A culinary tour describes how loyal Grateful Dead fans have earned money on the road by preparing and selling vegetarian food from the backs of their vehicles and presents a variety of healthy, parking-lot delicacies. Original.
Despite the sloppy editing and the vague directions, this is my favorite cookbook. It seems to be the best cookbook that I found for the way that I shop.
The recipes tend to be mere outlines or general instructions for cooking stuff and the recipe authors leave out steps.
Despite all the irritating snafus,it is my favorite cookbook. The authors seldom require expensive or exotic ingredients. Recipes are easily adapted and thrown together.
I have several favorites from this book, but my absolute favorite is the Vegan Veggie Curry.
I also get a kick out of reading the spacy hippie biographical information on each dead-head/chef.
The egg roll recipe is the bomb! I also like the grain spiral but have never tried it. A number of vegans were on the road with The Dead during the late 1980’s early 1990’s, and so this book’s usefulness for those seeking vegan dishes that adapt well to travel, crowds or are unique to that culture. Great time capsule, it is now a collectors’ item. Wish Zipern would release a Kindle version and will she ever write another book?
