Stickman Odyssey #2

Stickman Odyssey, Book 2: The Wrath of Zozimos

Rate this book
Greek tragedy has never been so funny

Zozimos' journey to the kingdom of Sticatha has been anything but smooth. He's survived enslavement, battled golems and a ravenous Cyclops, and generally served as plaything to gods and goddesses looking for a good laugh. All for the sake of reclaiming the Sticathan royal throne--stolen from him by an evil witch, aka his stepmother.

You'd think that a stickman would catch a break after all that, but you'd be wrong. Arriving home only brings crazy family members and a return trip to sea, where mercenary centaurs and giant boar gods keep Zozimos questing and readers laughing. It would all be an epic tragedy if it wasn't so funny.

Zozimos is back! With his heroic buddies, a couple of princesses and some new characters, he fulfills his destiny, finds out what’s REALLY going on in Sticatha (his home city that he has sworn to free from tyranny) and falls in love. The first volume of Zozimos’ adventures (which parodize many greek myths and the Odyssey, and in which everyone is a stick figure and the gods wield pencils to create and destroy) were funny, and readers won’t be disappointed by this sequel, which I thought was even better. Action, jokes, Greek mythology, puns, gross stuff, and silly stick characters combine to make readers laugh out loud and keep turning the pages to find out what will happen. There are strong female stick characters, and readers will enjoy outguessing Zozimos (who keeps making bad choices.) A funny and charming series…and since this second volume has an open ending, there may be a third in the offing.

More of an arc than the first book, certainly, and more story flow.

This is an excellent book. I really do enjoy that the drawings are all stick figure. It gives the story that feeling of simplicity yet so intriguing. Also in my expert opinion, I think that the fighting style of this story is oddly similar to Dragon Ball Z. So in short, I very much enjoy this story and I think everyone should read the story Stickman Odyssey, Book 2: The Wrath of Zozimos > Review > Edit

This graphic novel was so funny. I love the mix of Greek myths and stick figures. My class does too, they were pushing me to finish this quickly so they could read it.

A fun little journey story describing epic myths! Would be a great way to introduce the mythology world to younger kids.

This half of the story parodies the end of the Odyssey, the Argonautica, and a few other Greek myths. It's a little better than the first half because Zozimos has matured a little bit and is less of a useless idiot (or more accurately, recognizes that he is a useless idiot and begins to grow). It's still not all that deep or memorable of a story, but it's good fun.

The Wrath of Zozimos by Christopher Ford is part to to his Stickman Odyssey series. The series is comic adopted for those who anticipate comedy from an ancient Greek epic named The Odyssey. Both the real story and this series are about a young fellow and his long quest to return back home.

The main characters in this book each are fairly different: Zozimos, a jerk and a retarded idiot, but is the protagonist; Praxis, standing double the height of the rest of the crew; Alexa, a faithful warrior who blinded herself as penance; Atrukos, the brain who thinks up the best ideas, but is never accepted; Nestor, Zozimos' uncle, the antagonist and a warmonger who plans to destroy his own city. Throughout the story, Zozimos encounters all sorts of problems some of them being monsters, liars, love, Athena, the world, and his very own uncle. Each of his friends are on a different quests, Praxis is on his way to obtain a piece of the sky, Artrukos is trying to break his curse, all while Alexa and Zozimos are trying to beat Nestor and time to save Sticatha, their home town. They band together to help each other, and after Atrokus and Praxis are fulfilled, They continue the journey to save Sticatha. After sailing to both edges of the world, the finally make their way back home, but discover they arrived just when Nestor and his army did; so now it's all out war! Eventually it all evens out into a confusing ending I still don't understand.

The thing I liked most about this booked is how the author incorporated comedy but but still told a compelling story. Many people that begin reading this book would think it is silly, which it is, but in a good way. Another thing I liked was the beginning. It totally surprised me because it did not leave off where the last book ended. I think this was a great hook. One thing I didn't like was the ending. It seemed pretty stupid that after all these years looking and protect sticatha, zozimos was just going to let Nestor kill him. I thought this was weird and confusing.

I would recommend this book to those who enjoyed Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series. Both authors used comedy with greek myths, and I find much common ground between these two series.

This is a funny, slightly twisted retelling of the well known mythological story of Odyssey, that will get even the most reluctant reader to read. Christopher Ford's humor, and stick figure illustrations make this story engaging and highly entertaining. Zozimos is back and this time around his adventures land him in Sticatha. There is finds the evil witch who killed his father is actually a beloved Queen. Krata shocks him by telling him the reason why she killed his father, and who the other person was that was behind his murder. In order to get back the kingdom that's rightful his, Zozimos has to prove his worth by traveling to find the golden feather.

Though it strays a little bit from the classical story of Odyssey that we adults grew up reading, this is still a read I think MG readers will enjoy. There's plenty of laugh out moments that will keep kids hooked and leave them waiting for more from Zozimos's adventures. I'd definitely recommend adding this book to any middle school library, classroom or in home library.

A hilarious retelling of greek mythology with stick figures that makes the story fun and accessible for children as young as 3d or 4th grade, but also great for older readers. Even better than Stickman Odyssey Book 1. I would have given it five stars, except that it's not really true to The Odyssey, though in the tradition of the Odyssey, it's a mish mash of great stories rolled up into one adventure. A curious choice for the author to make and one that might confuse kids when they encounter references to the Odyssey later, but still a great way of encouraging kids to get excited about the Odyssey and Greek mythology.

Have you ever read a book full of comedy and action just from stickmans? Zozimos wanted to have revenge because of his father assasination. But his mother tells him the other side of his father assasination and ask zozimos, his crews, and his friends to find the golden feather. So zozimos found the golden feather but his uncle nestor wants him to revive stithica again ,zozimos mother disagree and uncle nestor wants war. Then a new adventure begins and a big battle begins read the book now.I recommended people that like graphic novels and comedy.

So far my favourite book is Stickman Odyssey part 2! It is my favourite book
because it is funny and it has hilarious pictures. My favourite part was when Zozimos (the main character) found out that the girl he liked was his sister because it was surprising and the way he reacted was really funny. My favourite character is Zozimos because he is incredibly funny and he is a good fit for the book. I would recommend this book to people who like Greek mythology because there are a lot of Greek myths in this book.

Great fun. Especially for any student who's had it "Up To Here" with Greek Tragedy. Wonderfully skewers Greek mythology with a laugh-out-loud skill that rises to Mel Brooks Level. Has the best solution ever to the Lying Guard vs. Truth-telling Guard Conundrum. Definitely want to check out the author's other work after having read this. Well done!

This book flows with the first book very well, and I think that the doodles and it are even more epic than the original. Yet again, the author delivers a classic Greek tail with an awesome new retelling- stick figure style!

I would recommend this book for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade kids, or anyone who is interested in an awesome retelling of the Odyssey.

This series is just so much fun. A laugh-out-loud funny, clever, re-imagining of the Odyssey. With a quick-tempered, slow-witted stickman. What more could you ask for? Maybe "The Illiad"?
