 40+ and Kai is 20+ and Nadia meets Kai when she goes to prison to visit her son and gets taken hostage by, yes you guessed it, Kai.
The characters in this story feel so incredibly real, maybe it's because every now and then Nadia is reminded of the impact her age has on her body.
Nadia being a perceptive schoolteacher sees through Malakai's tough exterior and uncovers hidden parts of his personality. And guess what? Malakai recognizes Nadia's needs too, and together they embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery. Their connection is absolutely heartwarming, and I can't help but love this story! ❤️
The writing style is phenomenal. She is building the tension gradually and you can slowly get to know the characters and fall in love with them! Plus, the spicy scenes will make you sweat!
Layla is the only person that will make retrieving d*ugs from a body so intimate and hot 🥵
Kai from the first go is a giant with a huge heart that only wanted someone to love him and billed a family with him, and Nadia came from an abusive marriage where she had to fight to keep her family and sanity. They are a match made in heaven, the only downside is, they need to accept it, and enjoy it while it lasts. Because Kai is on the run from prison and Nadia is his hostage…
What to expect: 🖤 Kidnapping 🖤 Reverse age-gap 🖤 Non-con/Dub-con 🖤 Grooming 🖤 Domestic abuse 🖤 Vi0lence-induced miscarriage 🖤 Dual POV 🖤 Amazing spice 🔥 🖤 HEA
The cover got me. The blurb peaked my interest. The first chapter was meh but when Kai collided, yes collided, on the page I was hooked. And from that moment on I was rooting for the criminal. Kai is young, misunderstood, convicted boy living on survival skills. Nadia is a mother hell bent on protecting her son, anyway she can.
Once Kai and Nadia realize and accept that they are each others sole ally, the walls come down, the secrets come out and we truly find that everything, I mean everything is not exactly as clear as we think it is. The story literally tells of redemption, betrayl and the secrets we keep that destroy ujs little by little.
However, when we allow ourselve to feel and see things through another's eyes we learn that we can screw out ownselves becasuse what we thought was true is distorted by our own interpretations.
I cannot wait to read more from Ms. Simon!!!!
Kudos!!!!.

IN HER WORDS: Trigger Warning: dub/non-con, cavity drug-smuggling, physical assault, murder, restraints, references to primal play, grooming, domestic abuse, and violence-induced miscarriage
I don’t normally choose anything that could be a mafia-like romance, unless it’s a PNR. But the unique title and concept just hit me at the right time. On the way to meet her son, Nadia is too distracted from worrying to notice the prison transport vehicle and causes an accident. Someone quickly appears to help, but to her horror, he is the escaping prisoner. Shoved into the other seat, he takes her in the busted car to a rural location. The complication is that she was not just visiting, she was supposed to deliver drugs under threat that her son would be assassinated if she failed.
Held as hostage, Nadia is as messy as a scattered jigsaw puzzle. She thought she had escaped the years of spouse abuse, but the memories all returned as Malakai refused to let her escape. Not only was her son in prison, but now she had returned to hers. On his part, Malakai recognized that she was a Mule and forcibly extracted the bags of drugs. This led to a rape scene…but don’t stop reading. Nadia might be a 45-year-old, plain in features, have sagging skin and an adult child, but she had never had decent sex before.
I don’t know how Layla Simon can make the act of removing drugs from a body so intimate. I feel so embarrassed for her. And then the guy thinks about his own lover about to give birth, and I feel guilty again because how can I root for a romance between them when he’s already involved?!? For once, I actually enjoy the dual POV.
At times the characters seem so real that I expect them living next door. As a schoolteacher, she sees things in Malakai that he wouldn’t admit. He recognizes what she needs, too, and together they seem to heal each other. I love this story!
The writing style is excellent. After reading two other novels that had less sophistication, I really appreciate a well-written novel. Plus, the sexy scenes are well-done. As Nadia struggles to escape out a window, she is grabbed: “the hard muscles of his torso flush against my back.” Did you mention “flush”? 🥰
Malakai is an interesting name that I had to research. “Summarizer Malakai is primarily a male name of Hebrew origin meaning "Messenger Of God". It is associated with faith and spirituality and suggests a connection to a higher power, making it a popular choice for parents who want to instill strong religious values in their son”. Well, isn’t that an interesting twist of fate?
And about that non-con. You don’t do that for real, ever, do you?” She screws her face up tight, puffing out a quick breath. “You don’t go ahead when a woman really says no?” Well, now we readers know that she has a safe word and refuses to use it.
This is very similar to a book by another author on Wattpad. I read that wattpad story in 2019 snd this was published 2023. Maybe I shouldn't say it and probably can't say it's copied or stolen, because I know many authors seem to di this, but I'd only re-read the Wattpad author's story before this again and the similar story really stood out.
But putting that aside, to do the rest of the review of the story and writing, I was bored by page four. That's really not good. The author made the reader read the heroine thinking multiple times in just those first four pages that she should run but she couldn't because her son would be killed if she didn't deliver the drugs.
And it kept being repeated, so by page 14 I took a break already. Completely tedious to repeat the same thing so much. There are numerous times words are wrong, and even entire sentences that dont make sense, lile this one, "Nerves tucked in behind my ears sting with sadness". What?
At first I thought maybe the author meant to say 'eyes", but the next sentence she writes, "The skin around my eyes feels tight ". So if the author had meant the heroine to think, "The nerves behind my eyes" then she would have continued the sentence with "and the skin around them felt tight". So again, "Nerves behind her ears sting with sadness". What???
The heroine was an idiot, despite being a 45 year old school teacher she tries to escape when the second guy arrives instead of trying before or waiting until after when it's only the one guy.
The author claims with a warning that this is a dark/ dub-con but it's not, she's only playing at it. Dark romance is my favourite genre and this author doesn't do it. She's too up front with both characters thoughts, using first person pov from both characters and leaves no doubt they both want the other.
As well as being repetitive, the writing was often pointless. For example on page 14 again the author has the heroine for the umpteenth time thinking about what would happen if a parcel of drugs burst, It's pointless and time wasting because just a couple of pages before this the author had the heroine thinking, "it would cause a horrible death because I researched it".
There were also many very unbelievable issues, not only the very large age difference but also the heroine getting pregant at 50 with her second child to Kai, the second escape and her son Josh choosing to stay in prison etc. After all that, I will say I enjoyed the scenes of them together while he was on the run but not sure I'd rate it 3 stars for those. So 2 stars.
I'm usually quite brave when it comes to books, as in, i'll read anything and everything; i have no triggers. So I was quite surprised to see I was nearly scared off by this book's trigger warnings. I wasn't expecting warnings like cavity drug smuggling, or violence induced miscarriage amongst the many.
And honestly, I can't believe i nearly let it frighten me off! This was such a surprisingly really good book?? I was glued from the start and it had surprising amounts of thrill, suspense, sexual tension AND humour?? Which surprised me the most! Both MCs were a delight to read, both equally funny and sarcastic. The FMC was feisty in a non irritating way and fought off being abducted a LOT. She didn't just fall into the arms of the hot, muscly convict. I too was taken by surprised so at the same time, I kindaaaaaa understand how she feels about the MMC; he's shockingly kind and caring, and his reasons for wanting to escape was quite sweet actually.
I really enjoyed the FMCs ability to love so fiercely and how strong she is. She's endured some horrible stuff yet she's still got a heart to love and see the good in people. As mentioned, I really liked her brand of humour hahaha, its so relatable to use humour as a coping mechanism.
But the MMC is the definition of a giant golden retriever but can and will kill to protect those he loves. Argh, I really like Kai a lot!! I'm so glad he isn't the angry, broody type of convict for a change-- the poor man just wants to be loved.
And the age gap isn't pushed aside, both the MCs talk and joke about it. I wish we had a mini sequel or something. Would've loved to see the dynamics between the FMCs oldest son with his new siblings and stepdad ahahhahaha.
I'm super glad I gave this book a chance because damn, this is easily one of the better and satisfying convict books ive read!! I'm sorry, it really was a fun read hahaha.
But make no mistake, it IS a dark romance and can be quite heavy so PLEASE check the warnings.
This book was an exciting, thrilling, and spicy book. I loved it from the beginning to the end. I loved the suspense I felt while following these characters on their adventure. It was nail-biting in some parts and fan yourself from all the heat in others. This is the first reverse age gap book I have read and I really enjoyed it. It was an older woman/younger man book and was a rollercoaster of a ride. Please read the content warning at the beginning of this book. The characters had chemistry, angst, and push and pull it was page-turning to see what would happen next. I loved the plot of the story and the lengths people go to for the ones they love.
The characters in this book are trying to survive the world that each was handed. I loved how strong Nadia was in this book. She was stubborn, loyal, and determined. Kai was just and determined to get where he wanted to be. He was possessive, broody, and a total Alpha. I enjoyed their banter and Nadia's quick wit.

Nadia tries to smuggle drugs into prison as a bargaining tool for her son Josh but she is taken hostage by Malakai. This begins a romance of angst, danger, suspense, and sacrifice. Nadia and Malakai are two broken people that find their wholeness in each other. Nadia found her strength, voice and sexual peak during her journey with Malakai. Malakai found a safe haven where he could be embraced in all of his darkness and light. It was awesome to see a glimpse of the backdrop for Josh’s character and his growth into himself in prison. I would love to see him have his own story of redemption and love. I would definitely read his book. This book was a different kind of book for me and I enjoyed it. The touches of darker themes were not so dark that overpowered the book. This author is one that I would read more of her books.

Nadia has had a very rough life, abusive husband and an only son locked away, but she is strong enough to take care of herself and her son when it was necessary. She is on her way to a very bad situation when she’s carjacked by an escaping prisoner. Kai is her son’s age, he has a destination in mind, and knows his time outside is limited.
Layla has written a fascinating reverse age story with 2 very different characters. Nadia and Kai embark on a sexually charged journey to an unlikely love. They fulfill needs that neither realized were possible. A story of love, passion, and caring that starts so violently and grows into a beautiful relationship. This is the first book I’ve read by Layla and I’m very impressed with her style!!.

This was such a great read. It was completely not what I expected but I loved every minute of it.
When Nadia inadvertently crashes Malakai’s prison escape he carjacks her and takes her with him.
Their time together shows both of them growing, revealing sides to them neither of them expected. He’s portrayed as a vicious murderer and she’s described as a weak old woman but they both see the truth - he’s a protector and she’s anything but weak.
Some hot passionate moments, some vulnerability and even betrayal, but it was worth it all in the end.
It was a really enjoyable read and I loved the dual POV of it showing both Kai and Nadia’s thoughts and feelings including their self doubts making them come across as human and real people. It was easy to see the attraction and to want to champion them.

Tropes: Older Woman-Younger Man + Crime + Dark + Violence
Heat:8/10 Emotion 7/10 Story: 8/10 Characters: 7/10 Interest: 7/10 POV: Dual No Cheating No Cliffhanger
"Time-Out" is a great story with action, suspense, crime and steam. An older woman kidnapped by an escaping convict. I think there are points where the consent is grey, but the way it is portrayed didn't really bother me. There were a few things i didn't like (which i can't mention because i don't do spoilers) but over all i enjoyed the story and the characters. It's been a long time since i find a book that makes me wonder until almost the end about what will happen. The steamy parts were hot. Also, the cover is sooo good! I will definitely read more from the author.

This story is going to make your head hurt from all the whiplash you will endure during this amazing story. These characters will suck you in the moment you meet them and will keep wondering how will it all work out....
You will devour this reverse age-gap romance with every hot sexy scenes between Nadia & Malakai. Nadia can't believe while trying to smuggle drugs in for her son that she would be kidnapped by Malakai who is breaking out of prison. Their journey is crazy and wild. Nadia can't believe this is happening to her but when he stares her down with those beautiful eyes and holds her with his powerful arms she is a smitten kitten even though he is so much younger their connection is unlike anything she has ever felt before.
You will love this wild adventure and will long for more from Layla Simon. Happy Reading!!!
I loved this book even though I am not a big fan of reverse age gap...it was fast-paced, emotional, and kept you engaged until the end. Nadia is taken hostage by Kai when she has a minor car wreck...hitting his escape vehicle as he is breaking out of prison. She was there to visit her son....as well as sneak in drugs to keep him safe. Kai doesn't necessarily plan to keep Nadia with him but decides the leverage couldn't hurt as he tries to get to his ex-girlfriend who is about to give birth to his new baby. A lot of crazy stuff ensues, much of which I don't to give away and spoil for you, I will say this was my first but definitely not last Layla Simon book! I loved her writing and how the story flowed so well, making me feel as if I was a part of the action!.

This was a new author for me and I found myself loving the raw and brutal storytelling. The older woman with a younger man trope was done in a great way, mixing his sexual dominance with her awakening sexual empowerment. That both of them found light in each other when in such darkness was portrayed in a brutally ugly way, and I would caution readers to check trigger warnings. I thought it was one of the better dark romances I've read in a long time, if for no other reason than it offered something gritty and bold while somehow being incredibly vulnerable. Also, showing a woman as desirable no matter the age or marks on her body or soul, well… I simply must applaud any author for featuring a woman of a certain age in a dark romance. Will keep an eye out for more to read in the future!

Time Out by Layla Simon What a story, I love it. I believe this is the first book by Layla Simon I have read and she is amazing. This story is about Kai who's in his twenties and in a van heading back to prison, He disables the guard driving and escapes the van. Nadia is going to the prison to visit her son, she is in her forties and is forced to carry drugs up inside her and give them to her son so they don't murder him. She is scared and didn't see the van stop till she hits it. Kai takes this opportunity to jump in Nadia's car and move her over. I enjoyed reading this story, it's a page-turner. I highly recommend this story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book gets going from page one with Nadia smuggling drugs into prison in order to keep her son safe. Right before Nadia makes it to the prison, she’s in a car accident with what turns out to be an escaped convict, Malakai from prison, who takes her hostage, along with her vehicle.
We find out that Malakai is bunked next to Josh, Nadia’s son. This is how he found out that Nadia was going to deliver the drugs, and he felt he was entitled to those drugs.
Nadia had lived through hell, and finds herself back there when she gets kidnapped. I found myself connecting to Nadia, and rooting for her. I also strangely found myself even rooting for Malakai.
Includes - kidnapping - Reverse age gap - Non con - Grooming - Domestic abuse - Violence induced miscarriage - Dual pov - Spicy - HEA
I liked this book. It was short but a lot happened in it. This book is a reverse age gap meaning Nadia is older than Kai. Regardless, Kai was one sexy MMC and the spice was HOT.
Nadia was a single mother who was going visit her son in prison. She was smuggling drugs into the prison because she believed her son was in trouble and thought he would get killed if she didn’t. Kai is a prison who had a lot of plans to escape prison to visit his child that was about to be born. Nadia derails Kai’s plans and he takes her hostage while he tries to figure out the best way to get his plans back on track. They are hiding together when the lines between captive and captor become blurred.
Nadia is on the way to visit her son in prison when she inadvertently gets caught in the middle of Kai’s attempt to break out of prison. Kai is nice, kind, strong, gentle and very naive. Nadia has been browbeaten by her husband and son. She is tormented, afraid and sad. During Nadia’s captivity her and Kai learn some things about themselves and others. It was a great book on self discovery, finding yourself and taking charge of your life. I’m not sure I necessarily agreed with the ending I was really anticipating something different. The ending doesn’t ruin the book but, it felt forced. This was a very interesting book.
