Illustrating their points with materials ranging from the prehistoric cave paintings to the mystic Jewish Kabbalah, from the ancient Indians Vedas to tales of the North American Indians and other myths from around the world, Leeming and Page reveals the changing mask of the male divine.
A very well written mythological work, and academical as well. Well structured according to the chronological order of the rise of the male divines throughout the history. Quite comprehensive, since it's not just about mythological Greek, or Nordic, or Indian gods, but it also includes Abrahamic gods and mystical sects, and deities. Authors David Leeming and Jake Page have written their book Goddess: Myths of Female Divine before this one, but i think they've improved their tone distinguishably.
It took me so long to finish this book! Longer than it should have. I read it because I read the first in the duology, Goddess: Myths of the Feminine Divine, which is the one I prefer the most.
This informative book is a great guide for divinity studies and a good way to dip your toes into multiple POVs in different cultures, whether they are monotheistic, polytheistic, or animistic.
