I had the pleasure of knowing Finis and Emma Mitchell. First met them in the early 80s.

One of my most treasured possessions is a copy of this book, which they both signed.

Though the book is 50 years old now, it's still useful. There are a few off-trail lakes that
Finis told me about (not in the book) that he stocked with fish. But those will remain my secret for now.

BTW, the name is pronounced like "finest," without the 't'

I have read this numeorus times, and carried it through the Windrivers with me. It's perfect for getting in the mood for experiencing the area, and when reading it, one seems to channel Finis.

Great history and interesting to read right before my own backpacking trip to the Wind River. Short and sweet, pick it up if you enjoy the outdoors.
