Fast paced, action-packed read, although a bit predictable at times. The main character, Jake Nacht, is very similar to Repairman Jack, if Jack were a hired hitman. This story feels like part Repairman Jack and part Lincoln Rhyme (see The Bone Collector) - sort of a twisted precursor to Wilson's later work.

The beginning was really intriguing, and by the time I had finished a quarter of the book, I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the backstory, as twisted as it was. I was put into young Jake's shoes and felt all of his emotions: the love and hope of finding someone who really cared for him, and the shock, anger, and sadness of realizing you were just a pawn in a game (I would've read a whole book like that, to be honest). I also found Jake's feelings of depression and anger towards his "accident" very believable and even relatable. His obsessive thoughts over piecing together what happened and the revenge he would eventually execute were also believable, and had me rooting for him. Thought his change of heart over his "job" was sweet, but overall, I found his and Angel's relationship unbelievable. A lot of their relationship's development seemed to happen just through longing glances at one another, and then bam! They have sex what seems to be just weeks after he regains movement in his body, with no mention of their feelings until afterword. To me, it seemed like a forced relationship to give Jake a reason to have a change of heart over his current profession and his lack of having any positive emotions for anyone. Overall, this book was very easy to read, and I found myself wanting to finish it to see if Jake's change of heart was true.

As an avid reader of the repair man Jack series, I found this book to be about average. It was predictable in the course of the reading and how it would turn out. But it was a good short read though I did enjoy it. I would recommend it.

The romance element of this book I found to be crude and lacking in artistry. And so it is my opinion that this book would have been better without it. The story accomplishes nothing — neither a good romance nor the promised retribution.

Wonderful. It was a creative story that was fast-paced and well-told. It was an interesting story that was hard to put down. Good characters too.

I thought this was pretty good. It started like gangbusters but had a bit of a sagging middle before picking up again at the end. The character was interesting, especially in the early going.

I have to say this book really does it to you with Jake. The way he grew up what he learned and his battle with his life's decisions. GREAT BOOK!!!
