Despite being in my mid thirties and one of the world’s best soccer players, I had never reached my main goals in life—to be a husband and a father.
But after being left heartbroken and alone on the night I planned to propose to my girlfriend, I realized how reckless that goal was.
Love, in general, was reckless….
In order to keep from self-destructing, I’m forced to train with college soccer star, Ashlynn Keller. She was young and naive, too caught up in her own life goals to focus on her game.
We were on very different paths in life, but we found common ground on the playing field. It may have been wrong, but sparks started flying between us. And when we finally gave in to each other, we realized that being a little reckless was exactly what we needed.
Saying that I devoured this book in one night because of how addictive it is is an understatement, the dark circles under my eyes are huge. This is a new author for me and I know I'll be reading her entire list of books because I loved her way of writing.
The story follows two football (soccer) players, one professional and our FMC who plays for her university's women's team; Rhys has just gone through a breakup and an old teammate (who turns out to be the coach of the women's team) and friend tells him to "distract himself" by helping one of his players get out of her head by training her, and our player is nothing more and nothing less. that our FMC Ash and here I tell you that I LOVED her, how strong and determined she is, she asks for what she wants and above all defends her ideals, the dynamics of this duo was good to read, that tension at the beginning but seeing them fall from little by little and especially seeing Rhys in love I really liked it. Drama? The truth is, I didn't see much of , a little lack of communication and one or another small misunderstanding but nothing that hindered the story.
And that tremendous plot twist? like, blew my mind the whole time, it had been a long time since a book left me like this, I never expected anything like that but I completely loved how mature our main characters were.
🫂thank you to Katie Rae and The Author Agency for gave me this arc in exchange for my honest review 📚!!

I absolutely love sports romance books and right now I’m all about the soccer stories.
Rhys is a well know professional soccer player. After getting rejected by his girlfriend that he was about to propose to, he gets into a rut. He starts a fight mid game and his close friend demands he helps him with one of his athletes. Rhys offers to help his friend who coaches the university female soccer team. This female has lost herself and he’s hoping Rhys can help coach/guide her back.
Ash has lost herself and wants to just graduate and start working. At practice she finds out she’s getting help from her coach’s friend to help bring her back and finish her last season successfully.
The first meeting of Rhys and Ash is painful. They bicker back and forth but then realize their love for the game and just have fun playing 1-on-1. Both are super competitive and it was a good 2 hour game.
Over the course of the book he helps her with soccer and she helps him focus on the love of the game instead of the drama that causes him to lose focus. There is instant attraction between both and the book is a very spicy read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Age Gap (12 years) Athlete (professional and college soccer) Millionaire Forced Proximity “Enemies” to lovers Ex GF Drama Found Family Forbidden Romance Instant Lust
I really enjoyed this read by Katie Rae. It was a refreshing, palette cleanser between my dark reads.
Rhys is a professional football player that starts spiralling when his girlfriend finds out his plans to propose and leaves him. He gets asked by his friend and coach of the college girls football team to coach Ashlynn 1:1 who has lost her spark.
After a rough first session Rhys and Ash find themselves getting on really well and sparks start to fly. I really enjoyed their relationship and how it grew, they just matched each others energy and I was rooting for them from the beginning! It was very cute and the 🌶️ scenes were hot! I loved Ash knew what she wanted. The pool scene was *chefs kiss*
There wasn’t much trying to stay away from each other given the student/teacher element of the relationship. I’d have liked a bit more tension on that part but I did really enjoy it overall.
There was a twist that I actually didn’t see coming, it definitely shocked me and gave the story that added bite.
The supporting characters were great and I especially liked Cruz and It’s set up his story so well and I can’t wait to read it!
This is the first book in the Miami Inferno FC series, but it can be read as a standalone. It follows two soccer players – Rhys, a professional soccer player, and Ash, a college soccer player.
Ash is struggling and not playing well, so her coach brings in Rhys to help her practice more. Rhys is also going through some hard stuff, so helping Ash improve her skills is meant to be a distraction. Let’s just say things do not start off well. Rhys isn’t very nice, and Ash is angry at the way he’s treating her.
Of course, that doesn’t last long. They have a connection and neither can deny it. They give in to their feelings, saying it would just be one kiss. Rhys is still reeling over something that happened in his past and Ash is just trying to make her way through college.
Ash and Rhys just have a genuine connection. They had so many similarities and they understood each other. And, well…things got very spicy. Anyway, that’s not to say it was all smooth sailing. The other woman drama with Rhys’s ex? I figured it out, but it was still pretty shocking. I love how the situation was handled though. Now I’ll be waiting for the next book.
•Age Gap •Sports Romance •Opposites Attract •Forced Proximity
Let me tell you I absolutely loved this book! Inhaled it. I'm so into sports romances and getting into soccer romances recently! The second I saw that this one had age gap as well, I knew I had to read it.
I am obsessed with Rhys and Ash, the banter and just their whole relationship had me so hooked. The way Rhys treated Ash was so heartwarming. I love how sweet and possessive Rhys is.
Ash is a strong and resilient gal who holds her own. I loved that she was hyperfocused on her goals despite her relationship with Rhys! I loved how well written her character was and how she didn't come off as naïve which sometimes makes you forget there's 12 year age gap and I'm so here for it!
The twist at the end...wow I did not see that coming. I have mixed feelings about that. I am excited to read more From Katie!
Can we all be in our soccer romance era now? We are? Good. Now make this the first book you devour. 😉
Rhys & Ashlynn made me so happy. Rhys had just been ripped out of a relationship and was struggling. Ashlynn was losing focus on soccer to get focused on finishing her degree. Their respective coaches knew they each needed something the other could give. Neither knew just how much these two needed each other.
There was no chance for miscommunication here, and these two worked through the twist faster than I processed the twist. 😆 I avoid books with OW drama, but gave it a chance because I REALLY wanted to read this based on the blurb and tropes. It did not disappoint and it maybe convinced me to try a few other books with it.
I am now off to add more books by Katie to my TBR and I’m also off to find more soccer romances!
This is my first soccer romance read, and first from this author, but it won't be my last.
Rhys and Ashlynn are both exceptional athletes, who are both in need of refocus. Their connection is confrontation to begin with, and their chemistry sizzles. I enjoyed seeing each of them committed to their sport (even if it's only for the money aspect).
While I absolutely did not see the huge shocker/plot twist coming, I am glad that, by that point, their relationship was semi-stable.
This book is easy to read and enjoy. I recommend reading this one.
I didn’t know how much I needed a soccer romance!!
Oh my… So freaking obsessed!!! People might be in their hockey era… but soccer hits different… an I’m soo here for it!!! Ash is awesome…Rhys is … well he’s Rhys.. 🥵… the twists.. The story.. All of it.. I’m here for it all.. I can’t wait to read more by the author Katie Rae… she did NOT disappoint… And had def earned a fan!!!
I loved Rhyes and Ash's story! The rollercoaster of emotions that these two went through kept me glued to my Kindle until the very end. The laughs and love throughout the story were amazing, and I can't wait to continue these series!
I don't want to give anything away, but if you enjoy soccer romance, age gap, banter, and a bit of angst, then you don't want to miss out on this book!
If Katie Rae writes it... I NEED it!! Not my first Katie Rae book nor my first Katie Rae sports romance but I swear her writing continues to amaze me every single read! Reckless Goals was my first ever soccer romance and I'm hooked!
⚽️ Age Gap Romance 🔥 Forbidden Romance ⚽️ Soccer/Sports Romance 🔥 Secret Relationship ⚽️ Forced Proximity 🔥 Opposites Attract ⚽️ Possessive & Dirty Talking MMC 🔥 Strong FMC ⚽️ Friends to Lovers 🔥 Plot Twist ⚽️ The Best Spice, Angst & Tension!!
Let's get to it.... Rhys Payton is a pro-soccer player in Miami & appears to have it all, however he's coming off a terrible private breakup and though he's playing insane on the field, he's in desperate need of a distraction. This is where we meet Ash Keller, the 22 year old college senior who plays collegiate soccer and is coached by Rhys old teammate/mentor. Ash is on scholarship but doesn't have the desire she once had on the field. Her coach asks Rhys to help Ash refocus, hoping it also works as a distraction to get him out of his headspace.
"Of all people, why Rhys-freaking-Peyton?" Initially, the two are an unlikely pair, annoyed with their circumstances. However, Rhys quickly realizes just how attracted he is to Ash and OMG... their chemistry is insane!! Their banter is top notch and the tension was almost unbearable. They both have their own ideas of what their individual goals look like, but with one another's help, those goals quickly change. "In reality, like Rhys always said, goals were reckless. If all you ever did was try to reach those goals, you close yourself off to the good things than came along the way."
Rhys tells Ash he wants to kiss her "just once" to get it out of their system. There's so much there to unpack and their coach/player relationship quickly changes, and man is it steamy! Once was never going to be enough and that line in the books is a reoccurring favorite! "Just once, remember?" - "I'm a fucking liar." - "Once was never going to be enough."
Holy PLOT TWIST!!!! My jaw fell open. Looking back, was the foreshadowing there...yes, but this plot twist was so perfectly written, I screamed and I'm still not over it!! The communication these two shared was so refreshing and well written. Ash was so strong, independent and mature. Rhys fell and fell hard, he was so possessive of her all along and that was hot. Their tension was top tier, and the flow of writing moved perfectly. The growth and evolution of their relationship was mature and I couldn't love the two main characters more. The side characters though... I can't wait for Cruz's book with his STEPSISTER (seriously one of my favorite tropes!)
To say I loved this book would be an understatement. I couldn't put it down until it was finished, and I can't wait for more from the Miami Inferno series!
My Favorite Quotes: •"I almost felt sorry for poor Ash Keller. She had no idea what she was in for. But fuck, neither did I." •"Your eyes, I will never forget those gorgeous eyes." •"The heat over my body was not from the weather. Rhys just made Miami extra hot." •"Just once." •"Because come hell or high water, my new goal in life was to kiss Ash Keller. Just once." •"She was sucking my cock like she was applying for a full time job and I offered shit, like benefits, and a 401k." •"Keep saying my name, Ash. Scream it." •"You're going to make it hard to walk, much less play a soccer game." - "Good. That means every time you kick that ball, you'll be thinking of me." •"You can take whatever you wany from me. Watching you come is better than any hat trick." •"I just took a private jet from Atlanta so I could have this dance. Don't you dare stop now." •"Bad news. He may be fixed, but he broke me in the process." •"It felt like we were our own team now, and in order to score the winning goal, all we had to do was stick together and trust each other."
“We are a mess. We need to decide who's going to be the crazy one. It can’t be both of us.”
The way this man kicks Ava right in the stomach with a soccer ball two minutes after meeting her!!!! Pure evil 😍🤪🥰 But also I fully CACKLED. My guy snarks, “Coach said you need to work on paying attention,” and I knew this book was going to be a five stars read for me.
Ava is an outstanding soccer player but her heart’s not in the game. With her senior year coming to a close, she’s got way too much on her mind about what comes next. Her coach, Colin, goes out of his way to bring in a mentor for her that’ll help up her game and focus on the field in front of her, but what she doesn’t expect is for it the be the famous soccer superstar Rhys Peyton.
Rhys is feeling a little bitter and jaded after recent events with an ex and gets himself into hot water with his team after he gets into a fight on the field. To make matters worse, his old mentor reaches out to him asking for a “favor.” He’s furious when he realizes the favor is actually just him being voluntold to baby sit a moody college soccer star. She’s talented for sure, but sitting around kicking ball around with a kid isn’t how he wants to spend his days. Colin figures it’ll help keep the both of them out of trouble and Rhys isn’t in a position to decline his request. What he’s not anticipating is for her to be so hot. How is he supposed to help her focus when all HE can think about is the way her lean body is going to fit against his?
The two form an unlikely alliance. They can both keep Colin off their back by complying, and actually end up enjoying each other’s company. The two end up getting a little too close too quickly. Each time they remind themselves to keep it professional it’s like there’s a force bringing them together. Between their banter and the heated stares, the tension between them is crackling. They’ve got so many reasons to stay away from each other like their age gap and their relationship as “coach” and player. Yet there’s a crazy part of them that wonders if they could be something more, even if “more” has forbidden written all over it.
They keep telling themselves, “Just one time,” but how many times can they use that excuse?
This book had it all. Banter, love, ACTUAL COMMUNICATION HALLELUJAH, ex drama, soulmate vibes, incredible friends, cuteness overload, and an excellent plot twist! It was both predictable and blew my mind. I can honestly say I loved this book! It was my first ever read from the author and needless to say, I’m hooked. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this series! (Like bestie Cruz definitely maybe hooking up with his SISTER?!? Ahhhhh!!!! Okay…Step sister BUT STILL I’m sensing some strange vibes and I both have the ick, but am incredibly intrigued to see how it plays out.)
Huge thank you to the Author Agency for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC. I’m so happy to have a new author to look forward to!!!
This was my second book by Katie Rae and I cannot say how obsessed I am with her writing because just like with Rogue I read this in one sitting too - her writing will have you in a literal choke hold from start to finish!
Ash had lost her drive and passion for soccer, counting down the days until she graduated collage and could start working on her actual life goals but her coach had different plans. Her coach knew what Ash was truly capable of is she really tried. Rhys is a pro soccer player thats been spiraling after having his heart broken - allowing his temper to get the best of him and picking fights. Rhys has been grumpy, and impulsive, on the verge of being benched from playing. Until his mentor Colin called in a favor and asked him to help coach a player on his collage team - Ash and Rhys now found themselves being forced to work together not knowing how their lives were about to change forever. They quickly realized that they needed more from one another and the one time weakness they agreed on was looking less and less appealing. Maybe being a little reckless wasn’t so bad right?!
"You c*me four times for me last night. I have new goals for tonight." "Goals are reckless" she cried. "You said so yourself" "Trust me. I'm well aware how reckless this is"
The plot, the character development, plot twists I didn't see coming and the spice was all masterfully done! I LOVED the banter, the sexual energy between Ash and Rhys was EVERYTHING. They knew just what the other needed emotionally, physically and sexually, not only did Rhys have a deliciously dirty mouth but Ash did too and she had me BLUSHING - I was like you go girl! Get it!! He was OBSESSED with Ash and I couldn't get enough. Rhys was hot headed but also such a sweetheart when I came to her and I was literally putty at the way he took care of her and protected her. When you read this you'll know what im talking about!!
If you love age gap, forced proximity and delicious banter with amazing chemistry you will absolutely love this! I cannot recommend this enough. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!
Huge Thank you to Katie Rae for an eARC copy of this book prerelease in exchange for an honest review.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I read & I would like to read more from her, especially more from of this series. This is book 1 of the Miami Inferno FC Series but is a standalone. The book's blurb is straightforward. It's a good age gap dual pov soccer romance.
While Ash plays soccer, she doesn't dream about playing professionally & simply wants to graduate & find a stable job. Having an absent mother & being raised by her grandparents who are no longer living is what drives her desire for stability. So, when she's forced to receive extra training from Rhys to help her concentrate on soccer, she isn't happy about it but she accepts it. Under his guidance, she has that spark on the field back while off the field she begins to rely on & like Rhys for who he is. What I liked about Ash was that she wasn't shy to go after what she wanted & how she was understanding.
After having his dreams of settling down & starting a family end the way that they did, Rhys is taking his feelings out on the field. While he may be playing better depending on who is asked, it's clear that his behavior needs a change. Rhys isn't thrilled when he's asked to help Ash but he quickly discovers that spending time is just the thing that he needed. He may not be completely over what happened with his ex but Ash's company shows him things about his ex that he didn't see before. & he quickly realizes that Ash means more to him than he intended. What I liked about Rhys is how fast & hard he fell for Ash, though he didn't know it himself.
Their attraction towards each other was there right from the start but you could say their romance is a slow burn with the way it took them both to accept their feelings for each other. However, because of their chemistry & spicy moments, it won't feel that way at all. I liked the development of their relationship & the friendships that they had. Although there was some drama with his ex, it didn't overwhelm the story & the twist will shock you. Overall, this was book that was easy to stay invested throughout & it was a great start to the new series.
Rhys, a professional MLS athlete, is asked by his mentor who is the coach of the university team to come in and help one of his female soccer players (Ash) regain her focus. The connection between these two is pretty quick. You can feel the tension from their first encounter and so can that. They agree to explore that whole vibe "just once", but I bet you can figure out that rule didn't last long. ;) There is an age gap in this book, but honestly while reading it I didn't notice it unless it was specifically mentioned, which I liked. A lot of times in an age gap where the female is in her early 20's the character lacks a lot of maturity and it's blatantly obvious that there is a significant gap. That wasn't the case in this one. I think that Ash was forced to grow up earlier than expected due to her past and that caused her to be a very mature and well-rounded character.
In true Katie Rae fashion, she absolutely threw me for a loop with her twist! I didn't see it coming, but I loved every second of it! The way that Rhys & Ash handled that bombshell could've ended so badly, but I think it showed a lot of maturity on both their parts that they decided to handle it together instead of letting it break them.
It was also fun seeing our friend Levi (from The Games We Fight) again. I have missed him. ;)
I love it when I fall in love with an author's work and I can read each and every book and actually see the growth of that author's craft. Katie has been one of my go-to authors for a long time now and it's been an awesome thing to watch. I've loved each and every one of her books, and they just keep getting better and better. If you haven't read her yet, I highly recommend you pick up one of her books. She writes some of my favorite sports romances ever!
Having read Ms.Rae's work many times before I always look so forward to more from her! As soon as this book was announced it caught my eye right away. I picked it up and got right into the Miami Inferno FC world! I enjoyed this story so very much!
Rhys and Ashlynn's journey pulled me in right from the get go! Rhys is a soccer player for the Miami Inferno and dealing with a broken heart. Ash is also a soccer player and she's just trying to get through college. When Rhys is brought in to help Ash with her focus on the field, can these two ignore the feelings blooming between them? Or can taking a chance on their hearts lead to a goal they both need?
I really liked how I got right into Rhys and Ash's story and the way they were brought together. I felt for Rhys and what he went through. I so admired Ash from her strength to her dedication. I so enjoyed the interactions between these two and seeing them train together. There was realness to these two and how they were tackling things in their lives.
The chemistry and connection Rhys and Ash shared was undeniable. I didn't know how everything was going to play out for these two which got me even more into their story. They both had me grinning and feeling so much! From the soccer aspect to the feels Rhys and Ash brought, I thoroughly enjoyed their story!
It was awesome diving into the Miami Inferno FC world for the first time! I could picture it all so clearly as well.
With Reckless Goals, Ms.Rae has created a great sports romance that kept me turning the pages and brought the feels and spice! I can't wait to dive back into this world with the second installment, Scoreless Nights! 💗⚽️
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from the author*
Rhy has everything, an amazing talent that has led him to be one of the best players in the league. But lately his head doesn't seem to be in the game. No one, but a few trusted individuals, knows what is going on with him. Trying to get his head back in the game a friend asks him to help coach a local university player.
Ash is an amazing soccer player but it's not the end goal for her. It was just a way to pay for college since her grandparents, who raised her, passed before she graduated high school. With graduation looming in the distance soccer just isn't as important as it used to be. Now her coach has her being babysat by none other than Soccer Legion Rhy.
What is wrong with Rhys? Can he help Ash get her focus back? When feelings start to arise can they fight it or will "just one" of anything help them both?
Just like with ever other Katie Rae has written this story sucks you in and keeps you hostage until you flip the last page. The tension between Rhys and Ash was perfect, not too much and not too little. It spilled right off the page. I loved the forbidden aspect of the story line but what I loved the most was the no 80% breakup. Ash is portrayed as a young girl while Rhys is older, and Katie did an amazing job writing their relationship to be mature and understanding. Instead of fighting over whatever miscommunication was going on they listened to each other.
Buckle up and get ready for some spice, tension, and of course, surprises that will knock your socks off. This was the perfect book to start off a new series with because I can only imagine how amazing the other ones are going to be because this one was dang near perfect.
This is my 2nd soccer romance and I have to say reading this I’m sold on them. I love the writing of this author and I should mention that this is the first book I have read by this author. She uses great descriptive words, great grammar, and doesn’t seem to leave anything out.
I love Ashlynn. She is a headstrong woman who doesn’t take any crap from anyone. She is strong, and resilient and doesn’t want to be a professional soccer player. She is focused on school and soccer is just a means to an end for her to get to where she wants to be and that’s working with numbers.
Rhys is fresh off of heartbreak and is being rude, and annoying to everyone around her. When he is asked to help coach Ashlynn to get her head back in the game he is very angry about it but needs the distraction. I like how even though he was angry at his situation he didn’t seem to take it out on Ashlynn much LOL.
Of course the chemistry between Rhys and Ashlynn is strong and off the charts. There is a 12 year age gap between them and both of them agree to the “one time only” but we all know how that ends up. When Rhys ex shows up all hell seems to break lose. It doesn’t just effect Rhys it affects Ashlynn as well because…. You will just have to read it to find out! You will find no spoilers here.
I don’t think there was much I didn’t like about this book. And if your looking for a good Sport Romance that is pretty low on steam I for sure recommend this one to you.
After a surge of hockey romance in the last few weeks (which I’m never mad about), it was a treat to heat things up with the Miami Inferno FC! Reckless Goals is a sizzling hot start to Katie Rae’s new soccer romance series! To say I tuned out the world to let this book consume me is an understatement! Hot shot soccer star Rhys Peyton wanted it all…to play the game he loves, settle down and make a family, until his girlfriend stomped on his dreams. Now he’s broken-hearted and raging at the world; unpredictable on the field and in a constant stormcloud mood, his coach and former teammate intervene. College senior and soccer phenom Ashlynn Keller is distracted by the looming unknown of graduation. With her sights set on the future, soccer has slipped in her priorities. Knowing her potential and worried about collegiate championships, her coach seeks outside assistance to help her focus. Rhys’ zero F’s, passionate, pro athlete hotness grabbed me from page one. Ashlynn’s take-no-bs fire and brilliant wit set her apart from any other heroine of Katie’s. Her upbringing shaped her into a uniquely mature, independent woman. I was enthralled by these two from cover to cover as individuals and as their lives intertwined more intricately throughout. Ash & Rhys made me chuckle, swoon and tear up. Hot damn, Katie packed these pages with spicy spice! Grab your fans or read near your fainting couch cuz Katie didn’t hold back with Rhys’ dirty mouth and steamy moves. With twists and turns more scandalous than an episode of Maury, Reckless Goals has it all! That second epilogue had me bawling! I can’t wait for more Miami Inferno FC love stories.
⚽️Book Review⚽️ Reckless Goals By Katie Rae ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5|🌶️🌶️🌶️
I recently brought my son to his first professional soccer game and it got me thinking that I haven’t read a soccer romance. So I asked for some recs a bookstagram friend suggested Miami Inferno series by Katie Rae, and well, she never disappoints with her books recs 😂 First read by Katie and I will for sure be reading the rest of the series!!
Rhys, professional soccer player in his thirties and is going through a rough time personally after a nasty breakup! Ash, a college player there in a scholarship is unfocused on the game cause it’s not her end goal. Rhys friend and Ash’s coach decided to have him go help Ash out and get her focused. One thing leads to another and well you know how things go 😂
Their banter was so adorable and light hearted and so funny at points but also heartwarming and healing at other points! Rhys was so cocky at times and sweet at other times! I loved Ash as a FMC. She was so strong after the life she was dealt with her mom and everything.
I ate this book up! It was too good to put down! Fast paced and the spice was on point! 👌🏼🔥I could feel all the emotions in this book! Ash was healing Rhys in ways she didn’t realize. Rhys was helping ash in more ways than just focusing on soccer. He tore down her walls she built so high
That freaking plot twist. Holy shit! Definitely was not expecting his ex to be her!!
#recklessgoals is book one in the all new #miamiinfernofcseries by @katie_rae_author
Rhys: Betrayl. Soccer. HyperFocused. After his girlfriend leaves him, he’s a loose cannon. He’s reckless, grumpy and making more impulsive decisions. His friend and mentor sees a change in him and wants help with one of his players. Rhys doesn’t want to help Ash, but the more she puts up a fight the bigger challenge it becomes. He can’t deny his feeling for her even if he isn’t sure what to make of them. Can he get over his ex while under someone else and ignore possible repercussions or does Ash change something in him unknowingly the first time their eyes lock?
Ash: Soccer. Independent. Fierce. Ash has her goals laid out. She’s playing soccer for her scholarship but she is dead set on making a way for herself after graduation. Soccer isn’t her end game, but she needs it to stay at school. Getting help from her coach’s friend isn’t ideal, especially because Rhys is a popular MLS player. The more time they train together, the more she can’t deny their chemistry. Can they fight the feelings and stay friends or does their spark continue to light things on fire even with ever unexpected turn?
This book sucked me in. I really liked the vibe between Rhys and Ash. They are both athletes, stubborn in their own ways, but also determined to get the dreams they’ve wanted. They didn’t expect each other, but it worked out in the best way. I loved some of the side characters and the twist definitely caught me off guard. Excited for what’s next.
First of a new series and my first from this author (though she's been on my want to read list for a while).
Rhys is a pro soccer player who is trying to recover from a shattered heart. He's been a grumpy bear, on and off the field, and everyone has noticed. He needs a distraction to lighten him back up.
Ash is on a soccer scholarship and using the her talent in the sport to get her education and start the life she promised to live. But being so close to the finish line, her focus is on graduation, not the game. Her coach pairs her up with Rhys for some extra practice to bring her back to the here and now... and it works a little too well.
I really loved the pace of this book. The connection between Rhys and Ash was instant, though they fought it for a bit, it wasn't drawn out to the point I wanted to slap them. It was just the right amount of burn.
We get tension and drama from outside their relationship (once they decide to have one) so the twist/shoe drop for the 3rd act isn't a break up and I loved it! It's not often that I get a twist that I don't predict, but this one got me and I was really invested in what happened next.
I couldn't put it down and was reading during the day. Anyone that knows me, knows I'm primarily and audio gal, so this being unputdownable and making me want to read while the sun was up is saying something.
I requested and received an advance copy of the eBook and I'm super glad that I did.
Listen I don't think there will ever be a book that Katie writes that I don't absolutely love! I absolutely loved ever minute of this book! The push and pull. Fighting the want. Then tension is always phenomenal. The spice! Yes! 🙌🙌 All the feels! ✅️✅️ I loved that is was a soccer romance. And I loved the angle that the both played the same position. Age gap! Right up my alley! Surprise twists! Yes!! Damn that one knocked me a little off kilter and I loved it! Finally putting the pieces together at the very end of the book that Rhys' brother Levi's was in fact who I thought he was! Face palm for sure! But loved that part of it!
Rhys & Ash were goals! Pun abso-freaking-lutely intended!! He was grumpy and pissed off at the world. She's distracted but fighting to survive. They needed eachother, in a way that they didn't even know. They healed eachothers broken parts! And from that came something absolutely beautiful. Proving to eachother that love is worth it! I love how this book went from ~love is reckless to I can do anything while loving you!~
This book seriously 👨🍳💋 times a million! But then again like I said I don't expect anything different from Katie Rae! Seriously obsessed with her books! Def a must read! Can not wait for the next one!
Rhys Peyton is a professional soccer star who has recently had his heartbroken by the woman he’d planned to propose to. It’s made him angry and bitter and a bear to be around, so in order to distract him and get his mind focused on something else, he was asked to work with Ashlynn Keller. Ashlynn is a senior in college on the female soccer team who’s been distracted with studying but needs to get her head back in the game to maintain her scholarship obligations. The two find their focus alright and a whole lot more…
I’m such a big fan of Katie Rae, and romances like this one are exactly the reason! This is a sports romance with a bit of a twist I really never saw coming but sure made it interesting. I loved so much about Ashlynn. In this book, she was a young woman who had immense gratitude for the people who raised her and sacrificed for her. She had a good head on her shoulders and wanted to work towards a future where she could find security and independence. She was sassy and smart and knew what she wanted in life. Rhys was a sexy dream. He was not a player, knew he wanted a wife and kids, and commitment and I loved how he cheered Ash on. They were a sweet, fun smoking hot couple.
It was an overall great story I enjoyed very much, and I look forward to more from the Miami Inferno!
his books had twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. My poor kindle had some verbal abuse being tossed its way.
When you first meet Ryhs he is a broken man. His gf walked out on him on the night he was planning on proposing and left him in pieces. While most would think his anger was a good thing on the field, those closest to him see that he is spiralling. So he is forced to help a college soccer star, Ash, who has lost her drive for the game.
Ash felt his presence like a soccer ball to the stomach😏 and these two clash right aways. The banter between them was so good but what I loved most of all was how protective Ryhs felt of her from the beginning.
No matter what, if she needed him, he was always there. At first they fight the attraction but soon enough they give in and damn I just say they bring the heat! Damnnn
It looks like they were going to achieve the happily ever after that they were both striving for but when a blast from the past shows up in the form of his ex girlfriend.. things just implode.
What I love about this book was no matter the challenge, they faced it together. This was a great way to start the series and I’m SO curious about the other characters and can’t wait to read their stories.
Premise: Professional soccer player in his mid-30's is talked into coaching a college phenom who has lost her spark. Rhys suffered a personal set back when his girlfriend ditched him right as he was about to propose and he's taking out his frustration on the field. Ashlynn's more concerned about graduating and finding a job to provide for herself after graduation; soccer is just a means to an end for her.
OF COURSE Rhys is hot. OF COURSE Ashlynn is gorgeous. OF COURSE they're smitten with each other for all of the wrong reasons.
When they finally come together, it was as if someone poured gas on a match - they went from 0 to 100 quickly. It honestly felt like the author flipped a switch in that moment -- there had been a little sexual tension build up, but not enough for the characters to just ignite like they did. I felt like I missed something when we got there.
SPOILER: When we got near the end and found out that Rhys's ex girlfriend was Ashlynn's absent mom, I nearly threw my Kindle against the wall. Come onnnnnn. Add to the fact that she was pregnant, claiming the baby was Rhys's? That was a loop I wish would've been left out or handled a completely different way. It just felt icky.
Happy Release Week to Katie Rae! I met her at Readers Take Denver this year and she was so kind. The impression she made is 100% why I reached out to read her work. This is a PSA to be nice to all book signing nerds. Romance readers are passionate beings, make us happy and we are more likely to read your books.
I dove into Reckless Goals this week. It’s a soccer romance between a MLS soccer star and a collegiate soccer athlete. The electricity between Ash & Rhys helped bring the spice to an early start. I enjoyed getting to know both of them from their own points of view. It really helped give the story more depth. Ash is a strong woman with skill to back up her starting spot, but with only a few months left of college is starting to lose her focus. Rhys is called in as a favor to her coach to help her focus. Although he has unorthodox ways of teaching.
I thought this felt a bit like a billionaire / sports romance and I was completely here for it. Rhys could be such a romantic. There were some loose ends that I wish were tied up with a bow but I understand this is the first in the series for the Miami Inferno.
I received an advance review copy and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Rhys has been spiraling on the field after an abrupt ending to his relationship he thought was going to make his dreams of being a husband and father a reality. Ash has lost her passion for the game and would rather invest her time in a secure profession for her future. Ash’s coach, and Rhys’ friend, Colin intervenes and hopes assigning the pair to work together will get them both back to top performance.
Katie Rae delivered the most shocking twist I didn’t see coming even for a minute. The other woman drama was so much more dramatic than I had anticipated, and after it really hit I couldn’t stop.
The time between when Rhys had the plans for his future upended and falling into a relationship with Ash felt a bit rushed for me and made it a little difficult to fully invest in their relationship. The setup gave the impression of a forbidden romance for me, but while unexpected, their roles didn’t truly feel like they shouldn’t be together.

Thankful for the opportunity to read a gifted digital review copy!
Miami Inferno is the perfect name for this new series because book 1 is starting it off HOTTTT!! Katie already has several phenomenal football and baseball romances so I was super excited to see she was giving soccer a try. And boy did she score!! (heehee)
The sexual tension between Rhys and Ash ignites the instant they meet. He is possessive AF, and a little dickish, and I am here for it! Ash more than holds her own against him though, and I love a strong FMC! Their back and forth snarky comments had me rolling!
I honestly forgot about their age gap a few times. Ash is definitely not your typical college student and more than matches Rhys' own level of commitment and intensity. Not to mention their mutual inability to keep their hands off each other!
I loved the Games connection (iykyk) Katie has written some of my favorite sports romances and this is no exception. I'm excited for more of the Miami Inferno men!
Did I mention the twist? No, that's not an accurate description... Did I mention the jaw-dropping bomb of a twist?!

I am wondering about Hunter though. Any who. I am completely convinced that if a character is named Rhy I know that character will be a dirty talker, a protector, and my new book boyfriend. Katie Rae.... yes, your Rhys is being added to my list. 😍🥵🔥 Ash is a total baddy!! She was so focused so strong, and so drivine! She was an amazing Female Character. Read it!
