Elise is a normal seventeen-year-old girl until the day she wakes up in a desert park, with no idea who she is.
After that episode, her life takes a bizarre turn. She’s experiencing unexpected flashes of insight into people’s lives—people she’s never met before. Strangers frighten her with warnings about the approaching Shadows. And although Elise has never had a boyfriend, she suddenly finds herself torn between two handsome but very different young men: Abe, the charming bad boy whose effect on her both seduces and frightens her, and the mysterious Harlin, who’s new to town but with whom Elise feels an urgent, elemental connection—almost as if they are soul mates.
Now Elise begins to question everything about her life. Why do these guys both want her so desperately? What are the Shadows? Why does the name Charlotte inspire a terrifying familiarity? And who is Elise, really?

If A Need So Beautiful is a look into the purity of good, than A Want So Wicked opens our eyes to the damaging effects that evil has. A Want So Wicked is from Elise's point of view (not Charlotte's,) and we learn more about Onika and her past which is definitely something I enjoyed. I loved A Need So Beautiful, but A Want So Wicked tore me up inside; there's a depth of emotion to this story that was a bit lacking in ANSB. It was heartbreaking watching Elise's life shatter and piece itself back together as she realizes who she truly is.
Elise's definitely a different character from Charlotte, but I still found myself drawn to her. Also, Harin is back and hotter than ever! I really fell in love with him a second time around. There's a new love interest named Abe who was positively charming in the beginning until I realized he was actually very creepy. There was something really off about him that I didn't quite understand. I think the most interesting part for me is the connection I saw between Elise and Charlotte. While Elise has her own personality, there were qualities about her that reminded me of Charlotte and I loved how Young combined the two girls into one cohesive character.
The story line itself was pretty similar, but still different enough to keep me interested. I loved learning more about Onika and how/why she became a shadow. There's a lot more backstory given in A Want So Wicked that helped piece a lot of things together. The plot was really unpredictable, I completely did NOT see that ending coming!!! I'm really hoping there will be another book in this series to tie things together, I can't wait to see what's going to happen to Elise and Harlin!!
If you haven't already picked up this series, I definitely recommend it. Just make sure you read A Need So Beautiful first!!! Overall, I really loved A Want So Wicked much more than A Need So Beautiful. I'm always a fan of the darker side, so getting to see that made everything much more enjoyable. The characters are as amazing as ever, and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next! Fans of angels, demons, romance, and intrigue will want to pick this one up!!
I read A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL a few months ago. And it was amazing. Filled with such themes of loss and forgetting. I couldn't wait to get my hands on A WANT SO WICKED. And now I have. And it was fricken sweet.
A WANT SO WICKED has a little more fight in it than its predecessor. There's a little bit more of the sinister in here, and the scope is wider. I was scared I was going to miss Charlotte too much, but Young creates a fantastic heroine in Elise Landon. And, Harlin's back, so no complaining.
I really recommend this series. And I'd really like to get my hands on some of Marceline's mints.
This review WILL include spoilers to A Need So Beautiful!!
Having just recently read A Need So Beautiful and loving it, the events were fresh in my mind going in to A Want So Wicked. It's not often I get to read books in a series almost back to back anymore and I remember now why I loved doing so! It really makes book 2 so much easier to fall into! That said, A Want So Wicked does not necessarily need to be read back-to-back. While there is not a lot of traditional recap, Elise has to learn about her past life, and as she does you get the glimpses and the recap from the past book that you would need.
Suzanne Young blows me away with her unique and gorgeous writing in this series. I love the way that these books completely draw me in. From the moment I picked up A Want So Wicked I did not want to put it down until I found out exactly what was going to happen to Elise. You know those times when you are telling yourself "just 10 more minutes" and the next thing you know you only have 15 pages left and it's 2 hours later? Yeah, that's how it was with me and A Want So Wicked.
I really enjoyed the way that Elise's character was different from Charlotte and yet you could still see her shining through at the same time (pun intended). Harlin was just as dreamy and swoon-worthy as always. I swear, that boy could come sweep me away on his motorcycle any day! I also ADORED Elise's Dad! He was so funny and caring, and I adored seeing a Dad that was present and reminded me of my own. There were also some characters that provided some great surprises and twists to this story and I loved every one of them!!
A Want So Wicked was a fantastic follow-up to A Need So Beautiful that had me on the edge of my seat and left me completely satisfied. I can not wait to read more by Suzanne Young. If you haven't started this series yet I don't know what's holding you back, but I suggest you get started!
3.5 stars As with its predecessor, I love all the angel stuff and I really dislike the way the romance is written. I liked the introduction of the Shadows and the subplot with Elise's sister, and I'm interested enough to keep reading. But oh, how I wish the romance was written in a less predictable, more compelling way! If the dialogue and romantic entanglements weren't so blah, and the beautiful angel stuff more deeply explored, this series could easily be one of my favorites.
What a great twist!! I loved what Young did with Charlotte's character, creating the same yet completely different heroine who struggles with the same torn feelings about being an Angel yet seems a tad more smart about the choices she needed to make. The ending was very abrupt so not really digging how it left off, but overall enjoyed the read.
After reading book one, A Need So Beautiful, I wasn't exactly sure if there was going to be a second book. Or, if there was, where it was going to go. The way the first book ended was so devastatingly bittersweet, so final, yet I was so happy to see there was more, and I couldn't wait to get my hand on the next book.
Elise is just a normal girl. At least that's what she thought until she starting have visions of a blond girl in a school girl outfit. Having memories of a past that isn't hers. Now she is left wondering what is happening to her, and what it means for her family. What if something is really wrong? What if it's fatal and she leaves her father and sister behind? What if she is losing her mind? Then she meets Abe after moving to Thistle. And then there is the mysterious guy on the Harley that she seems to be pulled to. As things begin to reveal themselves Elise learns the world isn't as it seems and she was never the girl she thought she was. Left to make an impossible choice everything comes down to the ultimate sacrifice...
I have to say that the first 50-80 pages of this book was a little slow for me. It wasn't bad, just slow and didn't hold my attention as well as I thought it should. But after that initial hump things really started to pick up and I couldn't get enough. The only other downside was that I was able to pick out the villain within the first 80 pages as well. Still I don't feel like that took anything away from the story, and the ending, particlary the last few pages, I never saw coming. But was soooooo happy it happened that way. *winks*
Elise is strong and brave. I love the way she faces everything head on, as she stumbles her way through everything she has found out about herself. Finding out that you are one of the Forgotten would be hard enough on anyone, for Elise it's even worse and she handles it in stride. I know I am being cryptic but I don't want to give anything away. Just like with the first book I adored Harlin. He is so broken after loosing Charlotte and my heart bled for him. In fact my heart broke quit a few times during this book and I'm not ashamed to say that I cried more than once.
Overall this was a great addition to the series and still a refreshing new take on angels. One that is both painful and beautiful at the same time. I can't wait for the next installment!
It’s not easy to put my love for A Want So Wicked by Suzanne Young into words. I really, really liked the first book in this series, A Need So Beautiful, but I wouldn’t say I was jumping over couches (gah that's such an old and bad reference).
But with A Want So Wicked? I picked it up and couldn’t put it down. I was SO CONFUSED for the first few bits of A Want So Wicked because uhm, if you read the summary, you’ll see why. I was like WHAT is going on who are these people WHERE IS CHARLOTTE AND HARLIN AHHH.
And it was kind of awesome that A Want So Wicked made me feel so passionately confused and I just...I want to fangirl over A Want So Wicked. I loved the new characters, Elise, Lucy, and their pastor father, and even Abe. Of course, I loved the characters from A Need So Beautiful who made unexpected appearances in this one.
My only complaint - I wanted to see and understand more about Harlin, what he was thinking at this point. I understand why we (readers and the protagonist) weren’t as close to him in A Want So Wicked as we had been in A Need So Beautiful, but it made me all kinds of sad.
Uhm. Also. The ending. Just another reason why I loved it more than A Need So Beautiful. I know as of right now there is no third book, but I need to know what happens after, please and thank you!
A Want So Wicked by Suzanne Young was everything I wanted the sequel to be - heartbreaking, confusing, giggle-causing, and left me very, very content. If you haven’t read this series, do so. Immediately.
This...was better than I expected. It wasn't super good, but definitely better than A Need So Beautiful.
I have always loved this concept. Of certain angels on Earth having the need to help people. And this need of theirs turning them into a huge light thingymabober.
As usual, there was just too much romance, and not enough angel stuff. Seriously, nothing about angels came in until I was halfway through the book, and even there, it wasn't heavy on that.
Sure, the two guys were pretty awesome, but this is an angel book, not a romance book. I'll admit that I like romance, but I loved the concept so much, and unfortunately, didn't get much of it.
Something else I didn't like was the predictability. I guessed about who Abe was. I guessed who Elise was. I guessed who messed with Harlin. In fact, it was kind of obvious.
Like A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL, I've watched this book evolve. As much as I love the main character in NEED, I love the main character in WANT even more. It's tough talking about this without giving anything away, but I love how Suzanne Young explores the darkness that threatened the light in the first book. The new characters were great and the ending so completely satisfying.
this book is much more appealing than the first one , Elise character is so good and though I am team Abe I have no problems with Harlin unlike the first book, still don't if there will be a third book
After reading A Need so Beautiful, I was really eager to see what would happen next after the whole cliffhanger that we were left on. A Want so Wicked explores the world of the Need a little more and adds a whole new dimension.
I would have loved to say that A Want so Wicked was not so obvious and easily predictable. Unfortunately, things just don't always go my way in the world of YA paranormal. Not only did I know what was going to happen as each page flipped by, I knew everything just by reading the blurb. The ridiculousness of this was totally uncalled for, but I still loved it.
My main issue with A Want so Wicked was with the predictability and whatnots, but otherwise I really enjoyed it. The plot was fast-paced, making the book not unbearably obvious, but more of a cheesy paranormal read that was adorably romantic and sweet at certain moments and heartbreakingly dark and shocking in others.
Elise, the protagonist, has a few marbles missing when it comes to her memory. It was fascinating to revisit the world of the Need with someone who wasn't necessarily as irritated with her destiny like Charlotte was in the other book. As Elise gains more knowledge on the destinies she will have to choose between, I was biting my fingernails in anticipation of the climatic battle that she will face. Of course I knew that the battle would happen, and the end result of it, but I just couldn't help but feel some empathy for Elise and want to cheer her on.
The whole love triangle mentioned in the blurb between Elise, Abe and Harlin is obviously screwed up. Elise and Abe will have some chemistry; however, Abe will have a more "I want to eat you" kind of allure that Elise finds herself attracted to. How, I am not sure on, but it was an extremely dynamic and creepy relationship between those two. Meanwhile, the Elise plus Harlin pairing was so insta-love, it was borderline disturbing. There is an explanation behind this whole mess and yes, it makes complete sense. Still, I just couldn't fall for it easily. Too much of their moments together felt choreographed and unnatural when you compare it to the chemistry between Charlotte and Harlin. I felt that the author tried to replicate the dynamic pairing of A Need so Beautiful, but didn't do a great job of it.
Overall, A Want so Wicked was a fantastic sequel for A Need so Beautiful, but fell a little too into the stereotypes of paranormal and wasn't as electrifying when it came to the romance. Otherwise, I enjoyed its fast pace and the dark world that it inhabited.
A Want so Wicked is the second book in A Need So Beautiful Series by Suzanne Young. The opening program shows us a girl who wakes up and has no idea who she is, through her POV she finds herself in a dry desert and finds a mirror-like surface that shows her at once being blonde-a face she recognizes then a brunette, not so recognizable and then the blonde again and finally settling on the brunette. She walks on and that’s the end of the prologue. To me it was self-explanatory, it was Charlotte from A Need So Beautiful or at least that’s how I wanted to interpret it!
This brings us to the story of Elise, her older sister Lucy and their father who’s a Pastor. Their relationship is fantastic and often a hoot, especially with Lucy who loves to tease her father about boys and dates, feminine monthlies etc… Elise starts to notice strange things, shadows at the scenes of accidents that nobody else can see along with the fact that she feels the need to help at accidents and emergencies but not compelled, per se. Elise is also having bizarre flash backs involving a blonde haired girl, feelings of recognition and then she meets the local psychic who at first scares the crap outta her but then she realizes she needs to visit her where she tells her stories of the Forgotten and the Shadows and that Elise is caught smack dab in the middle of it-only has a special mission...a role to play in it all.
To top it off, she has two guys in her life-the first guy is Abe who she meets at the restaurant she works at. He’s a bit snarky, suave and way to good looking for his or her own good. Then there’s Harlin, the very definition of hotness-rides in on his Harley to save the day and Elise is torn between the two.
Elise learns all too quickly about shadows and with the help from old friends from her past, she can see now what her part is between the Shadows and the Forgottens.
Suzanne Young had me at A Need So Beautiful but she really got me at A Want So Wicked. Her unique twist on a different genre makes this series so unforgettable and so hard to put down. Suzanne’s character portrayals are so emotional and entertaining at the same time. A Want So Wicked is the literary version of the best bath scrub n’ bubbles in the world; A Want So Wicked---Take me Away!
THE FAERY SAYS THAT A WANT SO WICKED BY SUZANNE YOUNG MAKE MY WINGS GO A’FLUTTER!
A Want So Wicked was one of my most anticipated reads of 2012. I fell so completely in love with the story and characters in A Need So Beautiful that I was antsy to find out what would happen next, especially with the killer ending in the first book! Words cannot express the joy I had when I won an ARC copy! I jumped right in and fell in love all over again!
This is the story of a girl named Elise. Strange things start to happen to her, while awake and in her dreams. She sees flashes of another's life and finds herself drawn to helping strangers. Fearing something is wrong with her, she seeks out the help of a local pyschic and finds out she is a part of a world of the Forgotten and Shadows. If things weren't complicated enough, she suddenly seems to be having boy troubles. Abe is a coworker who comes off strong, making his intentions known from the get go. It is hard to focus on Abe though, when a cute guy on a motorcycle heads into town...
Where the first book focuses more on the Forgotten and the NEED, A Want So Wicked gives us a chance to explore the darker side of the Forgotten, those living in the Shadows. It is a terrible sacrifice to give up your life to save people, but is it worth it to stay and live a cursed life? We are given a chance to consider what it is like to make this decision a little more thoroughly this time around.
I found myself loving Elise as much as I loved Charlotte in A Need So Beautiful. She is such a selfless and amazing character. I really enjoyed the family dynamic between her, her father and her sister Lucy. They are extremely close and I laughed out loud a few times when the girls would share details of their love lives with their Pastor father. I have so much I would love to say about the boys but I do not want to give away too much. Let's just say Harlin still makes me swoon with his love and Abe creeped me out.
If you were a fan of A Need So Beautiful, you will not be disappointed with its sequel! It has all the appeal of the first plus it is a little more dark and WICKED!
A Need So Beautiful was one of my favorite books of 2011. A Want So Wicked is definitely going to be on my list of favorites for 2012. I am in awe of Suzanne Young's talent and I can't wait to see what she does next.
The story is a bit confusing in the beginning. Things are going on with Elise that she can't quite figure out and to be honest, neither could I. Things all went back to Charlotte, the Needs, and Onika but the reader was definitely kept guessing through most of the book. There were so many twists and surprises. With all that you don't know and want to find out this book is nearly impossible to put down.
Elise is a lot like Charlotte. She is kind, brave, funny, smart, and oh, extremely attracted to Harlin (for reasons she can't explain at first.) Elise is most like Charlotte in the fact that you can't help but cheer for her. It's impossible not to want this girl to triumph over evil and get her happy ending. Then there are the boys; Harlin and Abe. Harlin is just as amazing as he was in A Need So Beautiful. He is actually better because he has grown in his time without Charlotte. Abe is a bit of a mystery. He is very clearly a bad boy but you can't help but like him. He has his moments. As for Elise's family, Lucy and her dad, they were great. Lucy had secrets of her own but her love for Elise always showed. Their dad may have had to work a lot but he was always there for them. He was a great parent.
The romance in this book has to be one of my favorite things. It is intense and steamy and sexy and just so real. It is not insta-love and you can actually see the attraction between the characters growing into something so much bigger. Suzanne Young has a gift for romance.
Overall, A Want So Wicked is the best possible follow-up to A Need So Beautiful that readers could have asked for. It may have actually been better than the first!
The incredibly written A Want So Wicked (sequel to A Need So Beautiful) by Suzanne Young is the remarkable story of new Forgotten, Elise. Although much of the same characters return, the book’s main focus is on Elise and her efforts to realize who she really is and how it will affect the people around her. The Shadows are up to their old evil ways again and present new ones in the process. The collection of established characters readers have come to love, along with new faces delivered a story that will surely keep interest levels at its peak.
In A Need So Beautiful, readers are introduced to Charlotte who many were immediately attached to. However, Elise is just as easily likable. Suzanne’s character development is stunningly unique. She certainly knows how to create such engaging characters that readers cannot help but be drawn in by her mesmerizing writing style.
The paranormal aspect of this book in quite interesting. Once Elise begins having visions, it really gets exciting. The Shadows are brilliantly elucidated and the connection with the first book is done right. Readers will run into two romances but it will never play out as a love triangle. With Suzanne’s brilliant writing prose, Elise felt genuine and readers really get to know her inside and out.
The last pages come to a satisfying end. This incredible story is filled with many unforgettable characters that readers will mark this book as wholly memorable. The ride that Suzanne puts her readers on is simply beautiful, mystifying, and amazing. A Want So Wicked is the perfect follow up and I, like so many readers, would love to see a third book.
A Want So Wicked was the other book that I had won along with Thumped that I had to first check out the first book in the library. It also, along with so many other books it seems this way, trumps the first book by a landside.
We once again find ourselves alongside a Forgotten. This time around, however, the stakes are much higher and the story and fight more complicated. The idea of Shadows are explored in more detail, especially Onika and it really works to give her a more well rounded character. Once again I enjoy the characters and the poetic prose style (though I do admit I can get tired of the poetic style after a while).
As much as I enjoyed reading this (which was a lot) I do wonder about Charlotte/Elise as a character at times because she is so self-sacrificing. I can't decide if it feels too goody-two-shoes or still works as a character. The book is also very good vs. evil, but at the same time I feel like this book goes a bit grayer. Something I do like though, is how Young approaches the idea of angels and good versus evil without connecting it to any specific religion, just the thought of being good. Sure, Elise's father is a pastor, but Elise doesn't come off as very religious herself, and when Forgotten are explained, it is in more of a Spiritual way and not Christian way, so there is a bit of balance.
Overall: One of my major gripes with sequels is that they aren’t stand-alone novels. A Want so Wicked can be read and enjoyed by itself, though I heavily recommend you check out its amazing predecsessor, A Need So Beautiful.
Characters: I had more trouble connecting with Harlin in this book than in the first book. The reasoning for him being so distant is explained at the end of the story, but it doesn’t make sense and really killed his character for me. I wasn’t feeling his commitment towards Charlotte/Elise. I also got annoyed with Elise with how she ignored her sister, because Elise was so self-centered in this novel. Charlotte gave everything she could to show her friends and family how much they meant, while Elise kind of shut everyone away to be with some guy. I originally liked Abe’s character but by the end he became nothing short of pathetic. I wish he had at least one redeeming quality.
Plot: This book has the same basic plot as A Need So Beautiful, only with more sub-plots and characters. It’s darker and the history of the Forgotten and Seers is more fleshed out with this book.
Ending: The twist involving Elise’s sister shocked me. I totally did not expect any of that to happen. Elise’s choice also surprised me, but I felt like it was for the best. I really hope that the author continues this series, since there is so much more that could be explained and revealed about this world.
This book, before yesterday, had been for quite a long time in my to-read list. And, to be honest, if it weren't for the fact that my iPod is absolutely refusing to upload new books, it would have stayed there a while longer. I read the first book quite a while ago, but I remembered it had quite an unique take on angels. I can't make comments about the plot of that book, as I don't remember the details of it.
The plot of this second book is not exactly compelling. There is a twist towards the end, but even that was quite predictable. To be blunt, I'd say that Elise was the only one who didn't figure out who the bad guy was before he revealed himself. To be honest, I found the whole plot to be quite predictable.
This book is also the final book in the series. There is a novella set after that, but I don't think I'll be reading it. In truth, I was expecting this to be a trilogy, but it seems that won't happen. Which is quite disappointing, as I'm not really satisfied with the ending. I didn't feel like I got closure, and that's a feeling I don't like. I'm not giving up on the author, as I have another book written by her in my to-read list. It's in a very different genre (while this one is firmly in the paranormal genre, the other one, The Program, is a dystopia).
To sum it up, this was an okay read. I liked the different tack on angels. Other than that, I can't say that anything really stands out in this book.
A WANT SO WICKED is a well-thought out and deliciously addictive sequel to A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL. I didn't think I could love a second book just as much, maybe even more, than its predecessor but Suzanne Young proved me wrong with this one. If you haven't read anything by this unpredictable and AMAZING author, you are sure missing out!
Elise is a shy and sweet girl who loves her family. She is so pure in spirit and will definitely get into every readers heart. There isn't any doubt that her soul is Charlotte's from the beginning and I wanted so badly for her to find out about what she was and about her past life, specifically the yummy Harlin. I loved every moment reading from her perspective! She isn't stupid and trusts her instincts, no matter what they tell her. She's my kind of girl!
Suzanne Young is a genius in the guy department. She knows how to weave a sexy guy into a story no matter the circumstances! In this case, there are two delicious specimens, Abe and my personal favorite, Harlin. I so missed Harlin after finishing A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL and I got my fix of him in this one, that's for sure. Harlin will always hold a special place among my favorite guys of YA.
I wasn't sure what to expect at all with A WANT SO WICKED but I came out feeling oh-so satisfied. If you were a fan of A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL, this one won't disappoint.
4.5 This was a great sequel to A Need so beautiful and i enjoyed it more than the first. It starts off with Charlotte waking up in the body of Elise and not having any recollection of her previous life. However, througout the book, she starts having flashbacks and her Need also returns. Elise is a likeable character, still i wish that in certain situation she had been a bit stronger and kicked some ass.
Harlin aslo returns and i liked him better this time round. He is still really cute and you can see that he instantly has a connection with Elise, even though they dont recognise each other. I felt a bit bad for him because i could see that he really missed Charlotte, but he was still fallig in love with Elise. A new character is this is Abe. He is charming and hot and i initially really liked him and thought he was good competition for Harlin. However, throughout the book, my feelings for him kept changing. Overall, the characters in this book were well written and developed and i especially, really liked Elise's dad. I thought he was really sweet.
The plot was enjoyable and moved at a steady pace. I liked it better than the first because there was more going on in this one. Overall, it was a satisfying sequel and fans of this series will really like it.
I remembered liking the first book in this series, but I couldn't remember why. And when I tried to look back and read reviews, I couldn't find any spoilers (for once!) So I went in with a pretty blank idea of what was going on. But I soon caught on and kinda remembered what happened. And I enjoyed this next book too.
I enjoyed Elise. But I thought that her relationship with Harlin was a little weird. Her feels came on way too quickly. I mean I got why they did, but she didn't know at the time why she was so drawn to him, but she was perfectly okay being so attracted to a guy so quickly, even though she had never had a boyfriend before. It was just a little weird. And oooh...Abe was just creepy. The way that her first kiss was described with him was creepy!
There was a sort of surprise at the end (or at least I think it was) but I saw it coming the whole time. And that part was sad. It made me a little teary ( I don't want to give too much away, so you'll just have to know that there was a sad part!).
If you have not read the first book, you should! This series just keeps getting better and better!
What I enjoyed about this book is Elise finding out about her old life. The mystery of who she is, attaches itself to the reader. You can't help but keep reader until you find out! And let me tell you that the secret is so worth it.
The search for answers is one ride I loved being on.
The love interest in the book completely took me off guard. I thought one thing about the guy but totally not so! I like that the author had me so invested in the characters that I couldn't even look at him that way. Even after, I am still swooning over him. Elise does indeed find out who she should be with and it pure joy!
I totally enjoyed just being on the adventure of figuring out her past, who she really loved and who she is. This part captures the reader like no other.
A Want So Wicked is simply divine! Carefully structured so that no reader can resist, A Want So Wicked draws the reader deeper into the story. Hauntingly beautiful, A Want So Wicked is enticing!
I was lucky enough to get my hands on an ARC of A Want So Wicked. I instantly fell in love with Harlin in the first book and I thought I couldn't love him any more than I already did. I was wrong. He was just so heart broken from the first book and yet stayed so loyal to Charlotte trying to not forget her as everyone else had around him.
The main female character, Elise is so strong and selfless that you can't help but adore her. Her relationship with her sister and father is one that had me cracking up throughout the book with the banter. Giving their pastor father a hard time whenever they could.
I loved the relationships in this book and enjoyed getting to know more about the Forgotten and characters from the first book such as Monroe, Onika and Harlin. The ending just left me wanting more and after talking with Suzanne about if a third book would come to be, it would be about the Seers ( so more Harlin) I've been hoping and praying that this happens.
I enjoyed A WANT SO WICKED significantly better than A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL. The first half would've gotten 4 stars by itself, but unfortunately things didn't hold together through the end. (Basically it started to feel rushed.)
I think what made the book work most of all was having a “strong” heroine. Elise wasn't always the main driver of the story, but her reactions to things were realistic, and I found myself pleased with the way that she thought for herself, even around people/situations that were more powerful than she was. Also, her relationship with her father was well-done and refreshing compared to most YA. And Abraham was a very compelling character. His evolution over the course of the book was wonderfully subtle.
But as I said, the story and writing faltered towards the end. (The insta-love bothered me too, even though it was somewhat justified.) In all it was a good read, it just had the potential to be even better.
If I was emotionally touched in "A Need So Beautiful," this second installment ripped my heart out. Could you imagine leaving your loved ones over and over for greater cause just to save humanity? How could you withstand it? Well, this book showed the power of true love and sacrifice. There was a moral lesson in this book, which we could apply in our daily lives (i.e. You could exercise your free will but be wise doing so. The choices you make now are the foundation of your life in the future).
Suzanne Young left the ending open. She could continue the story of Elise and Harlin, or left it as it was. If the author ever write a 3rd installment, I hope she strengthens the character of Harlin as in "a badass protector" of Elise and the Forgotten from the Shadow.
Well I loved Harlin, Abe was just freaky. This was not as good as the first book unfortunately. Those were high standards to live up to. I found Elise to be much weaker than Charlotte. She didn't have to go through as much as Charlotte did and the book was a really fast read. Harlin was just as amazing and I am heartbroken that he had to go through what happened at the end of the book. Theres not much I can say about this book. There was a lot of unfinished business. I felt incomplete when the book ended. I hope theres a book to tie up the loose ends
A wonderful follow-up to A Need So Beautiful, which I also greatly enjoyed. This sequel explores new territory and has a satisfying ending (though I'd LOVE to read a third book), while keeping the important elements from the first book (um, HARLIN!). A lovely exploration of emotional high stakes with writing that evokes such depth of feeling.
It took all of my strengthen not to cry at the end of this book! Here I am sitting at work, my eyes filling with tears and I kept having to stop reading and compose myself! UGH! haha I loved this book! Loved the series so much! Harlin is so heartbreaking and I just love him! Suzanne! I need a third book! Do you hear me? You NEEEEED (get it?) to write a third book!
