The Castaway—a young lady who plans a deception has a last minute change of heart; The Wooing of Lord Walford—an enterprising young lady outwits a gambling gentleman; …and a Sixpence for Her Shoe—Catherine hopes her lucky sixpence will bring an offer of marriage; Melody—a singer with the voice of an angel helps an American find his future. Four Regency Novellas by Anne Barbour; originally published in Signet collections
Anne Barbour developed an affection for the Regency period while living in England. She now lives in the Black Hills of South Dakota with her husband, a retired lieutenant colonel. She is the mother of six children, all grown, and she loves to boast of her five grandchildren.
Really they were short stories not novellas. Three of them were pretty good but the Six Pence story wss a dud. Two cranky people that had a touch of lust and a few childhood memories but no chemistry or real like for each other. But for the price the other three stories were worth it.

The stories follow the formula.....People fall in love, misunderstandings ensue then they are reconciled and there's a happy ending. I don't think, therefore, I am giving too much of the plot away when I say that I wish the first story could have had a more original twist, and that the heroine masquerading an an heiress could have persuaded the family to SUBSIDISE HER BOOKSHOP!!!
La 'misura breve' del racconto non giova alla qualità di questi quattro racconti, che in certi momenti sembrano dei film girati a doppia velocità, anche se in qualche caso l'idea di partenza è decisamente originale
Nothing outstanding in these four short stories. One of the stories was a miss for me, and the last story was my favorite.Would I read again or recommend? NO
