A fifteen-year-old girl is powerfully drawn into the unfamiliar world of the Scottish aristocracy where she will discover corruption and violence behind the illusion of giltter and prosperity.
For those who like British fiction, drama, satire and intrigue--this is the book for you! Set in England and Scotland, the story is told by Lucy Diamond, who learns about "other people's rules" when she is invited to stay with her school friend, Sarah. The arrogance of Sarah's family and others like it is interwoven with politics, sexual improprieties and murder.
I struggled to finish this book - the first half was good when the girls were teenagers, but in the second half which is years later, I found I couldn't relate to any off them well. The ending was very unsatisfactory also.
It's a weird book when you start it and it goes painfully slow but then the story which is a thriller develops and it leaves you there, hanging by the thread waiting to see what's exactly happening .... AND it can get a bit disappointing the end part :-((( BUT it remains an enjoyable read!
