Novella Nr. 0.3. Is it better than Nr. 0.2? Not really. Hot surfer dude is a psycho like his whole family and an old friend is not really a friend anymore. You see this "twist" from miles away, it does not make any sense. Also there is a turtle somewhere that saves Kate. Plus an old kind-of-shaman guy with seeing powers.
Gets 2 stars because Nr. 0.4 is even worse.

The adventure continues. Kate travels to Hawaii thinking it to be a safe place. But all is not sun and sand. Another gripping tale in the saga,

Here is another fast paced story in the Kate Jones series. As with the others, you have just a few paragraphs or maybe a page where the action slows enough for you to breathe, but that is all you are given. Only start these books when you know you have the time to finish them which isn’t long really. These are short books and can easily be read in an afternoon. You might be able to get more than one in a day. I read all four in one day.

The storyline continues with Kate running for her life. In that area, the book doesn’t change though she finds new predicaments and ways to get free.

Kate is still a character you love to follow and cheer her on as she does her best to survive the plots of a drug dealer who wants revenge. The ones that come in to support the story are colorful though many are only present for a few pages.

I do enjoy the writing of these books. It is not too descriptive where the thrill gets lost. The author keeps the reader attached to the story with just the right balance of dialogue, description, and action.

This is a book with violence and some language. A few F-bombs might be found, but nothing crude will be said.

A great short read. You have to read these books in order. To read them out of order will have you very confused.

Note: I received this book from participating in a book tour with no expectation of a positive review.

Death Rites - Hawaiian Bad Spirits

Rating: 4 of 5
Author: D.V. Berkom
Format: Kindle

After narrowly escaping death in Alaska, Kate Jones finds herself again on the run. Unfortunately, bad spirits have a tendency to find her wherever she goes and soon, death follows her once more. But something is different, and those who are after her are out for something much different than money or revenge and Kate suddenly finds her world and all she knows turned upside down.

In this installment of the series, Berkom introduces a bit of a twist in the Kate Jones series. I'm reluctant to give away too much of the plot line but lets say I think that this deviation from the Jones formula was a nice surprise which added mystery elements to her patented action movie style writing. I do feel sorry for poor Kate who is definitely a magnet for bad luck. I don't think her life will ever slow down!

Fans of the series will enjoy this chapter of the story. Next up is Touring for Death. Well have to see what trouble Kate gets herself this time! Always a great bargain on Kindle, download a sample and I'm sure you'll get pulled in to the Kate Jones adventures!

n an interesting twist in the Kate Jones series, Kate once again finds herself the target of an assassination plot but not of the Mexican drug cartel. This time, it's an ancient secretive Hawaiian sect that believes balance must be restored to the island culture and Kate has gotten in the way. Ritual sacrifice, a lovesick surfer stalker, theft of an irreplaceable sacred carving, ancient Hawaiian gods and goddesses, a kidnapping, a shark attack and the ubiquitous seer with a new warning for Kate ~ all make for a great story !

The sea turtle emerges as a recurrent theme in this story; Kate has a sea turtle tatoo with an intricate Maori design; the seer mentions a headless sea turtle in her future; and a sea turtle comes to Kate's rescue as she survives a midnight voyage in shark infested waters.

And once again, Kate's determination to trust no one is reinforced when she is betrayed by a n old friend.

This book was provided to me by the author of the Kate Jones series in return for an honest review. I have found all of this author's books to be highly descriptive and packed with action. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. You will, too.

Kate is in danger once again. This time, however, it's not what you think. Ms. Berkom has once again pulled me into the world of Kate Jones for mystery, danger, and the rush of knowing you're running for your life.

She surprises me, however, with the slight twist she threw into the is story. Although Salazar or his men didn't make an appearance in this story, Kate was still running for her life.

I can appreciate her descriptions of the beautiful surroundings in Hawaii, knowing she has recently visited this heaven on earth. Therefore, every sight, smell, and taste that she described, made me feel as if I were there with Kate.

But she threw me off the trail at the end, and I was not expecting the unexpected. The ultimate betrayal. I was blinded by her friend's kindness, up until the very end.

I cannot wait until the next Kate Jones story is released. These little books for me are very much a guilty pleasure and I have enjoyed each one immensely.

This is the best book of the series so far!! We get to see more of Kate and what makes her who she is up to this point. I really loved seeing her with her friends and hearing a bit more of her past.

The other reason this book is great is that the trouble she runs across isn't strictly Salazar related. It was a refreshing turn. The girl can find trouble anywhere!!

The story was more involved and detailed than others in the series. I did not see the twist coming and was more than a touch shocked! Kudos on that.

I was hoping for more Sam, but I have faith he will pop up again in the series!

Kate's run from Alaska to Hawaii. She's scared and heartbroken and she barely steps foot outside. But as a shaman had predicted, she's got "bad spirits" and trouble finds her anyway. This time it's not the drug lord, rather it's some Hawiians bent on returning to the old ways. Old ways that include human sacrifice...

As always, Ms. Berkom delivers a well written enjoyable story that's impossible to put down. I just love Kate, she's always doing the unexpected and that's what keeps her alive.

****The Kate Jones Thriller Series Vol. 1****
This was a great thriller. It had lots of action, edge of your seat suspense, and a strong female hero. I enjoyed this book so much that I can't wait to read the rest of the book in the series. I definitely recommend.

As it was before with the other books, it feels good as a story, the characters are lovely, but then the unaccepted and unbelievable happens what makes it a bit nuts ........ maybe it has to be like this. The action this women survives is just ..........whatever ! funny to read and always something to learn !
